The Book of Buried Treasure by Ralph D. Paine Pdf

Excerpt from The Book of Buried Treasure: Being a True History of the Gold, Jewels, and Plate of Pirates, Galleons, Etc;, Which Are Sought for to This Day It was only the other day that a party of restless young Americans sailed in the Old racing yacht M ay flower bound out to seek the wreck of a treasure gal leon on the coast of Jamaica. Their vessel was dis masted and abandoned at sea, and they had all the adventure they yearned for. One Of them, Roger Derby of Boston, of a family famed for its deep-water mariners in the Olden times, ingenuously confessed some time later, and here you have the spirit Of the true treasure-seeker. The Book of Buried Treasure author: Ralph Delahaye Paine "No, they think they will, but they generally forget the marks or else they die. Anyway, it lays there a long time and gets rusty; and by and by somebody finds an old yellow paper that tells how to find the marks, --a paper that's got to be ciphered over about a week because it's mostly signs and hy'roglyphics."

The Book of Buried Treasure by Ralph Delahaye Paine Pdf

The language has no more boldly romantic words than pirate and galleon and the dullest imagination is apt to be kindled by any plausible dream of finding their lost treasures hidden on lonely beach or tropic key, or sunk fathoms deep in salt water. In the preface of that rare and exceedingly diverting volume, "The Pirates' Own Book," the unnamed author sums up the matter with so much gusto and with so gorgeously appetizing a flavor that he is worth quoting to this extent: "With the name of pirate is also associated ideas of rich plunder, caskets of buried jewels, chests of gold ingots, bags of outlandish coins, secreted in lonely, out of the way places, or buried about the wild shores of rivers and unexplored sea coasts, near rocks and trees bearing mysterious marks indicating where the treasure was hid. And as it is his invariable practice to secrete and bury his booty, and from the perilous life he leads, being often killed or captured, he can never revisit the spot again, therefore immense sums remain buried in those places and are irrevocably lost. Search is often made by persons who labor in anticipation of throwing up with their spade and pickaxe, gold bars, diamond crosses sparkling amongst the dirt, bags of golden doubloons and chests wedged close with moidores, ducats and pearls; but although great treasures lie hid in this way, it seldom happens that any is recovered."

The Story of the Treasure-Seekers by Edith Nesbit Pdf

The Story of the Treasure-Seekers byEdith Nesbit This is the story of the different ways we looked for treasure, and I think when you have read it you will see that we were not lazy about the looking. There are some things I must tell before I begin to tell about the treasure-seeking, because I have read books myself, and I know how beastly it is when a story begins, "'Alas!" said Hildegarde with a deep sigh, "we must look our last on this ancestral home"'-and then some one else says something-and you don't know for pages and pages where the home is, or who Hildegarde is, or anything about it. Our ancestral home is in the Lewisham Road. It is semi-detached and has a garden, not a large one. We are the Bastables. ... We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic work, and that for you it becomes an enriching experience.

The Story of the Treasure Seekers by Edith Nesbit Pdf

This is the story of the different ways we looked for treasure, and I think when you have read it you will see that we were not lazy about the looking. This novel, the first in what is often called the "Bastable Saga" begins the story of these six children - Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noel, and Horace Octavius Bastable. When their mother dies and their father's business fails, the children embark on a series of adventures. Says Oswald (the book's narrator) at the start: "I'll tell you what, we must go and seek for treasure: it is always what you do to restore the fallen fortunes of your House."
