The Agreement of Science and Revelation (Classic Reprint) by Jos H. Wythe Pdf

Excerpt from The Agreement of Science and Revelation "The Bible, as the Book of books, is as the sun in the center of all other religious records; the Kings of the Chinese, the Vedas of India, the Zendavesta of the Persians, the Eddas of the Germans, the Jewish Talmud, and the Mohammedan Koran; judging all that is hostile in them, reconciling and bringing into liberty whatever elements of truth they may contain... "As the ideal Cosmos of the revelation of salvation, it forms with the Cosmos of the general revelation of God an organic unity. (Ps. viii., xix., civ.) It is the Key of the World-Cosmos, while this again is the living illustration of the Cosmos of the Scripture." Science and Religion by Pietro Corsi Pdf

Science and Religion assesses the impact of social, political and intellectual change upon Anglican circles, with reference to Oxford University in the decades that followed the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars. More particularly, the career of Baden Powell, father of the more famous founder of the Boy Scout movement, offers material for an important case-study in intellectual and political reorientation: his early militancy in right-wing Anglican movements slowly turned to a more tolerant attitude towards radical theological, philosophical and scientific trends. During the 1840s and 1850s, Baden Powell became a fearless proponent of new dialogues in transcendentalism in theology, positivism in philosophy, and pre-Darwinian evolutionary theories in biology. He was for instance the first prominent Anglican to express full support for Darwin's Origin of Species. Analysis of his many publications, and of his interaction with such contemporaries as Richard Whately, John Henry and Francis Newman, Robert Chambers, William Benjamin Carpenter, George Henry Lewes and George Eliot, reveals hitherto unnoticed dimensions of mid-nineteenth-century British intellectual and social life.

Modern Ideas of Evolution by J. William Dawson Pdf

Excerpt from Modern Ideas of Evolution: As Related to Revelation and Science Why then attempt such a task? The answer is two-fold - general and personal. First, the world of general readers is captivated, dazzled and perplexed by the new philosophy, and greatly needs some clear and intelligible exposition of its nature and tendency, some classification of its variations, and some attempt to explain its agreement or discordance with science and religion. Secondly, the writer of the following pages has of late years been besieged by so many letters and 1nqu1r1es respecting this subject, to which he has incidentally referred in popular books on science, that it becomes necessary in self-defence and to save time to prepare an answer which may meet all demands of this kind.
