Applied Stochastic Analysis by Weinan E,Tiejun Li,Eric Vanden-Eijnden Pdf

This is a textbook for advanced undergraduate students and beginning graduate students in applied mathematics. It presents the basic mathematical foundations of stochastic analysis (probability theory and stochastic processes) as well as some important practical tools and applications (e.g., the connection with differential equations, numerical methods, path integrals, random fields, statistical physics, chemical kinetics, and rare events). The book strikes a nice balance between mathematical formalism and intuitive arguments, a style that is most suited for applied mathematicians. Readers can learn both the rigorous treatment of stochastic analysis as well as practical applications in modeling and simulation. Numerous exercises nicely supplement the main exposition.

Stochastic Analysis by Shigeo Kusuoka Pdf

This book is intended for university seniors and graduate students majoring in probability theory or mathematical finance. In the first chapter, results in probability theory are reviewed. Then, it follows a discussion of discrete-time martingales, continuous time square integrable martingales (particularly, continuous martingales of continuous paths), stochastic integrations with respect to continuous local martingales, and stochastic differential equations driven by Brownian motions. In the final chapter, applications to mathematical finance are given. The preliminary knowledge needed by the reader is linear algebra and measure theory. Rigorous proofs are provided for theorems, propositions, and lemmas. In this book, the definition of conditional expectations is slightly different than what is usually found in other textbooks. For the Doob–Meyer decomposition theorem, only square integrable submartingales are considered, and only elementary facts of the square integrable functions are used in the proof. In stochastic differential equations, the Euler–Maruyama approximation is used mainly to prove the uniqueness of martingale problems and the smoothness of solutions of stochastic differential equations.

Stochastic Analysis in Discrete and Continuous Settings by Nicolas Privault Pdf

This monograph is an introduction to some aspects of stochastic analysis in the framework of normal martingales, in both discrete and continuous time. The text is mostly self-contained, except for Section 5.7 that requires some background in geometry, and should be accessible to graduate students and researchers having already received a basic training in probability. Prereq- sites are mostly limited to a knowledge of measure theory and probability, namely?-algebras,expectations,andconditionalexpectations.Ashortint- duction to stochastic calculus for continuous and jump processes is given in Chapter 2 using normal martingales, whose predictable quadratic variation is the Lebesgue measure. There already exists several books devoted to stochastic analysis for c- tinuous di?usion processes on Gaussian and Wiener spaces, cf. e.g. [51], [63], [65], [72], [83], [84], [92], [128], [134], [143], [146], [147]. The particular f- ture of this text is to simultaneously consider continuous processes and jump processes in the uni?ed framework of normal martingales.

Stochastic Analysis for Poisson Point Processes by Giovanni Peccati,Matthias Reitzner Pdf

Stochastic geometry is the branch of mathematics that studies geometric structures associated with random configurations, such as random graphs, tilings and mosaics. Due to its close ties with stereology and spatial statistics, the results in this area are relevant for a large number of important applications, e.g. to the mathematical modeling and statistical analysis of telecommunication networks, geostatistics and image analysis. In recent years – due mainly to the impetus of the authors and their collaborators – a powerful connection has been established between stochastic geometry and the Malliavin calculus of variations, which is a collection of probabilistic techniques based on the properties of infinite-dimensional differential operators. This has led in particular to the discovery of a large number of new quantitative limit theorems for high-dimensional geometric objects. This unique book presents an organic collection of authoritative surveys written by the principal actors in this rapidly evolving field, offering a rigorous yet lively presentation of its many facets.

This book focuses on counting processes and continuous-time Markov chains motivated by examples and applications drawn from chemical networks in systems biology. The book should serve well as a supplement for courses in probability and stochastic processes. While the material is presented in a manner most suitable for students who have studied stochastic processes up to and including martingales in continuous time, much of the necessary background material is summarized in the Appendix. Students and Researchers with a solid understanding of calculus, differential equations and elementary probability and who are well-motivated by the applications will find this book of interest. David F. Anderson is Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin and Thomas G. Kurtz is Emeritus Professor in the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics at that university. Their research is focused on probability and stochastic processes with applications in biology and other areas of science and technology. These notes are based in part on lectures given by Professor Anderson at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and by Professor Kurtz at Goethe University Frankfurt.

Introduction to Stochastic Analysis and Malliavin Calculus by Giuseppe Da Prato Pdf

This volume presents an introductory course on differential stochastic equations and Malliavin calculus. The material of the book has grown out of a series of courses delivered at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (and also at the Trento and Funchal Universities) and has been refined over several years of teaching experience in the subject. The lectures are addressed to a reader who is familiar with basic notions of measure theory and functional analysis. The first part is devoted to the Gaussian measure in a separable Hilbert space, the Malliavin derivative, the construction of the Brownian motion and Itô's formula. The second part deals with differential stochastic equations and their connection with parabolic problems. The third part provides an introduction to the Malliavin calculus. Several applications are given, notably the Feynman-Kac, Girsanov and Clark-Ocone formulae, the Krylov-Bogoliubov and Von Neumann theorems. In this third edition several small improvements are added and a new section devoted to the differentiability of the Feynman-Kac semigroup is introduced. A considerable number of corrections and improvements have been made.

