The Great Rift Valleys of Pangea in Eastern North America: Tectonics, structure, and volcanism by Peter M. LeTourneau,Paul Eric Olsen Pdf

The breakup of the Pangean supercontinent in the Triassic-Jurassic age left great rift basins containing an extraordinary record of the physical and biological conditions which precipitated a major extinction event at the time. These basins collectively form a rift province called the Central Atlantic Margin, which spans more than 45 degrees of paleolatitude and records over 35 million years of Earth history. Leading experts present a detailed review of the rift province's geology, paleobiology, and geophysics. This extensive two-volume work offers in-depth coverage of the North American components of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province. In volume 1, leading researchers give thorough reviews and highlight recent advances in our understanding of the structural geology, tectonics, and volcanism of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province.

Structural Geology by Robert D. Hatcher Pdf

This state-of-the-art text offers students balanced coverage of the full range of topics, supported by a wealth of outstanding illustrations and photographs. The text opens with an overview of basic geologic principles that paves the way for a better understanding of structural geology. The topics of stress and strain, deformation mechanisms, and strain measurement provide a foundation upon which the text's remaining coverage is built. Self-contained chapters meet instructor's individual needs. A brief introduction to geophysical techniques, principally seismic reflection and refraction, Earth magnetism, and gravity, enhances a better understanding of crustal structures. This latest edition has been revised for greater clarity and to incorporate the most current technical information possible. *Provides balanced coverage of all topics, supported by numerous illustrations and photographs. *An introductory review of fundamental geologic principles and laws, geochronology, and principles of equilibrium gives students a strong foundation and prepares them for subsequent topics. *Essays in each chapter encourage further study in key subjects. Each chapter offers a short section on an ad

Thrust Tectonics by K. R. McClay Pdf

K.R. McClay Department of Geology, Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London, Egham, Surrey, England TW20 OEX. Since the first Thrust and Nappe Tectonics Conference in London in 1979 (McClay & Price 1981), and the Toulouse Meeting on Thrusting and Deformation in 1984 (Platt et al. 1986) there have been considerable advances in the study of thrust systems incorporating new field observations, conceptual models, mechanical models, analogue and numerical simulations, together with geophysical studies of thrust belts. Thrust Tectonics 1990 was an International Conference convened by the editor and held at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London, Egham Surrey, from April 4th until April 7th 1990. There were one hundred and seventy participants from all continents except South America. The conference was generously sponsored by Brasoil U.K. Limited, BP Exploration, Chevron U.K. Limited, Clyde Petroleum, Enterprise Oil, Esso Exploration and Production UK Limited, and Shell U.K. Exploration and Production. One hundred and five contributions were presented at the meeting, - seventy six oral presentations (together with poster displays) and an additional twenty nine posters without oral presentation (McClay 1990, conference abstract volume).

Structural Geology and Tectonics Field Guidebook — Volume 1 by Soumyajit Mukherjee Pdf

This book helps a novice to explore the terrain independently. Geoscience fieldwork with a focus on structural geology and tectonics has become more important in the last few years from both academic and industrial perspectives. This book also works as a resource material for batches of students or geological survey professional undergoing training as parts of their course curriculum. Industry persons, on the other hand, can get a first-hand idea about what to expect in the field, in case no academic person is available with the team. This book focused on structural geology and tectonics compiles for the very first time terrains from several regions of the globe.

Deformation Mechanisms, Rheology and Tectonics by Siese de Meer Pdf

The motion and deformation of rocks are processes of fundamental importance in shaping the Earth, from outer crustal layers to the deep mantle. Reconstructions of the evolution of the Earth therefore require detailed knowledge of the geometry of deformation structures and their relative timing, of the motions leading to deformation structures and of the mechanisms governing these motions. This volume contains a collection of 22 papers on field, experimental and theoretical studies that add to our knowledge of these processes.

Tectonic and Structural Framework of the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt by Ali Farzipour Saein Pdf

The latest volume in the Developments in Structural Geology and Tectonics series from Elsevier, Tectonic and Structural Framework of the Zagros Fold–Thrust Belt is a collection of the most up-to date research and developments in the unique tectonic and structural geology of the Zagros. The Zagros fold–thrust belt is famous among geologists and is one of the most-studied terrains in the world. Because of its unique structures, the Zagros orogeny is challenging for many researchers and experts; this book is the essential reference that collates the newest data and fully explores that aspect. In addition, because the Zagros range is a potential source for hydrocarbons, it is of interest to petroleum geologists and exploration companies worldwide. This book is an essential, cutting-edge reference for oil companies, structural geologists, and students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Includes valuable new data about one of the most famous collisional mountain ranges in the world, the Zagros fold–thrust belts, as a guide for other collisional ranges such as the Himalaya, the Alps, and the Andes, as they share common fundamental deformation mechanisms Provides research from geologists across the world, with the goal of understanding the unique dynamics and kinematics of the Zagros range
