Dermaphoria by Craig Clevenger Pdf

Bailed out of jail and holed up in a low-rent motel, amnesiac Eric Ashworth has only the memory of a woman's name: Desiree. With steadily increasing doses of a strange new hallucinogen, Ashworth finds that the drug allows him to reassemble his past in broken fragments. But as he begins to lose touch with the present, his distinction between truth and fantasy begins to crumble, creating a world where divisions between love and loss, violence and tenderness, and fact and fiction are less discernible than they ought to be.

The Caldwell Objects and How to Observe Them by Martin Mobberley Pdf

When Mike Inglis, who consults for Springer, ? rst asked me to write a Caldwell book in their “and How to Observe Them” series I admit I did need some time to think the suggestion over. I am a fan of Patrick’s Caldwell catalog as are most of the amateur astronomers I know, but could a new book be justi? ed when the massive, compreh- sive, and wrist-spraining Caldwell tome by Stephen O’Meara covers the subject fully anyway? That other book was researched and written over a 5-year period in the pre-9/11 world from 1996 to 2001, and its 484 pages of descriptive text and background data are a joy to peruse, as are Stephen’s impressive sketches. OK, the book is far too heavy for the binding and after a few trips outside half the pages in my copy fell out, but apart from that it is an excellent book and surely impossible to improve upon, or even equal, especially in a smaller format book with only half the pages available; at least, that was my initial impression when I mulled over writing another Caldwell book. However, I changed my mind, because a number of events of astronomical signi? cance have occurred in the last 10 years. First and foremost backyard imaging of deep sky objects, especially color im- ing, has come on in leaps and bounds in the twenty-? rst century.

Love Cures by Laine E. Doggett Pdf

What is love? Popular culture bombards us with notions of the intoxicating capacities of love or of beguiling women who can bewitch or heal—to the point that it is easy to believe that such images are timeless and universal. Not so, argues Laine Doggett in Love Cures. Aspects of love that are expressed in popular music—such as “love is a drug,” “sexual healing,” and “love potion number nine”—trace deep roots to Old French romance of the high Middle Ages. A young woman heals a poisoned knight. A mother prepares a love potion for a daughter who will marry a stranger in a faraway land. How can readers interpret such events? In contrast to scholars who have dismissed these women as fantasy figures or labeled them “witches,” Doggett looks at them in the light of medical and magical practices of the high Middle Ages. Love Cures argues that these practitioners, as represented in romance, have shaped modern notions of love. Love Cures seeks to engage scholars of love, marriage, and magic in disciplines as diverse as literature, history, anthropology, and philosophy.

The School of Night by Louis Bayard Pdf

An ancient mystery, a lost letter, and a timeless love unleash a long-buried web of intrigue that spans four centuries In the late sixteenth century, five brilliant scholars gather under the cloak of darkness to discuss God, politics, astronomy, and the black arts. Known as the School of Night, they meet in secret to avoid the wrath of Queen Elizabeth. But one of the men, Thomas Harriot, has secrets of his own, secrets he shares with one person only: the servant woman he loves. In modern-day Washington, D.C., disgraced Elizabethan scholar Henry Cavendish has been hired by the ruthless antiquities collector Bernard Styles to find a missing letter. The letter dates from the 1600s and was stolen by Henry's close friend, Alonzo Wax. Now Wax is dead and Styles wants the letter back. But the letter is an object of interest to others, too. It may be the clue to a hidden treasure; it may contain the long-sought formula for alchemy; it most certainly will prove the existence of the group of men whom Shakespeare dubbed the School of Night but about whom little is known. Joining Henry in his search for the letter is Clarissa Dale, a mysterious woman who suffers from visions that only Henry can understand. In short order, Henry finds himself stumbling through a secretive world of ancient perils, caught up in a deadly plot, and ensnared in the tragic legacy of a forgotten genius.

Lyrics of Love and Life by William D. Sacshe Pdf

This book is my heart. It is my legacy for my children and their children. It is for the heart of the child in all of us that we encase with armor as we age and face the world. By the grace of God, from whom all miracles and blessings flow, may these words inspire you and help you smile as these ladies have inspired me: Paula, Sandra, and Cindy, for your belief in me; Joyce, for all your good works and beautiful smile; Celine, for your songs and truest heart; and Marlo, for being an angel of mercy for so many! May God bless and keep you all, amen.

The Sidelines of Time by Peter Siviglia Pdf

Peter Siviglia is a successful lawyer, possibly leaving readers wondering how he could be good at writing poetry. Well, during a career spanning more than half a century, he became an expert at observation, and through his observations of people and every-day life, he has produced a collection that sees through the veil of things we hide, penetrating the heart of humanity itself. The Sidelines of Time has three parts: Poetry, Recipes from the Top of the Food Chain, and Poetic Justice. Part I touches upon those questions that haunt each of us. Siviglia has the unique ability, without fear or pretense, to say a great deal using few words, stunning imagery, sound, and engaging observations. Part II comprises learning gleaned during that career of more than fifty years. Artfully honed aphorisms, hailed by James Geary, a best-selling author on the subject, teach what is most important in life and in work. In Part III, the author becomes a player in a rough, darkly humorous exchange with a banker, jousting in the midst of a failed construction project. What does this lawyer have to offer us? Plenty.