Introduction to Infinite Dimensional Stochastic Analysis by Zhi-yuan Huang,Jia-an Yan Pdf

The infinite dimensional analysis as a branch of mathematical sciences was formed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Motivated by problems in mathematical physics, the first steps in this field were taken by V. Volterra, R. GateallX, P. Levy and M. Frechet, among others (see the preface to Levy[2]). Nevertheless, the most fruitful direction in this field is the infinite dimensional integration theory initiated by N. Wiener and A. N. Kolmogorov which is closely related to the developments of the theory of stochastic processes. It was Wiener who constructed for the first time in 1923 a probability measure on the space of all continuous functions (i. e. the Wiener measure) which provided an ideal math ematical model for Brownian motion. Then some important properties of Wiener integrals, especially the quasi-invariance of Gaussian measures, were discovered by R. Cameron and W. Martin[l, 2, 3]. In 1931, Kolmogorov[l] deduced a second partial differential equation for transition probabilities of Markov processes order with continuous trajectories (i. e. diffusion processes) and thus revealed the deep connection between theories of differential equations and stochastic processes. The stochastic analysis created by K. Ito (also independently by Gihman [1]) in the forties is essentially an infinitesimal analysis for trajectories of stochastic processes. By virtue of Ito's stochastic differential equations one can construct diffusion processes via direct probabilistic methods and treat them as function als of Brownian paths (i. e. the Wiener functionals).

Stochastic Analysis for Finance with Simulations by Geon Ho Choe Pdf

This book is an introduction to stochastic analysis and quantitative finance; it includes both theoretical and computational methods. Topics covered are stochastic calculus, option pricing, optimal portfolio investment, and interest rate models. Also included are simulations of stochastic phenomena, numerical solutions of the Black–Scholes–Merton equation, Monte Carlo methods, and time series. Basic measure theory is used as a tool to describe probabilistic phenomena. The level of familiarity with computer programming is kept to a minimum. To make the book accessible to a wider audience, some background mathematical facts are included in the first part of the book and also in the appendices. This work attempts to bridge the gap between mathematics and finance by using diagrams, graphs and simulations in addition to rigorous theoretical exposition. Simulations are not only used as the computational method in quantitative finance, but they can also facilitate an intuitive and deeper understanding of theoretical concepts. Stochastic Analysis for Finance with Simulations is designed for readers who want to have a deeper understanding of the delicate theory of quantitative finance by doing computer simulations in addition to theoretical study. It will particularly appeal to advanced undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and business, but not excluding practitioners in finance industry.

Stochastic Processes by Peter Watts Jones,Peter Smith Pdf

Based on a well-established and popular course taught by the authors over many years, Stochastic Processes: An Introduction, Third Edition, discusses the modelling and analysis of random experiments, where processes evolve over time. The text begins with a review of relevant fundamental probability. It then covers gambling problems, random walks, and Markov chains. The authors go on to discuss random processes continuous in time, including Poisson, birth and death processes, and general population models, and present an extended discussion on the analysis of associated stationary processes in queues. The book also explores reliability and other random processes, such as branching, martingales, and simple epidemics. A new chapter describing Brownian motion, where the outcomes are continuously observed over continuous time, is included. Further applications, worked examples and problems, and biographical details have been added to this edition. Much of the text has been reworked. The appendix contains key results in probability for reference. This concise, updated book makes the material accessible, highlighting simple applications and examples. A solutions manual with fully worked answers of all end-of-chapter problems, and Mathematica® and R programs illustrating many processes discussed in the book, can be downloaded from crcpress.com.

Introduction to Stochastic Analysis by Vigirdas Mackevicius Pdf

This is an introduction to stochastic integration and stochastic differential equations written in an understandable way for a wide audience, from students of mathematics to practitioners in biology, chemistry, physics, and finances. The presentation is based on the naïve stochastic integration, rather than on abstract theories of measure and stochastic processes. The proofs are rather simple for practitioners and, at the same time, rather rigorous for mathematicians. Detailed application examples in natural sciences and finance are presented. Much attention is paid to simulation diffusion processes. The topics covered include Brownian motion; motivation of stochastic models with Brownian motion; Itô and Stratonovich stochastic integrals, Itô’s formula; stochastic differential equations (SDEs); solutions of SDEs as Markov processes; application examples in physical sciences and finance; simulation of solutions of SDEs (strong and weak approximations). Exercises with hints and/or solutions are also provided.
