Sustainable Knitting for Beginners and Beyond by epipa Pdf

The perfect resource for any knitter wanting to reduce their carbon footprint and create wonderful, sustainable projects for their friends and family. This collection of twenty projects from knitting blogger and environmentalist Epipa shows you how to knit more sustainably. With this practical guide you can learn how to make your knitting more environmentally friendly by choosing the most eco-friendly yarns such as bamboo, organic cotton, linen and flax, as well as tips on how to reduce your yarn footprint. Drawing on her childhood experience where she was encouraged by her grandmothers to reuse, repair, and recycle, Epipa shares all her ideas for living a more sustainable lifestyle while still enjoying the craft of knitting. As well as advice on yarn sourcing and the environmental impact of various different types of yarn, Epipa shares her knitting patterns for a more zero waste lifestyle. There are instructions for how to turn old t-shirts, bed linen and tablecloths into your own cotton yarn and how to restore unravelled yarn from unfinished projects to its former glory rather than laying abandoned in a cupboard. The projects include beautiful, useful and practical things for everyday life such as shopping baskets for the larder, the kitchen and the bathroom as well as rugs and runners and accessories for the bathroom. Choose from knitted tea towels, dish clothes, and shopping bags so you don’t need to buy “disposable” plastic versions. Many of the projects are suitable for beginner knitters, and all the basic knitting instructions are included, but there are also more complicated projects including a knitted top and backpack for those with more experience.

The patterns are presented against the backdrop of Irene's essays, providing the cultural and environmental context in which knitting was practiced in the High Atlas. In addition, Irene's research takes the reader backwards in time as she examines the history of knitting in Morocco and North Africa. Through historical accounts, linguistic clues, and museum artifacts - some of which have not been available to the general public until now - Irene presents a picture of early knitting and how it may have developed in North Africa. Her research is accompanied by knitting patterns inspired by historical sources, bringing to life once again the skills of early North African knitters.

Seasonal Slow Knitting by Hannah Thiessen Pdf

“Thiessen’s new book is all about promoting creativity at a slower pace, offering advice on finding the time and space to knit in a restful, calming way.” —The Knitter Slow Knitting introduced crafters to a process of more mindful making through five basic tenets: source carefully, make thoughtfully, think seasonally, experiment fearlessly, and explore openly. Now, this seasonal approach encourages knitters to delve deeper into those concepts, applying them to everyday making through a series of essays, projects, and patterns that explore the life of a knitter throughout the year. Organized similarly to a seasonal planting guide or farmer’s almanac, each chapter and section is designed to identify and encourage small ways that knitters may begin to employ noticeable change: organizing your yarn stash, carving out time for knitting, and starting on that baby blanket in a timely manner. The ideas explored here add up to a fuller, more mindful year, all through the joyful experience that is knitting.

Beyond Design: The Synergy of Apparel Product Development, Fifth Edition maps the processes required to bring apparel products from concept to consumer. This full-color text takes students step-by-step through the decision-making involved in the pre-production processes of apparel product development including business, creative, technical, and production planning. Updated chapter content reflects evolving industry practice. It demonstrates how these processes must be coordinated to get the right product to market, when consumers want it, and at a price they are willing to pay in an increasingly digital environment. The text seeks to address how functional approaches vary depending on a business' size and fashion focus. More global in scope, the fifth edition includes examples and case studies of multi-national companies and incorporates global nomenclature when it differs from the US industry. This new edition also advances its discussion of how new technologies continue to shorten the product development calendar. Proceeding Book of Proceeding Indonesian Textile Conference : textile 4.0 clothing and beyond (international conference) by Asril Senoaji Soekoco, Karlina Somantri,Valentinus Galih Vidia Putra Pdf

Welcome to the 3rd Indonesian Textile Conference (ITC) 2019. It is our great honor and pleasure to have you all here today. Indonesian Textile Conference is by far the only scientific event in the field of textiles in Indonesia aimed to bring together leading researchers, experts, students and people from the industry to share their knowledge and exchange scientific ideas. Indonesia is one of the leading textile exporter countries in the world with a total export value of USD 15.3 billion in 2015 and ranked the third after palm oil and steel (source: Ministry of Industry of Republic of Indonesia). It is one of the ten priority industries and the mainstay of Indonesian national industry. In a global economy and fast changing world, the future of Indonesian textile industry will increasingly depend on the industry’s ability to relentlessly innovate in its products, to use the most advanced, flexible and resource-efficient processes and to focus its organizational structure as well as business operations according to the ever changing and growing needs of its customers. In all that, research and innovation are vital and play an ever increasing role. Indonesian Textile Conference was initiated and is dedicated to promote and bring progress to research and innovation in the field of textile and textile-related subjects in Indonesia. Textile is a rich multidisciplinary area of study and in fact has attracted a great deal of attention and numerous contributions from non-textile scientists. It is not just about clothing. It is all about material and all aspects that are inherent in the process of its production and applications. It covers a whole lot of area which includes but not limited to: advanced material and textile fibers, natural fibers and natural dyes, utilization of natural sources for textiles in general and/or functional textiles, environmental protection and ecological considerations in textile industry, life cycle analysis, clean/green production, best practices in energy efficient processes, bio-based polymer, bioengineering, nanotechnology, textile-based composites, industrial management and engineering, traditional textiles and batik, textile preservation and conservation, and design. Smart, functional and interactive textile is another area of interest which is quite recent and resulted from the convergence of latest developments in material science, physics and chemistry, microelectronics and informatics. Stimuli responsive materials, self-healing polymers, textile energy devices, textile sensor and antenna are only a few examples of development in this area. Recently added to this is a new emerging “fashionable technology”. It is a new concept that brings fashion to the next level by integrating technology and fashion. It looks at the future fashion as intersection of design, fashion, science, and technology beyond wearable technology. Still another important and interesting issue in textile is sustainability, especially due to the stigma associated with the industry as the big polluter and being not environmentally-friendly. Sustainable textiles and clothing involves the choice of materials, technologies and processing methods that ensure environmental and social friendliness and safety to human health throughout the entire life-cycle phases. Thus, there is an ample room for almost everyone to contribute in this conference. On behalf of the Organizing Committee and the management of Politeknik STTT Bandung, have a productive and fruitful conference.
