Technical Analysis for Algorithmic Pattern Recognition by Prodromos E. Tsinaslanidis,Achilleas D. Zapranis Pdf

The main purpose of this book is to resolve deficiencies and limitations that currently exist when using Technical Analysis (TA). Particularly, TA is being used either by academics as an “economic test” of the weak-form Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) or by practitioners as a main or supplementary tool for deriving trading signals. This book approaches TA in a systematic way utilizing all the available estimation theory and tests. This is achieved through the developing of novel rule-based pattern recognizers, and the implementation of statistical tests for assessing the importance of realized returns. More emphasis is given to technical patterns where subjectivity in their identification process is apparent. Our proposed methodology is based on the algorithmic and thus unbiased pattern recognition. The unified methodological framework presented in this book can serve as a benchmark for both future academic studies that test the null hypothesis of the weak-form EMH and for practitioners that want to embed TA within their trading/investment decision making processes.

Mathematical and Statistical Methods for Actuarial Sciences and Finance by Marco Corazza,Manfred Gilli,Cira Perna,Claudio Pizzi,Marilena Sibillo Pdf

The cooperation and contamination between mathematicians, statisticians and econometricians working in actuarial sciences and finance is improving the research on these topics and producing numerous meaningful scientific results. This volume presents new ideas, in the form of four- to six-page papers, presented at the International Conference eMAF2020 – Mathematical and Statistical Methods for Actuarial Sciences and Finance. Due to the now sadly famous COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was held remotely through the Zoom platform offered by the Department of Economics of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice on September 18, 22 and 25, 2020. eMAF2020 is the ninth edition of an international biennial series of scientific meetings, started in 2004 at the initiative of the Department of Economics and Statistics of the University of Salerno. The effectiveness of this idea has been proven by wide participation in all editions, which have been held in Salerno (2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014), Venice (2008, 2012 and 2020), Paris (2016) and Madrid (2018). This book covers a wide variety of subjects: artificial intelligence and machine learning in finance and insurance, behavioral finance, credit risk methods and models, dynamic optimization in finance, financial data analytics, forecasting dynamics of actuarial and financial phenomena, foreign exchange markets, insurance models, interest rate models, longevity risk, models and methods for financial time series analysis, multivariate techniques for financial markets analysis, pension systems, portfolio selection and management, real-world finance, risk analysis and management, trading systems, and others. This volume is a valuable resource for academics, PhD students, practitioners, professionals and researchers. Moreover, it is also of interest to other readers with quantitative background knowledge.

A new approach to the issue of data quality in pattern recognition Detailing foundational concepts before introducing more complex methodologies and algorithms, this book is a self-contained manual for advanced data analysis and data mining. Top-down organization presents detailed applications only after methodological issues have been mastered, and step-by-step instructions help ensure successful implementation of new processes. By positioning data quality as a factor to be dealt with rather than overcome, the framework provided serves as a valuable, versatile tool in the analysis arsenal. For decades, practical need has inspired intense theoretical and applied research into pattern recognition for numerous and diverse applications. Throughout, the limiting factor and perpetual problem has been data—its sheer diversity, abundance, and variable quality presents the central challenge to pattern recognition innovation. Pattern Recognition: A Quality of Data Perspective repositions that challenge from a hurdle to a given, and presents a new framework for comprehensive data analysis that is designed specifically to accommodate problem data. Designed as both a practical manual and a discussion about the most useful elements of pattern recognition innovation, this book: Details fundamental pattern recognition concepts, including feature space construction, classifiers, rejection, and evaluation Provides a systematic examination of the concepts, design methodology, and algorithms involved in pattern recognition Includes numerous experiments, detailed schemes, and more advanced problems that reinforce complex concepts Acts as a self-contained primer toward advanced solutions, with detailed background and step-by-step processes Introduces the concept of granules and provides a framework for granular computing Pattern recognition plays a pivotal role in data analysis and data mining, fields which are themselves being applied in an expanding sphere of utility. By facing the data quality issue head-on, this book provides students, practitioners, and researchers with a clear way forward amidst the ever-expanding data supply.

Technical Analysis Applications by Florin Cornel Dumiter,Florin Marius Turcaș Pdf

This book integrates technical analysis in the capital markets: stock market theories, valuation approaches, portfolio theories, company analysis. In addition to deepening the overall inspection of technical analysis, the book will challenge the corporate norm and offer alternative theories, sometimes even contrary theories, and explore related areas in the context of increasing investment efficiency. Unlike other research in this area, this approach does not consider technical analysis as an ultimate and absolute truth and recognizes that by studying all aspects of an interdisciplinary problem, the chances of success increase substantially. The book will be of specific interest to academics, students and practitioners of financial markets.

Thinning Methodologies for Pattern Recognition by C Y Suen,P S P Wang Pdf

Thinning is a technique widely used in the pre-processing stage of a pattern recognition system to compress data and to enhance feature extraction in the subsequent stage. It reduces a digitized pattern to a skeleton so that all resulting branches are 1 pixel thick. The method seems easy at first and has many advantages, however after two decades of intensive research, it has been found to be very challenging due to the difficulties in programming computers to do it. This collection of 15 papers by leading scientists working in the area examines the theoretical and experimental aspects of thinning methodologies. The authors have addressed the problems faced, compared their performance results with others, and assessed the challenges ahead. Researchers will find the volume helpful in shedding light on difficult issues and stimulating further research in the area.
