Compulsive Sexual Behaviours by Silva Neves Pdf

Compulsive Sexual Behaviours offers a unique approach to the struggles people face with their out-of-control sexual behaviours. This comprehensive guide is deeply rooted in the science of sexology and psychotherapy, demonstrating why it is time to re-think the reductive concept of ‘sex addiction’ and move towards a more modern age of evidence-based, pluralistic and sex-positive psychotherapy. It is an important manual for ethical, safe and efficient treatment within a humanistic and relational philosophy. This book will be an important guide in helping clients stop their compulsive sexual behaviours as well as for therapists to self-reflect on their own morals and ethics so that they can be prepared to explore their clients’ erotic mind.

Professing Selves by Afsaneh Najmabadi Pdf

Since the mid-1980s, the Islamic Republic of Iran has permitted, and partially subsidized, sex reassignment surgery. In Professing Selves, Afsaneh Najmabadi explores the meaning of transsexuality in contemporary Iran. Combining historical and ethnographic research, she describes how, in the postrevolutionary era, the domains of law, psychology and psychiatry, Islamic jurisprudence, and biomedicine became invested in distinguishing between the acceptable "true" transsexual and other categories of identification, notably the "true" homosexual, an unacceptable category of existence in Iran. Najmabadi argues that this collaboration among medical authorities, specialized clerics, and state officials—which made transsexuality a legally tolerated, if not exactly celebrated, category of being—grew out of Iran's particular experience of Islamicized modernity. Paradoxically, state regulation has produced new spaces for non-normative living in Iran, since determining who is genuinely "trans" depends largely on the stories that people choose to tell, on the selves that they profess.

The Institute of Sexology by Katherine Angel,John Bancroft,Shereen El-Feki,Cynthia A. Graham,Alyce Mahon,Christopher Turner Pdf

A candid exploration of the most publicly discussed of private acts--sex--and those who have devoted their lives to studying it. Looking at key sexologists throughout history including Sigmund Freud, Marie Stopes, and Alfred Kinsey, this book investigates how sex research has shaped our current attitudes toward sexual behavior and identity. From anthropological surveys and questionnaires to ancient sex toys and machines, The Institute of Sexology presents fascinating findings alongside a wide range of rare documents, artworks, photographs, and erotica from the past. Spanning several centuries, the book delves deeply into sexual practices and conventions from all over the world at different time periods. From raunchy ancient carvings to 1920s erotic postcards, The Institute of Sexology proves that kink has been around for longer than you think. The book's compilation of sexually progressive memorabilia opens a visually stimulating discussion on the topics of sexual freedom and fetishism. Through their documentation of courtship rituals from faraway lands and their historical government-sponsored sexual questionnaires, sexologists encourage us to take a critical look at our approach to sexual practices. Sexologists have hugely influenced our attitude toward this most basic of subjects, yet The Institute of Sexology reminds us that while contemporary reservations on sexuality are being loosened, there were times in the past when sex and sexual identity were explored much more openly. Preconceived ideas are thrown out the window in this richly illustrated book that suggests our understanding of sex is in constant evolution. The Institute of Sexology highlights the profound effect that the gathering and analysis of information can have in changing attitudes and lifting taboos.

From Madness to Mindfulness by Jennifer Gunsaullus Pdf

“I learned about the mechanics of female sexual pleasure in my sex ed class.” “I am able to have a difficult conversation with my partner about our relationship.” “I can boldly and openly carry a tampon to the restroom in public.” "I am able to pursue my pleasure and my partner's pleasure during sex." “I am totally comfortable being naked in front of a new partner.” If you disagreed with any of these statements (or all of them), you’re not alone. You are one of many, many women who are feeling the effects of “sexual madness.” According to Jennifer Gunsaullus, PhD, sociologist and sex coach, it’s time for women to break free from the societal baggage they carry in relation to sexual education, expectations, and fulfillment. From Madness to Mindfulness sets out to help women empower themselves to transition out of a state of sexual madness, and into a state of sexual mindfulness—a state in which women can give themselves permission to feel more worthy of love and great sex (and then have it!). Dr. Jenn will guide you through the process of assessing levels of “mis-education” in regard to relationships, communication, sex, passion, desire, and body image, and integrating mindfulness practices to overcome your own personal “madness.” Replete with personal anecdotes and a wide array of client stories, along with guided questions, action items, and tips to create a personal Reinventing Sex plan, Dr. Jenn will help you to become a thriving sexual being… on your own terms.

Sex at Dawn by Christopher Ryan,Cacilda Jetha Pdf

The 10th-anniversary edition of the book that radical re-evaluates the origins and nature of human sexuality. Since Darwin’s day, we’ve been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science — as well as religious and cultural institutions — has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man’s possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman’s fertility and fidelity. In this groundbreaking book, however, Christopher Ryan and Cacilda Jethá argue that human beings evolved in egalitarian groups that shared food, child care, and, often, sexual partners. Weaving together evidence from anthropology, archaeology, primatology, anatomy, and psychosexuality, the authors show how far from human nature monogamy really is. With intelligence and humour, Ryan and Jethá explain how our promiscuous past haunts our contemporary struggles. They explore why many people find long-term fidelity so difficult; why sexual passion tends to fade even as love deepens; why homosexuality persists in the face of standard evolutionary logic; and what the human body reveals about the prehistoric origins of modern sexuality. Shocking, enlightening, and ultimately inspiring, Sex at Dawn offers a revolutionary understanding of why we live and love as we do.

Histories of Sexology by Alain Giami,Sharman Levinson Pdf

Histories of Sexology: Between Science and Politics takes an interdisciplinary and reflexive approach to the historiography of sexology. Drawing on an intellectual history perspective informed by recent developments in science and technology studies and political history of science, this book examines specific social, cultural, intellectual, scientific and political contexts that have given shape to theories of sexuality, but also to practices in medicine, psychology, education and sexology. Furthermore, it explores various ways that theories of sexuality have both informed and been produced by sexologies—as scientific and clinical discourses about sex—in Western countries since the 19th century.

Magnificent Sex by Peggy J. Kleinplatz,A. Dana Ménard Pdf

Winner of the 2021 SSTAR Consumer Book Award! What makes sex magnificent? What are the qualities of extraordinary erotic intimacy and what are the elements that help to bring it about? Is great sex the stuff that people remember nostalgically from the "honeymoon" phase of their relationships, or can sex improve over time? Magnificent Sex is based on the largest, in-depth interview study ever conducted with people who are having extraordinary sex. It gathers the nuggets for remarkable sex from the "experts", distilling them into an attainable blueprint for ordinary lovers who want to make erotic intimacy grow over the course of a lifetime. Looking at factors including individual and relational qualities, empathic communication and the myths and realities of magnificent sex, this book offers accessible and evidence-based guidance for lovers and therapists alike. It is replete with frank and often humorous interviews with straight and LGBTQ individuals and couples, those who are "vanilla" and "kinky", monogamous and consensually non-monogamous and healthy and chronically ill. This illuminating book explores the implications of the findings to develop a model that effectively tackles the common problems of low desire and frequency. The "cure" for low desire is to create desirable sex!
