The Memory Bible by Gary Small Pdf

Clear, concise, prescriptive steps for improving memory loss and keeping the brain young—from one of the world's top memory experts. Everybody forgets things sometimes—from your keys to your lunch date to the name of an acquaintance. According to Dr. Gary Small, the director of the UCLA Center on Aging, much of this forgetfulness can be eliminated easily through his innovative memory exercises and brain fitness program—now available for the first time in a book. Using Small's recent scientific discoveries, The Memory Bible can immediately improve your mental performance. One of the ten commandments that Dr. Small has pioneered to improve your memory immediately is LOOK, SNAP, CONNECT: 1: LOOK: actively observe what you want to learn 2: SNAP: create a vivid snapshot and memorable image 3: CONNECT: visualize a link to associate images In addition, Dr. Small's comprehensive program includes a "brain diet" of memory-enhancing foods and a list of the most effective drugs, as well as a workbook with a weekly and daily calendar. Remember, as Dr. Small says, "Great memories are not born, they are made."

Why Baby Boomers Turned from Religion by Abby Day Pdf

Mocked, vilified, blamed, and significantly misunderstood - the 'Baby Boomers' are members of the generation of post-WWII babies who came of age in the 1960s. Parents of the 1940s and 1950s raised their Boomer children to be respectable church-attendees, and yet in some ways demonstrated an ambivalence that permitted their children to spurn religion and eventually to raise their own children to be the least religious generation ever. The Baby Boomers studied here, living in the UK and Canada, were the last generation to have been routinely baptised and taken regularly to mainstream, Anglican churches. So, what went wrong - or, perhaps, right? This study, based on in-depth interviews and compared to other studies and data, is the first to offer a sociological account of the sudden transition from religious parents to non-religious children and grandchildren, focusing exclusively on this generation of ex-Anglican Boomers. Now in their 60s and 70s, the Boomers featured here make sense of their lives and the world they helped create. They discuss how they continue to dis-believe in God yet have an easy relationship with ghosts, and how they did not, as theologians often claim, fall into an immoral self-centred abyss. They forged different practices and sites (whether in 'this world' or 'elsewhere') of meaning, morality, community, and transcendence. They also reveal here the values, practices, and beliefs they transmitted to the future generations, helping shape the non-religious identities of Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z.

Baby Boomers? Guide to Healthy Aging by Bob Murphy Pdf

This book takes the reader on a voyage into the aging body, explaining why aging occurs. It deals with specific degenerative changes, such as heart disease, cancer, and dementia, explaining why these things happen and what can be done to ameliorate their effects. This is a book for today's aging population. Anyone 45 years or over will have a special interest in this book. However, its highly readable yet authoritative style makes it of interest also to anyone, outside of that age group, who just wants to understand the aging body. Although there are many books of this genre on the market, few of these combine the sound scientific research with ease of expression and readability, as does this one. For some of the ideas expressed in this book, this is their first unveiling in the public domain, although of course, they have been available in the scientific literature. It has the rare quality of being a book for the average reader and for the scientist and clinician at the same time. Baby boomers' guide to Healthy Aging is a book for everyone.

Soaring Hope by Lynn Thrush,Perry Engle Pdf

See the world with hopeful eyes! Reading the Bible with an open imagination allows you to see the world as God intends. In much of the world the good news of God has been reduced to a personal, private, psychological interaction with God that gets one ready to go to Heaven. This version of the gospel does not envision God’s Kingdom coming on earth and His will being done here as it is in Heaven—thus hope for what might be is aborted. If you believe that Christian faith is largely irrelevant to world events and that Christians have little to offer history, Soaring Hope is a thrilling, clarion call to reality—the reality of life more wonderful than you have ever imagined! When assumptions of what cannot be done on earth are removed, and the Scriptures are allowed to speak their great hope that God is reconciling all things to Himself, then faith arises. Jesus said, “According to your faith may it be to you” (Matt. 9:29). As faith rises, the closer you move toward God. With Soaring Hope, you can snuggle right up into the arms of your heavenly Father—today!
