Amateur Radio HF Antennas by Claude Jollet,VE2DPE Pdf

The contents of this book are mostly aimed at the amateur radio beginner and aspiring ones. Therefore, this book provides answers to basic questions like: What is the best HF antenna for my needs and location? What type of stand-alone antenna tuner should I use and which should I avoid? How can I hide my HF antenna from the neighbors and still get acceptable performance from it? What about lightning protection? This book will supply immediately useful answers to the above questions and many more. A properly designed and installed amateur radio HF antenna system can potentially make the humblest ham radio equipment perform like stations worth thousands of dollars. We are confident that the antenna experimenter will find the information given here priceless. Furthermore, any ham radio operator, armed with the information this book contains, will become a much better informed buyer of commercially made HF antenna systems and accessories. This special compendium edition is published in response to ham radio operators who wrote to ask that all the basic information, on and related to amateur radio HF antennas, be made available in one book instead of four, arguing that it would be more convenient. The author and publisher agree. Therefore this edition contains the complete four-book series on Amateur Radio HF Antennas published by Claude Jollet, VE2DPE.

Practical Antenna Handbook 5/e by Joseph Carr,George Hippisley Pdf

THE DEFINITIVE ANTENNA REFERENCE--FULLY REVISED AND EXPANDED! Design and build your own antennas with the help of this unique guide. Updated and revised to provide clear answers to questions frequently asked by hobbyists and electronics technicians, Practical Antenna Handbook, Fifth Edition blends theoretical concepts with hands-on experience--requiring only high school mathematics Reorganized to flow logically from broad physical principles to specific antenna design and construction techniques, the book begins by covering the fundamentals. Then the half-wave dipole is discussed both as an excellent antenna in its own right and as a conceptual tool for predicting the performance of other designs. Transmission line impedance matching techniques--and a companion Smith chart tutorial--lead into "must have" accessories for tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting antenna system performance. Other tools, such as antenna modeling software and network analyzer add-ons for PCs and Macs, are addressed, and concluding chapters offer fresh insights into support structures and installation techniques. NEW TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE: Characteristics of all-driven and parasitic arrays Beverages and small MF/HF receiving loops Top-loaded shunt-fed towers and other verticals Theory and design of Yagi beams Effect of real ground on propagation and antenna patterns, impedance, and efficiency Lightning protection and four kinds of ground systems Zoning and restrictive covenants COVERS A WIDE VARIETY OF ANTENNAS: Dipoles and inverted-Vs Quads, delta, and NVIS loops Wire arrays (bobtail curtain, half-square, rhombic) Verticals and shunt-fed towers Rotatable Yagi beams MF/HF receiving antennas (flag, pennant, K9AY, Beverage) Mobile and portable antennas VHF/UHF/microwave antennas And many more GO TO WWW.MHPROFESSIONAL.COM/CARR5 FOR: * Tables of worldwide geographic coordinates and antenna dimensions vs. frequency * Supplier updates * Author's blog * Additional photographs and schematics * Links to tutorials and specialized calculators

Radio History by Spurgeon G. "Spud" Roscoe VE1BC Pdf

In this sweeping history, author Spurgeon G. Roscoe takes a look at the world of amateur radio in North America and the special role the Halifax Amateur Radio Club (HARC), of which he is a member, played in it, from the time of the World Wars all the way to the present day. Roscoe presents an account that is at once intimate and wide-ranging, covering topics from amateur radio’s role on the Canadian ships of the 1920s and ’30s and during wartime to the involvement of women in the craft, to the technical details of how some of the equipment involved has evolved over time, to a detailed look at the American Radio Relay League and what has appeared in the pages of its membership journal, QST, over its many years in circulation. His own deep, nearly lifelong involvement in amateur radio not only brings a deep base of knowledge to this ambitious project, but a particularly penetrating and oftentimes sentimental lens to it, too—particularly when it comes to documenting the activities of HARC and the many members who have passed in and out of it over the years. Expansive and detailed at once, Radio History: Amateur Radio is essential reading for anyone involved or interested in the hobby worldwide.

Shooting Down the Stealth Fighter by Mihajlo S. Mijajlovic,Djordje S. Anicic Pdf

A look at the takedown of the presumably invulnerable aircraft during the Kosovo War, featuring perspectives on both sides, plus technical details. With its futuristic and unmistakable design, the Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk, the so-called “Stealth Fighter,” was the wonder of the age. Virtually undetectable by radar, this ground-attack aircraft could slip unseen through enemy defenses to deliver its deadly payload on unsuspecting targets. Its effectiveness had been well demonstrated during the Gulf War of 1991, during which the F-117A achieved almost legendary status. But, at 20.42 hours on 27 March 1999, the military and aviation worlds were stunned when the impossible happened—a virtually obsolete Soviet-built surface-to-air missile system which had first been developed more than thirty years earlier, detected and shot down an F-117A, callsign “Vega 31.” This incident took place during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. It was, and remains, at least officially, the only time that a stealth aircraft was detected and shot down by a ground-based missile system. In this book, the authors, both of whom served in the Kosovo War, take the reader through every moment of that astounding event, from both the perspective of Lieutenant Colonel Dani’s 3rd Battalion, 250th Air Defense Missile Brigade, a Yugolsav Army unit, and that of the pilot of the F-117A, Lieutenant Colonel Darrell Patrick Zelko, who ejected and survived the loss of his aircraft. The reader is placed in the cabin of the missile fire control center and alongside “Dale” Zelko in the cockpit of his stealth fighter as each second dramatically unfolds. Stealth characteristics are now regarded as a standard part of modern military aircraft design but with each generation of aircraft becoming increasingly, almost cripplingly, expensive to produce and operate compared with the simpler surface-to-air defense systems, the outcome of the battle between missile and stealth hangs in the balance. That this is the case might be seen in the strange fact that it is claimed that two other F-117As did not return to the U.S. at the end of the Kosovo War, though, mysteriously, their fate has never been revealed. Were they too victims of Yugoslav missiles? Though intended for the general reader, Shooting Down the Stealth Fighter covers the technical details of the weapons involved and their deployment—and the authors should know, as one of them, Djordje Anicic, was a member of the Yugoslav team which brought down Zelko’s aircraft.
