I Sight by James Eliol Mercer Pdf

I Sight: The Power of Perception By: James Eliol Mercer Harrowing and deeply personal, I Sight: The Power of Perception is a memoir detailing the journey of author James Mercer as he comes to the realization that he suffers from a rare genetic eye disorder, one that deteriorates with time and threatens to leave him fully blind by middle age. Starting in early childhood, Mercer recognizes he is different from his peers; his parents never let him stay out past sundown, and often in low light or bright light conditions, the world becomes an indecipherable blur. With adolescence comes a better understanding of his sight deficiency, but it also creates a greater divide between Mercer and other “normal” teenagers, who can freely go to school dances and to local nightly hangouts, getting to experience a freedom Mercer may never know. This memoir tells a story of how disability can bring fear, shame, and isolation, but through the love of family and true friends, one can find acceptance and joy.

Breathe Deep the Passing Wind by Scott Evans Pdf

Saturday afternoon I gathered the necessities for the backyard adventure; sleeping bag, flashlight, firecrackers, and just in case we got attacked by a pack of rabid dogs-a BB gun. In the spirited mind of a boy, Illinois back then was a wilderness. A rugged no man's land of wild beasts and unspeakable dangers. No place for a tenderfoot. Meet Frank Nightlinger, an ordinary, middle-aged man who feels as if the world's best adventures have forever vanished. The gloom begins to lift one night in the company of newfound friends. Between dusk and dawn where light and dark part company, Frank journeys back to the glory of his green years, back to those sun-drenched days of childhood all but forgotten, back to English Lake, Illinois, the way it was-will always be-in Frank's nostalgic imaginings. And back to the night of the Sadie Hawkins dance. Recalling those timeless days of wonder, Frank pieces together a young boy's inviting world of make-believe. It's a small world of backyard adventures, flying hamsters, rotten kids, live nudes, and murder. For more than thirty-five years Frank has hidden the melancholy truth behind the disappearance of English Lake's children. Now he's talking

The Rhetoric of Topics and Forms by Gianna Zocco Pdf

The fourth volume of the collected papers of the ICLA congress “The Many Languages of Comparative Literature” includes articles that study thematic and formal elements of literary texts. Although the question of prioritizing either the level of content or that of form has often provoked controversies, most contributions here treat them as internally connected. While theoretical considerations inform many of the readings, the main interest of most articles can be described as rhetorical (in the widest sense) – given that the ancient discipline of rhetoric did not only include the study of rhetorical figures and tropes such as metaphor, irony, or satire, but also that of topoi, which were originally viewed as the ‘places’ where certain arguments could be found, but later came to represent the arguments or intellectual themes themselves. Another feature shared by most of the articles is the tendency of ‘undeclared thematology’, which not only reflects the persistence of the charge of positivism, but also shows that most scholars prefer to locate themselves within more specific, often interdisciplinary fields of literary study. In this sense, this volume does not only prove the ongoing relevance of traditional fields such as rhetoric and thematology, but provides contributions to currently flourishing research areas, among them literary multilingualism, literature and emotions, and ecocriticism.

The Drive by Yair Assulin Pdf

This acclaimed debut novel takes readers inside the mind of a young and deeply conflicted Israeli soldier: “Israel’s own The Catcher in the Rye”(The Los Angeles Review of Books). The Drive follows the emotional and psychological journey of a young Israeli soldier who is unable to carry out his military service yet terrified of the consequences of leaving the army. As the unnamed soldier and his father drive along the Coastal Highway to meet with a military psychiatrist, Yair Assulin offers a penetrating view of Israeli society, a young man in crisis, and the universal urge to resist regimentation and violence. Weary of being forced to join a larger collective, the soldier yearns for an existence free of politics, the news cycle, and perpetual battle-readiness. But to seek such a life would mean risking the respect of those he loves most. The Drive is a compelling story of an urgent personal quest to reconcile duty, expectations and individual instinct.

Drive, Ego, Object, And Self by Fred Pine Pdf

In this important new book, the noted theoretician Fred Pine provides a synthesis of the four conceptual domains of psychoanalysis: drives, ego functioning, object relations, and self experience. He argues that a focus on the clinical phenomena themselves, and not on the theoretical edifices built around them, readily illuminates the inevitable integration of the several sets of phenomena in each person's unique psychological organization. With superb clarity, Pine shows how one or another or more of these becomes central to a particular individual's psychopathology. Drawing on a wealth of detailed clinical material -- brief vignettes, process notes of sessions, and full analyses -- he vividly demonstrates how a broad multimodel perspective enhances the treatment process, and is, in fact, its natural form. He also applies these ideas to such crucial clinical issues as preoedipal pathology and ego defect, the so-called symbiotic phase, and the mutative factors in treatment. Conceptually elegant and immensely practical, this highly original work is certain to be, in the words of Arnold Cooper, "a guide for theorists and clinicians for many years to come."
