The Battle for the Resurrection by Norman L. Geisler Pdf

Since the belief in a purely spiritual resurrection of Christ is prevalent in many cults, those involved in countering the rise and growth of cults would benefit greatly from reading this book. Dr. Walter Martin, author of 'The Kingdom of the Cults' Dr. Geisler's book is effectively designed as [an] antidote to the misery of turning Christ's factual resurrection into an event outside the bounds of ordinary history. Dr. John Warwick Montgomery, author of 'History and Christianity' Geisler demonstrates not only the danger in the theology of various cults but also the tendency to discount the bodily resurrection of the Lord, even among evangelicals. It is essential reading for every pastor and student. Dr. Paige Patterson, author of 'Song of Solomon' The proclamation that Jesus was raised in the same physical body in which he died is just as important today as it was in the first century. The book signals such a call to the importance of this doctrine. Dr. Gary Habermas, Distinguished Professor of Apologetics and Philosophy, Liberty University

Resurrection by Daniel Madsen Pdf

Aimed at the general reader with an interest in World War II and the U.S. Navy, this book looks at the massive salvage effort that followed the attack on Pearl Harbor, beginning with the damage control efforts aboard the sinking and damaged ships in the harbor on 7 December 1941 and ending in March 1944 when salvage efforts on the USS Utah were finally abandoned. Dan Madsen describes the Navy's dramatic race to clear the harbor and repair as many ships as possible so they could return to the fleet ready for war. Numerous photographs, many never before published in books for the general public, give readers a real appreciation for the momentous task involved, from the raising of the USS Oglala in 1942 and the USS Oklahoma in 1943 to the eventual dismantling of the above-water portions of the USS Arizona.

The Battle for the Resurrection, Third Edition by Norman L. Geisler Pdf

There is a trojan horse inside the evangelical camp. A battle has broken out, and the enemy is on the inside, not the outside. In fact, the enemy has secretly placed dynamite at the evangelical foundation which supports the whole superstructure of Christian truth. Alarming? Yes, but true. Who is the enemy, and what is the evangelical foundation of truth? The answer emerges from recent significant actions by some evangelical schools and denominations. For example, one of the largest Protestant denominations in the world retains on the faculty of its school a professor who has denied in print that Jesus rose from the tomb in a literal, physical body. He contends Paul was convinced that the Christ who appeared to him be¬longed to another order of existence than the Christ the disciples had known in the flesh. The risen Christ has not a physical but a spiritual body (emphasis mine).A smaller influential denomination that sponsors a well-known evangelical seminary in America has just pronounced orthodox a professor who denies what the Apostle's Creed af-firms: "I believe . . . in the resurrection of the body [flesh]." He wrote of Christ: This suggests that after his resurrection his essential state was one of invisibility and immateriality. It will be spiritual also in that it is . . . neither fleshly nor fleshy. From this point of view the new body is qualitatively and numerically distinct from the old body (emphases mine). These developments signal a new and crucial battle inside the evangelical church-the battle for the resurrection. Fighting for the resurrection is not new; fighting for it inside evangelical circles is. Once it was only liberals who denied the physical, material resurrection; now some evangelicals have joined them. Traditionally, the historicity of the resurrection was denied; now it is the materiality of the resurrection body that is denied.Suppose you were in Jesus' tomb on that first Easter morning. What would you have seen? Jesus' dead body literally come to life and leave the tomb? No. According to this new departure from orthodoxy, you simply would have witnessed Jesus' body vanish before your eyes! In short, you would have observed the annihilation of His material body, not its resurrection. The implications of this new doctrinal departure are far reaching. They threaten the very foundation of our evangeli¬cal faith. The Bible declares that the resurrection is the very heart of the gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-3) and is even a condition of salvation (Rom. 10:9). Thus, to tamper with this foundation of faith is to undermine the whole superstructure of Christian truth. This book is an attempt to sound the trumpet of concern about this current trend in evangelical doctrine. It reveals alarming information about the latest attempts to redefine historic biblical truths to suit contemporary inclinations. It is an earnest plea to alert the body of Christ to one of the most significant doctrinal deviations of our time-one that hits at the very essence of the Christian faith. The Trojan horse is within and the dynamite has been placed. The battle for the resurrection is now within the evangelical church!

The Death and Resurrection of Jefferson Davis by Donald E. Collins Pdf

When the Civil War ended, Jefferson Davis had fallen from the heights of popularity to the depths of despair. In this fascinating new book, Donald E. Collins explores the resurrection of Davis to heroic status in the hearts of white Southerners culminating in one of the grandest funeral processions the nation had ever seen. As schools closed and bells tolled along the thousand mile route, Southerners appeared en masse to bid a final farewell to the man who championed Southern secession and ardently defended the Confederacy.

The Battle for the Keys by Justin Bass Pdf

There has been a lack of serious historical investigation of the famous creedal statement 'Christ descended into hell' that was universally affirmed by the church for the first 1500 years of Church history. This unique book is an in-depth investigation of the history of the doctrine of Christ's descent and how Revelation 1:18 alludes to that significant doctrine. The author demonstrates a real passion and a rigorous argument for Christ's triumphal descent into the underworld in order that he would 'fill all things' (Eph 4:10).

Resurrection in Mark's Literary-Historical Perspective by Paul Fullmer Pdf

Through a careful reading of several ancient texts such as Chariton's Callirhoë, Fullmer identifies an ancient storytelling convention with roots in the Homeric tradition in which narratives of death and revival accentuate significant points in a story. In Mark's Gospel, resurrection narratives accentuate the power of Jesus' ministry (Mark 5:21-43) as well as the ironic disloyalty of Jesus' disciples as their failure is first assured (Mark 9:14-29) and later realized (Mark 16:1-18). The reader of this study will come to appreciate how the irony of the Gospel - a literary feature that is prominent in novelistic literature - is furthered by a novelistic application of the resurrection theme. These observations affirm an identification of the genre of the Gospel as novelistic literature. The study also examines themes of death and revival in texts of the Hebrew Bible, revealing a recurrent constellation of motifs. In these texts, Fullmer convincingly traces a Prophetic resurrection topos with characteristics that are compared to an Epic resurrection topos identified in the Homeric tradition. He then demonstrates how the two topoi merge in later, novelistic texts of Hellenistic Judaism such as the Gospel of Mark, witnessing to a widespread amalgamation of cultures that characterizes the Hellenistic period. This study supports a growing appreciation of the ethnic hybridity of the context that produced Mark's Gospel, contributing to the work of scholars who question an often overdrawn dichotomy between Jewish and Greek culture in the Hellenistic period. Moreover, the significant influence of epic, non-biblical traditions upon the Gospel becomes manifest without an assertion of direct dependence upon Homeric epic. Overall, the study provides a model for the examination of specific themes of the Gospel in light of related ancient literature which enhances modern understanding and appreciation of Mark's story.
