It tells the whole story of a first day at the park. It also really shows the diversity of the "rangers" a park has working at it. The book is absolutely engaging and I already want to a few copies for my nieces and nephews as well my friends' kids. Now, are you able to sell that wholesale? The parks I work at have gift shops. And this book would fill a huge need for younger readers and families" --- Derrick, Assistant Park Manager, Flathead Lake State Park, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 1 "It is a unique and intriguing take on junior rangers. Definitely a different perspective than classic junior ranger stories. Kids will be engaged in the story and enjoy that the main character that they are supposed to identify with is earning his confidence in a new park environment and making friends. I like the light JEDI messaging too." --- Cara, Interpretive Program Manager, California State Parks

Leadership Crisis Management: Understanding the 3-Stages of Crisis Management by Mark Villareal Pdf

Leadership is the most important aspect of an organizations success. Leaders lead their teams daily. They communicate the vision, over and over, and point to milestone achievements as well as small wins. They establish the culture, and build a team that supports and protects every aspect of that culture. This is expected from leadership during good times, when things are being executed and success is evident. But what happens when a crisis occurs? Organizations struggle while some even fall apart. I have heard it stated that organizations with poor leadership fail quickly during adversity. Some may make it through, however, many will fail. Strong leadership works during the good times to build a foundation for when a crisis occurs. Remember, a crisis may occur at no fault of the organization. Crisis can be driven internally, as well as externally. But how an organization is prepared, and how they respond, can determine not only their survival, but also their success. There are 3-Stages of Leadership Crisis Management, but unfortunately, when a crisis happens, which is Stage #2, most organizations never considered Stage #1 execution, or just gave small consideration to its importance. Therefore, they already start the crisis from behind, with no foundation, and they are in a scramble. This disarray filters into the organizations next moves where they make decisions on the fly, and therefore display poor execution. The organization then goes through different levels of execution plans, which drives a lack of confidence from all staff. It is our responsibility as leaders to lead, follow, or get out of the way. We must build other leaders to fulfill our vision and drive our culture. We must instill confidence while driving towards success with the belief and ownership from our teams, in which they accept and assume accountability and responsibility. Leadership is influence, as stated by John Maxwell. Leaders build their teams around the influence that followers believe in, and hunger for. Create a team that will not only survive but flourish as the crisis sunsets.

American Military History Volume 1 by Army Center of Military History Pdf

American Military History provides the United States Army-in particular, its young officers, NCOs, and cadets-with a comprehensive but brief account of its past. The Center of Military History first published this work in 1956 as a textbook for senior ROTC courses. Since then it has gone through a number of updates and revisions, but the primary intent has remained the same. Support for military history education has always been a principal mission of the Center, and this new edition of an invaluable history furthers that purpose. The history of an active organization tends to expand rapidly as the organization grows larger and more complex. The period since the Vietnam War, at which point the most recent edition ended, has been a significant one for the Army, a busy period of expanding roles and missions and of fundamental organizational changes. In particular, the explosion of missions and deployments since 11 September 2001 has necessitated the creation of additional, open-ended chapters in the story of the U.S. Army in action. This first volume covers the Army's history from its birth in 1775 to the eve of World War I. By 1917, the United States was already a world power. The Army had sent large expeditionary forces beyond the American hemisphere, and at the beginning of the new century Secretary of War Elihu Root had proposed changes and reforms that within a generation would shape the Army of the future. But world war-global war-was still to come. The second volume of this new edition will take up that story and extend it into the twenty-first century and the early years of the war on terrorism and includes an analysis of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq up to January 2009.

Managing a Land in Motion by National Park Service Pdf

During the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, the Point Reyes Peninsula, forty miles farther north along the San Andreas Fault, shook loose from its temporary moorings to the California coastline and lurched to the northwest by some twenty feet. The powerful quake that terrorized the city also tore through the land and jarred the rural inhabitants of Point Reyes. It was another abrupt step in the peninsula's slow creep from southern to northern California, yielding a piece of land quite divergent from the California mainland to which it is now affixed. Although pressure along the San Andreas Fault continued to build for the remainder of the century, there were no other geologic events of a magnitude that could so drastically alter the land's surface. By contrast, human events since 1906 have significantly altered the peninsula's landscape. In the century following the earthquake, economic, cultural, and political forces gradually reshaped Point Reyes. Possibly the biggest tremor took place in 1962, when Congress created, and President John F. Kennedy signed into law, the Point Reyes National Seashore. At that juncture, the political geography of the land, as a new unit of the National Park Service (NPS), was about to change dramatically. This volume, Managing a Land in Motion: An Administrative History of Point Reyes National Seashore, traces, explains, and analyzes the ideas and events that produced the national seashore and transpired in the forty years that followed.
