Submit!?! Oh No, He Ain't the Boss of Me....Is He? by Adrienne Pintilie Pdf

Why do I feel the need to argue about everything with my husband? Why do I feel threatened when being told to do something by anyone? Why do I feel as though I need to win the discussion, turned argument? Why can't I just sit quiet and agree? I remember one particular argument with my husband years ago. As usual, it started by disagreeing on something so benign, it warranted no further discussing. But, oh, no, he wasn't going to get the best of me. Truth be told, we were both thinking the exact same thing. That angst turned into malicious attacks of each other. Why? Why did it have to result into that, every time? One day, I had reached my limit to what I felt was him treating me like a doormat. I fell to my knees in prayer and just asked the Lord to guide my heart and thoughts. What do I need to do to change this cycle? I prayed so many times with what appeared to me to be no answer that I decided to go hunt for an answer in the Scriptures. Don't you just love when the Lord does that? I started researching submission, and this book is the result of that research. I wanted to share my very personal and vulnerable struggles with other women, men, and church groups. If I was having challenges with submission, surely others were too. Maybe, just maybe, my failures could be the catalyst for someone else's success. This book was written based on my personal experiences (negative and positive) and my own struggles with submission as a Christian woman, wife, mother, daughter, employee, and tax-paying citizen. I also hope to shed light on the fact that everyone is under submission in some aspect of their lives. I decided to write this in hopes other women who struggle with this concept might be encouraged that there is hope for the stubborn. I used scriptures specifically related to submission, not just for women, but for everyone. I also infused a great deal of humor throughout as I know this topic can become very heavy-hearted, and using humor made it easier to entice the reader to keep going. I learned a great deal from researching this book, as did my husband, which amazingly made our marriage stronger and more deep-rooted in Christ. I must believe that if it can make a positive impact on our marriage, as stubborn as we both are, I pray it can make a difference for others.

Ask a Manager by Alison Green Pdf

From the creator of the popular website Ask a Manager and New York’s work-advice columnist comes a witty, practical guide to 200 difficult professional conversations—featuring all-new advice! There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Ideal for anyone new to the job market or new to management, or anyone hoping to improve their work experience.”—Library Journal (starred review) “I am a huge fan of Alison Green’s Ask a Manager column. This book is even better. It teaches us how to deal with many of the most vexing big and little problems in our workplaces—and to do so with grace, confidence, and a sense of humor.”—Robert Sutton, Stanford professor and author of The No Asshole Rule and The Asshole Survival Guide “Ask a Manager is the ultimate playbook for navigating the traditional workforce in a diplomatic but firm way.”—Erin Lowry, author of Broke Millennial: Stop Scraping By and Get Your Financial Life Together

Midas by Russell Andrews Pdf

New York's Hamptons are the summer playground for Wall Street big shots, Hollywood starlets, and all species of glitterati in between. But when a Middle Eastern man rigged with explosives walks into a chic restaurant and blows himself up, all that glamour is shattered. And so is the security and safety of the entire United States. Drawn into this case is Justin Westwood, a local East End Harbor cop who is still haunted by the violent deaths of his wife and daughter years before. After meeting a beautiful woman whose hunger for human contact and comfort matches his own, he believes he is finally winning the battle with his old ghosts. Yet just as he is beginning to grasp hold of the new life he's been craving, he is saddled with this new murder investigation-one far more dangerous than any he's ever tackled. Soon after the restaurant explosion-the first suicide bombing ever to hit U.S. shores-a small plane crashes in the middle of East End Harbor. It is initially deemed an accident but after the pilot's body disappears, as do all traces of his identification, Justin realizes he's dealing with sabotage. When more terrorist strikes occur, each more devastating than the last, Justin also begins to understand that they all share an elusive, undeniable link-one that will plunge him into a terrifying journey leading to some of the country's most powerful figures and their darkest, most closely held secrets. If he is to survive, Justin must wend his way through a complicated maze of corruption and confront startling truths about big business and politics and, most of all, about himself. For a long time, Justin Westwood has wondered if he could ever truly be frightened again, or if anything could reclaim his soul. Some part of him hoped it was possible. He is about to get his wish...

American English File 3E Starter Student Book by Christina Latham-Koenig,Clive Oxenden,Jerry Lambert Pdf

American English File Second Edition retains the popular methodology developed by world-renowned authors Christina Latham-Koenig and Clive Oxenden: language + motivation = opportunity. With grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation practice in every lesson, students are equipped with a solid foundation for successful speaking. Plus - an array of digital resources provides even more choice and flexibility. Students can learn in the classroom or on the move with Online Practice. language assessment. The first goal is to explore the difference between fairness and justice in language assessment. The authors distinguish internal and external dimensions of the equitable and just treatment of individuals taking language tests which are used as gatekeeping devices to determine access to education and employment, immigrant status, citizenship, and other rights. The second goal is to show how the extent of test fairness can be demonstrated and improved using the tools of psychometrics, in particular the models collectively known as Rasch measurement. “This book will have an enormous impact on the field of language assessment. Using Rasch analysis models to explore and identify sources of unfairness, the authors make a compelling case for fairness in the design and implementation of language assessment instruments and for justice in the interpretation and use of test results. A real strength of the book is that it guides readers through analytical techniques in an accessible way.” Dan Douglas, Professor Emeritus, Applied Linguistics Program, Iowa State University.

Shakespeare by Any Other Name by Susan O'Connor Pdf

Shakespeare by Any Other Name is a collection of two-act plays for teenagers. Set in different time periods and places, their plots, nevertheless, mirror the story lines of five favorite plays by Shakespeare: Twelfth Night, Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest, As You Like It, and Cymbeline. "Circle Dance" delivers the zany bewilderment of love that one might see in Shakespeare's comedy Twelfth Night. "Bob Weaver and the Teen Angel" takes its characters and plot from Midsummer Night's Dream. True to the setting of the play, all of its musical numbers are top of the chart songs of the 1960s. "The Gentle Art of Reappearing," which parallels Shakespeare's last play The Tempest, involves a different kind of storm on the island of Galveston, Texas. "Games" gives the audience a modern look at Shakespeare's As You Like It with a delightful romantic romp through another Forest of Arden, the piney woods of East Texas. As a spin-off of Cymbeline, "Imogen's War" takes place in 1918 in England and France at the end of WW I with the signing of the Armistice and the resolution of a family feud. For adolescent lovers of Shakespeare, these plays offer a twist from the classic versions of his plays. Not to be confused as alternatives--the Bard is inimitable--Shakespeare by any other name might still seem as sweet.
