The Aesthetic Imperative by Peter Sloterdijk Pdf

In this wide-ranging book, renowned philosopher and cultural theorist Peter Sloterdijk examines art in all its rich and varied forms: from music to architecture, light to movement, and design to typography. Moving between the visible and the invisible, the audible and the inaudible, his analyses span the centuries, from ancient civilizations to contemporary Hollywood. With great verve and insight he considers the key issues that have faced thinkers from Aristotle to Adorno, looking at art in its relation to ethics, metaphysics, society, politics, anthropology and the subject. Sloterdijk explores a variety of topics, from the Greco-Roman invention of postcards to the rise of the capitalist art market, from the black boxes and white cubes of modernism to the growth of museums and memorial culture. In doing so, he extends his characteristic method of defamiliarization to transform the way we look at works of art and artistic movements. His bold and original approach leads us away from the well-trodden paths of conventional art history to develop a theory of aesthetics which rejects strict categorization, emphasizing instead the crucial importance of individual subjectivity as a counter to the latent dangers of collective culture. This sustained reflection, at once playful, serious and provocative, goes to the very heart of Sloterdijk’s enduring philosophical preoccupation with the aesthetic. It will be essential reading for students and scholars of philosophy and aesthetics and will appeal to anyone interested in culture and the arts more generally.

Carols from the Grotto : AN Elf’s Thaws a Frozen Soul by Eldren Frostlight Pdf

In the heart of a frosted kingdom, where winter winds whisper forgotten carols and snowflakes dance on starlight, dwells Ember, a dragon whose heart is as cold and jagged as the icicles clinging to his mountain home. Christmas, to him, is nothing more than a grating cacophony of forced cheer, a painful reminder of a past betrayal that shattered his spirit. Then, fate takes a whimsical twist, hurling a tiny elf named Pip, lost and shivering, into Ember's icy Grotto. A reluctant pact is forged, binding the grumpy dragon and the determined elf on a journey through enchanted forests and frost-kissed villages. As they delve into the forgotten magic of Christmas, secrets tumble from frozen silence, a chilling threat creeps from the shadows, and Ember finds himself grappling with a choice: remain cloaked in his icy isolation or embrace the thawing warmth of Yuletide spirit. This is a tale of an unlikely friendship, where an elf's unwavering optimism melts the frost around a dragon's heart, and whispers of forgotten magic weave a tapestry of hope against the encroaching darkness. Prepare to soar on wings of fire and song, as Ember and Pip learn the true meaning of courage, forgiveness, and the transformative power of carols that rise above even the deepest frost, rekindling the spark of Christmas joy in a kingdom lost to the cold. Turn the page, dear reader, and let the tale of Ember and Pip, woven with frosty whimsy and Yuletide wonder, forever warm your heart with the enduring magic of Christmas.

Symphony of Light and Winter by Renea Mason Pdf

For Linden Hill, life was predictable-go to work, an occasional drink with friends, and repeat-until one unexpected night when she finds herself face-to-face with her past-all six-foot-five-inches of sex-god perfection she once knew as Cyril. The problem? He died. Or so she thought. But Linden's long-lost love isn't welcoming her with open arms. Fueled by suspicion and doubt, their turbulent re-acquaintance drives Cyril to desperate acts. The chance at renewing their love is jeopardized, pulling Linden into his war with supernatural rivals hell-bent on his destruction. Defeating the enemy seems easy compared to surviving each other. With hunger threatening to consume them, and love begging to endure, can Linden learn to accept who she must become to save them both?

Rautavaara's Journey in Music by Barbara Blanchard Hong Pdf

Einojuhani Rautavaara (1928–2016) has been called Finland’s most notable musical export after Sibelius. His prolific output includes eleven operas; eight symphonies; eleven concertos; choral works for the Orthodox, Lutheran, and Roman Catholic churches; secular choral works; chamber music; vocal solos; and keyboard works. Many of these works were commissioned by internationally known performers and ensembles including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Richard Stoltzman, Hilary Hahn, Anne Akiko Meiers, Gerald Finley, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Juilliard School of Music Orchestra. Perhaps most frequently performed are his Cantus Arcticus, a concerto for recorded arctic birds and orchestra, Angel of Light, his seventh symphony, and the Lorca choral suite depicting Death as a stalker in a Spanish village. Rautavaara’s Journey in Music is divided into two sections; the first a biography and discussion of works that show his various style changes, from neoclassical, to twelve-tone, to neoromantic, and finally to a personal expressive style combining elements of twelve-tone and tonality. The second part divides his works by genre and gives more detailed information of stylistic analysis, libretto, provenance, and, often, reception.

PROMETHEUS R&D SYNESTHESIA IN ART by Bulat M. Galeyev Pdf

Prometheus R&D argued and defended the opinion that synesthesia rather than being a mind anomaly is a norm of human psychic perception, imagination, and creativity manifested in non-verbal thinking, realized by either involuntary or by purposeful comparison of different modalities, on the basis of structural, semantic, or emotional similarities. In this context, synesthesia associates with cultural aspects rather than being a biological phenomenon, moreover, Bulat Galeyev persistently stressed that language, monosensory, and bisensory arts, serve as the “testing areas” where synaesthesia is formed and most actively cultivated.

A Soviet Credo: Shostakovich's Fourth Symphony by Pauline Fairclough Pdf

Composed in 1935-36 and intended to be his artistic 'credo', Shostakovich's Fourth Symphony was not performed publicly until 1961. Here, Dr Pauline Fairclough tackles head-on one of the most significant and least understood of Shostakovich's major works. She argues that the Fourth Symphony was radically different from its Soviet contemporaries in terms of its structure, dramaturgy, tone and even language, and therefore challenged the norms of Soviet symphonism at a crucial stage of its development. With the backing of prominent musicologists such as Ivan Sollertinsky, the composer could realistically have expected the premiere to have taken place, and may even have intended the symphony to be a model for a new kind of 'democratic' Soviet symphonism. Fairclough meticulously examines the score to inform a discussion of tonal and thematic processes, allusion, paraphrase and reference to musical types, or intonations. Such analysis is set deeply in the context of Soviet musical culture during the period 1932-36, involving Shostakovich's contemporaries Shebalin, Myaskovsky, Kabalevsky and Popov. A new method of analysis is also advanced here, where a range of Soviet and Western analytical methods are informed by the theoretical work of Shostakovich's contemporaries Viktor Shklovsky, Boris Tomashevsky, Mikhail Bakhtin and Ivan Sollertinsky, together with Theodor Adorno's late study of Mahler. In this way, the book will significantly increase an understanding of the symphony and its context.
