This book presents a comprehensive collection of classic cases and problem scenarios encountered as bedside case discussions during ward rounds. It facilitates the practical management of hepatic disorders. The unique aspect of hepatology involves the blend of the basic tenet of clinical medicine applied to liver disease and a multitude of interventional modalities in the management of liver, biliary, and pancreatic diseases. This book takes the reader through the process of ruling in and ruling out possibilities based on clinical data (history and examination) and then traces the logical trajectory of each case from recommended investigations to the analysis of test results and finally to making a syndromic diagnosis. By adopting an evidence-based approach, the book emphasizes analytical and need-based studies to exclude any mimics. Clinical Hepatology by G. Csomos,H. Thaler Pdf

Hepatology has come of age in the last decades. Biology of the liver has flour ished long before. As the largest homogeneous organ of the body the liver served as useful model in the development of biochemistry and related discip lines. Only gradually were these biological investigations applied to the clinical study of liver disease. This was particularly stimulated by the recognition that in the greater part of the world, the developing countries and what we now call the Third World, liver disease represents a major threat to overall public health. It leads to morbidity and mortality of persons in their productive years from liver cancer, cirrhosis and parasitic disease, particularly, schistosomiasis. Moreover, the growing emphasis on the social impact of diseases focused on disorders of the liver because malnutrition, poverty, and drug addiction contrib ute greatly to their spread. This is compounded by the increase of alcohol abuse, recently on the rise even in the developing countries. Concern with envi ronmental pollution has also raised the interest in liver diseases, in part because the liver acts as a guardian against polluting chemicals and in part because it is considered, possibly to an exaggerated degree, a vulnerable target of such chemicals.

Coverage includes what should be done for patients to limit, avoid, or postpone the impairment in the liver functioning induced by heart diseases and the impairment in the heart functioning induced by liver diseases, on the basis of scientific-exposed evidence and pathophysiology knowledge. This comprehensive, extended review of the medical literature is perfect for researchers interested in the connection between cardiology and hepatology as well as clinicians making therapeutic decisions for patients suffering from heart or liver chronic diseases. Nuclear Hepatology by Gerbail T. Krishnamurthy,S. Krishnamurthy Pdf

Recent advances in technology have greatly impacted upon the practice of nuclear medicine in general, and the approach to hepatobiliary diseases in particular. Empha sis is now placed more on non-invasive functional imaging with quantification, a feature unique to nuclear medicine and not available from any other competing diag nostic imaging modality. By providing a measure of severity of disease, quantification aids not only in timing of therapy but also for testing whether or not the chosen therapy has achieved the intended goals and objectives. This is the first textbook of its kind in the new millennium on nuclear hepatology to fully integrate quantitative physiology with morphology in the diagnosis of hepatobiliary diseases. The conception of nuclear hepatology occurred in the late 1940s with the introduc tion of radiocolloids, whose rate of clearance from blood was used as a measure of hepatic blood flow. Radiocolloid imaging of the liver, introduced first in the mid 1950s, was the most popular nuclear medicine imaging procedure in the 1970s and early 1980s, accounting for nearly 50% of the total workload in many nuclear medicine departments.
