The Acrostic of Jesus by Jonathan Gibson,Timothy Brindle Pdf

Let's read the acrostic of Jesus together To help you to love him, so he is your treasure. We’ll read it, rap it, or sing it—it’s fun! Till Jesus comes back and his kingdom has come. He’s the Alpha and Omega, from A to Z; We pray you see from this book, "Jesus came for me!" The Acrostic of Jesus is fun to read over and over again, and a brilliant tool to help kids gain a greater understanding of Christ. Young readers will learn “Christology”—the study of Jesus. The more we learn about Jesus, the more reasons we have to love him! By giving children an alphabetical list of the names and attributes of Jesus written with a rhyming beat, Jonathan Gibson and Timothy Brindle make The Acrostic of Jesus fun to read and simple to memorize. Each characteristic, A to Z, weaves together a beautiful picture of who Jesus is and why he came to earth. Using the alphabet to teach about God has a rich history in the Bible, especially in the Psalms and Lamentations. Several of the psalms—notably Psalm 119—begin with letters of the Hebrew alphabet, forming an acrostic that spells out the entire alphabet. The authors make learning Christology easy and enjoyable. Their book shows Jesus as he is, not “just to know about him more in our brains, but to know him as the God of glory who reigns.” Illustrated by C. S. Fritz, The Acrostic of Jesus is the second in the series, An Acrostic Theology for Kids, introducing children ages five to eleven to systematic theology uniquely on their age level.

Bible Acrostic Code Mysteries by Carl Armstrong Pdf

There is always an excitement of adventure as we explore the unknown. Scientists making discoveries about DNA, Fractals, quantum mechanics and hidden dimensions of the universe experienced that thrill. Is there a similar Eureka! moment when we find scientific principles embedded in ancient scripture? Those that sailed the vast Atlantic to the "New World" brought back wondrous stories of peoples and lands. Those that ventured into space for the first time and even set foot on the moon captured the imagination of earth's people. Ride along with us as we journey through the largely unexplored land of Bible acrostics. Yes, these acrostic verses with lines that have words in a pre-arranged alphabetical pattern have their own beauty as prose and poetry. Many Bible scholars have acknowledged and appreciated that over the years and centuries. But further exploration reveals these acrostics have a coded pattern in which mysteries of DNA, fractals, hidden dimensions and quantum mechanics are revealed. Are the modern 'discoveries' of science uncovering what was already embedded in scriptures from ancient times?

The IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament by John H. Walton,Victor H. Matthews,Mark W. Chavalas Pdf

Preaching's Preacher's Guide to the Best Bible Reference How can we account for the "Book of the Law" suddenly being discovered during Josiah's renovation of the temple (2 Chron 34:14)? We know from Egypt and Mesopotamia that it was common to seal important documents--including theological documents--in the masonry or foundations of a palace or temple in order to inform a future king who might undertake restoration of the building. What might the psalmist have had in mind when praising God for removing our transgressions "as far as the east is from the west" (Ps 103:12)? In an Egyptian hymn to Amun-Re, the deity is praised for his judgment of the guilty. As a result of the god's discernment the guilty are assigned to the east and the righteous to the west. What is meant by God "weighing the heart" (Prov 21:2)? In Egyptian religious tradition we find the notion of the dead being judged before the gods. As the soul is examined, the dead person's heart is weighed in a scale against a feather symbolizing Truth. If the answers are correct and the heart does not outweigh the feather, the soul may enter the realm of everlasting life. The narratives, genealogies, laws, poetry, proverbs and prophecies of the Old Testament are deeply rooted in history. Archaeologists, historians and social scientists have greatly advanced our knowledge of the ancient world of the Bible. When we illuminate the stories of Abraham or David, the imagery of the Psalms or Proverbs, or the prophecies of Isaiah or Jeremiah with this backlight of culture and history, these texts spring to new life. The unique commentary joins The IVP Bible Background Commentary: New Testament in providing historical, social and cultural background for each passage of the Old Testament. From Genesis through Malachi, this single volume gathers and condenses an abundance of specialized knowledge--making it available and accessible to ordinary readers of the Old Testament. Expert scholars John Walton, Victor Matthews and Mark Chavalas have included along with the fruits of their research and collaboration a glossary of historical terms, ancient peoples, texts and inscriptions maps and charts of important historical resources expanded explanations of significant background issues introductory essays on each book of the Old Testament The IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament will enrich your experience of the Old Testament--and your teaching and preaching from Scripture--in a way that no other commentary can do.

Scribal Culture and the Making of the Hebrew Bible by Karel van der Toorn Pdf

We think of the Hebrew Bible as the Book--and yet it was produced by a largely nonliterate culture in which writing, editing, copying, interpretation, and public reading were the work of a professional elite. The scribes of ancient Israel are indeed the main figures behind the Hebrew Bible, and in this book Karel van der Toorn tells their story for the first time. His book considers the Bible in very specific historical terms, as the output of the scribal workshop of the Second Temple active in the period 500-200 BCE. Drawing comparisons with the scribal practices of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, van der Toorn clearly details the methods, the assumptions, and the material means of production that gave rise to biblical texts; then he brings his observations to bear on two important texts, Deuteronomy and Jeremiah. Traditionally seen as the copycats of antiquity, the scribes emerge here as the literate elite who held the key to the production as well as the transmission of texts. Van der Toorn's account of scribal culture opens a new perspective on the origins of the Hebrew Bible, revealing how the individual books of the Bible and the authors associated with them were products of the social and intellectual world of the scribes. By taking us inside that world, this book yields a new and arresting appreciation of the Hebrew Scriptures.
