Stick Your Neck Out by John Graham Pdf

As President of the Giraffe Heroes Project, which since 1982 has been recognizing people who ''stick their necks out for the common good,'' John Graham has seen what hundreds of average citizens around the world have done to bring about constructive change. He's drawn on their experiences, his own as a veteran environmental activist, and that of a hand-picked group of seasoned activists to produce an accessible, eminently practical, inspiring guide on how to work effectively for change in any environment. Stick Your Neck Out covers every aspect of working for change, from choosing an issue to mapping out a strategy, getting a team together, building alliances, working with the media, and more. Each chapter contains a series of practical tips as well as inspiring examples of real people - artists, truck drivers, doctors, waitresses, and others - who have made a difference on issues like poverty, racism, gang violence, environmental pollution, and many more. Everything in this book has been honed and practiced; nothing is untested theory. This is a comprehensive guide to the skills, qualities, and strategies you need to make a difference on any issue. But it's also about becoming fully alive - about the meaning and passion you can add to your own life by getting involved. Active citizenship and personal growth are linked. The information in this book can change your world - and it can change your life.

Does it seem to you that some Christians seem to get all the breaks and things seem to always go their way? Have you wondered why this happens to them and not you? This book explains how one person has gotten God's attention and favor in her life and how you can get it, too. Learn how she stood in faith when everything around her looked totally impossible. See how God miraculously saved a home from foreclosure just in the nick of time. Read about the two-year journey of believing for a car that was provided the day before it was desperately needed. There are examples to follow throughout God's Word. Find out how Abraham, Noah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and others received favor from God just by believing what God told them was the absolute truth and standing on His promises. Learn how to truly grow in faith and favor by following those examples. Philippians 4:19 says, "But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." You can experience the power of prayers prayed in faith, believing and see the miraculous happen in your life. God does not exclude people. If He does it for one person, He'll do it for you.

Lorca Plays: 2 by Federico Garcia Lorca Pdf

"Lorca is one of the few indisputably great dramatists of the twentieth century" Observer The Shoemaker's Wonderful Wife and The Love of Don Perlimplín use an old story of the old man married to the young wife to expose the social attitudes of a traditional Spain bound by rigid concepts of decency, reputation and honour. The Puppet Play deploys the puppets' uninhibited and passionate emotions as a direct attack on the 'tedious triviality' of commercial theatre. The Butterfly's Evil Spell explores the themes of love and frustration, while When Five Years Pass is a surrealist play with references to the film Un Chien Andalou [The Andalusian Dog] by Lorca's friend and collaborator, Luis Buñuel.

Speaking of Animals by Robert Palmatier Pdf

No other nonhuman source has served as the basis for more metaphors than animals. Speaking of Animals is a dictionary of animal metaphors that are current in American English. It is comprehensive, historical, and metaphor-based. Each entry refers to the other dictionaries that catalog that same metaphor, and the dates of first appearance in writing are supplied, where possible, for both the metaphor and the name of the source. The main text is organized alphabetically by metaphor rather than by animal or animal behavior; all the metaphors are classified according to their animal source in a list at the end of the book. An animal metaphor is a word, phrase, or sentence that expresses a resemblance or similarity between someone or something and a particular animal or animal class. True metaphors are single words, such as the noun tiger, the verb hog, and the adjective chicken. Phrasal metaphors combine true metaphors with other words, such as blind tiger, hog the road, and chicken colonel. Other animal metaphors take the form of similes, such as like rats leaving a sinking ship and prickly as a hedgehog. Still others take the form of proverbs, such as Don't count your chickens before they hatch and Let sleeping dogs lie. The horse is the animal most frequently referred to in metaphors, followed closely by the dog. The Bible is the most prolific literary source of animal metaphors, followed closely by Shakespeare.
