The Glorious Summer Series Books 1-3 by CP Ward Pdf

The first three delightful and heartwarming romantic comedies in CP Ward's Glorious Summer Series. Summer at Blue Sands Cove Tired of the city, Grace Clelland returns to Blue Sands, the quiet Cornish seaside village where she grew up. There she will meet old flames and old friends, rekindle old loves and ignite new ones in a novel that will have you dreaming of the soft crash of the waves on the shore, the feel of sand between your toes, overloaded ice-creams and smoky beach barbeques. Summer at Tall Trees Lake When worryingly-close-to-forty Jane Bennett wins a tent in an employee of the month competition, her best friend Annabel suggests they take the unremarkable prize and head for the Cornish countryside. Jane, unmarried, unheralded, and—in her own eyes at least—unimportant, can come up with no decent excuse. Summer at Harbour View House After losing her flat to a fire, thirty-something and single Natasha Bright’s fortunes appear to be on the rise when a friend asks her to look after a beachside summerhouse in the quaint Cornish village of Penkoe for a few weeks. Together with Hannah Lucas, her bubbly and equally-homeless neighbour, Natasha sets off for her Cornish paradise. However, the promised glass palace turns out to be … well, less so, it rains endlessly, the village is a nightmare of oddball locals, and the man next-door is a chauvinist pig. Only as Natasha and Hannah begin to delve deeper do they start to understand just what it is they have found, and how Penkoe just might be a paradise after all…

Emilie and Subhas by Kr̥shṇā Basu Pdf

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s relationship with his wife, Emilie Schenkl, is one of the least-known aspects of the leader’s life. They met in Vienna in June 1934, secretly married in December 1937 in Badgastein, a spa resort in Austria’s Salzburg province, and saw each other for the last time in Berlin in February 1943, two months after the birth in Vienna of their daughter Anita. From 1934 onwards, Subhas and Emilie corresponded continuously through letters whenever they were physically separated. Born in 1910 into a middle-class Austrian family of Vienna, Emilie Schenkl nurtured her husband’s memory and cultivated a deep attachment from afar to India all her life, until her death in 1996. She brought up their daughter on her own, working to support herself and Anita. Fiercely self-reliant and very private, Emilie lived a life of great dignity and quiet courage. Emilie was especially close to Netaji’s nephew Sisir Kumar Bose, whom she first met in Vienna in the late 1940s, and after his marriage in December 1955 she also formed a close friendship with his wife Krishna. Krishna knew Emilie personally from 1959 until Emilie’s death in 1996. This book, illustrated with forty-eight photographs from archives and family albums, is a unique record of Emilie’s life of fortitude and the love story of Emilie and Subhas.

Track in the Forest by Bob Burns Pdf

The 1968 US men's track and field team featured such legends as Tommie Smith, Bob Beamon, Al Oerter, and Dick Fosbury and they won 12 gold medals and set six world records at the Mexico City Games, one of the most dominant performances in Olympic history. The Black Power protest of Tommie Smith and John Carlos on the victory stand in Mexico City remains a most enduring images of the games. A 400-meter track carved out of the Eldorado National Forest above Lake Tahoe played a role in molding that juggernaut. To acclimate US athletes for the elevation of Mexico City, the training camp and final Olympic selection was held at Echo Summit near the California-Nevada border. On a track in which hundreds of trees were left on the infield to minimize environmental impact, four world records fell—more than have been set at any US meet since. But the Vietnam War was raging, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were assassinated, and a group of athletes from San Jose State had been threatening to boycott the Mexico City Games to protest racial injustice. Informed by dozens of interviews and the deep knowledge of sports journalist and track enthusiast Bob Burns, this is the story of how in one of the most divisive years in American history, a California mountaintop provided an incomparable group of Americans shelter from the storm.
