Hunting Game by Helene Tursten Pdf

Helene Tursten's explosive new series features Detective Inspector Embla Nyström, a sharp, unforgiving woman working in a man's world. When one of her peers is murdered during a routine hunting trip, Embla must track down the killer while confronting a dark incident from her past. Twenty-eight-year-old Embla Nyström has been plagued by chronic nightmares and racing thoughts ever since she can remember. She has learned to channel most of her anxious energy into her position as Detective Inspector in the mobile unit in Gothenburg, Sweden, and into sports. A talented hunter and prizewinning Nordic welterweight, she is glad to be taking a vacation from her high-stress job to attend the annual moose hunt with her family and friends. But when Embla arrives at her uncle’s cabin in rural Dalsland, she sees an unfamiliar face has joined the group: Peter, enigmatic, attractive, and newly divorced. And she isn’t the only one to notice. One longtime member of the hunt doesn’t welcome the presence of an outsider and is quick to point out that with Peter, the group’s number reaches thirteen, a bad omen for the week. Sure enough, a string of unsettling incidents follow, culminating in the disappearance of two hunters. Embla takes charge of the search, and they soon find one of the missing men floating facedown in the nearby lake. With the help of local reinforcements, Embla delves into the dark pasts of her fellow hunters in search of a killer.

Ghost Hunters by William W. Lace Pdf

Do ghosts exist? Groups of ghost hunters are bringing modern technology to bear in seeking answers to this age-old question. This book tells how ghost hunters go about their investigations--using devices such as those that monitor or measure changes in light, sound, and temperature--and to what extent they have succeeded. It also examines the divide between those who see ghost hunting as science and those who see it as something less.

Lessons in Duck Hunting by Jayne Buxton Pdf

A harried single mother of two young children in London, Ally James is less than thrilled with her lackluster life. Her job marketing marmalade is a yawn fest and the domestic front seems to streak by in a flash of fish sticks and school runs. To top it all off, Ally’s ex-husband David seems to have a never-ending roulette wheel of rotating girlfriends, while Ally has endured two meager (and disastrous) dates in as many years. Then there’s David’s newest arm-candy, Chantal, who is the first flavor-of-the-month to ever meet the kids–that must mean it’s serious. Ally’s friend Mel is sure she has the solution to the malaise: a Market Yourself dating seminar. It’s either the perfect way to find a new man or the first sign of the apocalypse–Ally isn’t sure which, but she decides to give it a whirl. What happens next is stranger, and more invigorating, than Ally could ever have imagined.

Teaching and Hunting in East Africa by Dan McNickle Pdf

"Lati knew his stuff and before the sun was high we were on the trail of a small herd. These elephant had fed into thick thorn scrub. We could hear them up ahead, close, but we couldn't see them as visibility was close to nil. I reached for some dirt to sift through my fingers and track the breezes. The elephant were almost stationary, languidly browsing. Judging from the contented purring of their stomachs, they had no idea we were there. We inched closer, the heat and the tension oppressive. Twenty yards; ten yards; ten feet. We could see them, but couldn't make out one end from the other, nor could we see any ivory. Big gray slabs of wrinkled hide was all that was discernable, and even that seemed to pulse and dance out of focus in the heat and thorn. Lati touched my shoulder, motioning to back off. At mid-day the breeze was bound to give us away. We backpedaled, guns ready...." The countries of East Africa were getting independence in the 1960's and the Teachers of East Africa Program, run by Columbia University, was one vehicle used to expand the staffing of the secondary schools so these countries could quickly muster the manpower necessary to run their own affairs. I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the teachers, and this book is the story of my four years spent in Tanzania: teaching, hunting and touring. In the process I had many wonderful experiences with the people, some close calls with the elephants, climbed an active volcano, presided over a polling station in the first Presidential election in Tanzania, and hunted with ear gatherers. I tried to skim Dan's book after we returned from Africa. But it's not the sort of piece you should skim. I really enjoyed all of it, but especially the writer's voice and consciousness -- young, male, enthusiastic, brash, reflective, smart, brave, appreciative and oh so full of life! I loved it! Dr. Rudy Martin, retired, Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington. I want to add that Dan's writing brought back for me the absolute beauty and wonder of East Africa. Socio-ecological Studies in Natural Protected Areas by Alfredo Ortega-Rubio Pdf

This book explores the interactions of local inhabitants and environmental systems in the Protected Natural Areas of Mexico. Its goal is to help understand how social groups contextualize ecological knowledge, how human activities contribute to modifying the environmental matrix, how cultural and economic aspects influence the use, management and conservation of their ecological environment, and how social phenomena are to be viewed against the backdrop of ecological knowledge. The book reviews the epistemological and historical bases of the socio-ecological relationship, and addresses the evolution of human-natural systems. From a methodological standpoint, it assesses the tools required for the integration of “human” and “natural” dimensions in the management of the environmental matrix. Further, in the case studies section, it reviews valuable recent experiences concerning the retro-interactions of local inhabitants with their environmental matrix. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable asset for researchers and professionals all over the world, especially those working in Latin American countries.

It contains excellent advice about not only how to recover all of the black bears you shoot, but how best to do so without risking injury to yourself. Another chapter covers how to field dress bruins, how to get them out of the field, skinning carcasses and how to handle the meat so it will provide many memorable meals. Still one more chapter is devoted to dealing with skulls, so they can be cleaned and preserved as treasured trophies. More valuable chapters touch on selecting a reputable bear guide, in support of spring bear hunts and how to protect bear hunting for the future.
