The 2,003-Yard Odyssey by Joe Zagorski Pdf

“It was a season where the impossible became possible. It was a season where the hard to believe became believable.” --Marv Levy, Pro Football Hall of Fame Coach. The 1973 Buffalo Bills made pro football history. They had an offense that broke several important rushing records during that memorable year. And they had a superstar running back by the name of O.J. Simpson, who broke a glass ceiling of sorts by becoming the first man -- and indeed the only man -- to ever rush for more than 2,000 yards in one 14-game regular season. That glory-filled accomplishment provided the celebrated culmination to this epic tale of a week-by-week journey from an initial goal to its triumphant ending. In The 2,003-Yard Odyssey: The Juice, The Electric Company, and an Epic Run for a Record, several members of that Buffalo Bills team recall their memories of that year. They discuss how that 1973 season began with a bunch of question marks, then how a boast by one of their offensive linemen led to a challenge for the whole squad to address. A major focus in this book are the feats of the incomparable O.J. Simpson, who earned pro football fame and glory with his record-breaking 1973 performance. This story recounts how Simpson set a mark that was thought of by most people to be impossible to achieve. It was an odyssey unlike any other in NFL annals, and it is explored in concentrated depth and detail within these pages. Joe Zagorski is a member of the Pro Football Writers of America and the Pro Football Researchers Association. He has written several previous books about various teams and players of the NFL. He is also a contributing writer to the website Pro Football Journal and the administrator of the Facebook page, The NFL in the 1970s. He resides in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Marv Levy, who wrote the foreword for this book, is a coaching legend in both the United States and in Canada. He led the Buffalo Bills to four straight Super Bowl appearances from 1990 to 1993. He is also an honored member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

A Management Odyssey by J. M. Haas Pdf

The Royal Dockyards were Britain's oldest state enterprise and biggest and most complex industrial unit. This book shows how the Admiralty over two centuries struggled to master the intractable problems of organization and management which the dockyards presented. Haas maintains that the dockyards portrayed an image of being inefficient, high-cost producers. These problems were chiefly extreme centralization but, paradoxically, weak control, inadequate coordination of departments, and accounting procedures, unreliable information about production, costs and material, an insufficiently educated and professionalized constructive corps, and an underpaid and slack workforce. An Odyssey in Learning and Perception by Eleanor J. Gibson Pdf

An Odyssey in Learning and Perception documents a fifty-year intellectual expedition in the areas of learning and perception—always with an eye to combining them in a theory of perceptual learning and development, a theory that may be broadly applicable to humans and nonhumans, young and old. In the field of psychology, beginning in the 1950s, Eleanor J. Gibson nearly single-handedly developed the field of perceptual learning with a series of brilliant studies that culminated in the seminal work, Perceptual Learning and Development. An Odyssey in Learning and Perception brings together Gibson's scientific papers, including difficult-to-find or previously unpublished work, along with classic studies in perception and action. Gibson introduces each paper to show why the research was undertaken and concludes each section with comments linking the findings to later developments. A personal essay touches on the questions and concerns that guided her research.

Dog-eared by Duncan Wu Pdf

From Homer to Wordsworth to Gwendolyn Brooks, learn about history's greatest writers and the furry best friends that inspired them. Dogs are at once among the most ordinary of animals and the most beloved by mankind. But what we may not realize is that for as long as we have loved dogs, our poets have been seriously engaged with them as well. In this collection, English professor Duncan Wu digs into the wealth of poetry about our furry friends to show how varied and intimate our relationships with them have been over the centuries. Homer recounts how Odysseus's loyal dog recognizes his master even after his long absence. Thomas Hardy wrote poems from a pooch's perspective, conveying a powerful sense of dogs' innocent and trusting nature. And a multitude of writers, from Lord Byron to Emily Dickinson, have turned to poetry to mourn the loss of beloved dogs. Rich and inviting, Dog-eared is a spellbinding collection of poetic musings about humans and dogs and what they mean to each other.

Conceptualist Landscapes by Paul Cooper Pdf

Conceptual gardens depend on inspiration which is the result of an exhaustive intellectual process. The starting point is an IDEA or stimulus that pushes the design along, rather than observing more conventional styles - whether classical of modernist - into which idea or relationships are fitted. Horticultural considerations, architectural or aesthetic doctrines and practically-based problem-solving are either abandoned or regarded as a means to an end, rather than the end in itself. Idea-driven design, therefore, cannot be taught by a 'rule-of-thumb' methodology. So, the way to design a conceptualist garden is not the theme of this book; nor does it contain 'of-the-peg' solutions for garden and landscape designers. Rather it encourages student and professional designers to think further towards their designed solutions.
