The Canadian Entomologist, Vol. 7 by Entomological Society of Canada Pdf

Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, Vol. 7: January, 1876 As I mentioned at the outset, you have done me the great honour of electing me your President for five years in succession 3 while I thank you most cordially for your kindness and consideration so repeatedly shown to me, I feel that it is only reasonable that I should now make way for some one else, who may be able to devote more time and energy to the interests of our Society, and be of more real use to it than I have latterly been capable of. I beg, therefore, to resign into your hands the office that you have so long honoured me with 3 at the same time I desire to say that I shall continue always to have the welfare of the Society at heart, and that I shall ever be ready and willing to do all that lies in my power to advance its best interests. Again Offering you my respectful thanks. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1922, Vol. 54 In the case of this species, the length of flight coupled with the fact that 'hoppers often leave succulent fields. Has an important bearing on control measures. It means that when the residents of some one territory have been delinquent in control measures, and those of some other territory have waged a successful campaign, the parties of the first instance may cause the reinfestation of the fields of the parties of the second instance and upset some of their good work. Also farmers in infested areas do not well understand the outcome of such an extensive migration and either grasp at the hope that all their 'hoppers will leave or believe that poisoning is useless. Thus a control campaign may be demoralized at just the time operations should be continued with intensity. Observations on Flight and Relation of Weather Conditions to Such. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1904, Vol. 36 The readers of the Canadian Entomologist will be pleased, we feel sure, to see the good portrait given herewith of the Rev. G. W. Taylor, who, during the last twenty years, has done such excellent work in almost all lines of Natural History in British Columbia. Born in 1854, in Derby, England, where he received his education, Mr. Taylor, after leaving school, studied mining engineering, but in 1882 came out to Canada and went at once to British Columbia, where he had relatives. Although engaged for a short time in farming, he began almost immediately to study for the ministry, and in 1884 was ordained by the Bishop of Columbia. Since that time, with the exception of two years, from September, 1888, to August, 1890, which he spent in Ottawa as rector of the joint parishes of St. Barnabas and Holy Trinity, he has been in charge of parishes in British Columbia, and at the present time is rector of the Church of England at Wellington, B. C. From boyhood Mr. Taylor has been keenly interested in Natural Science, and from his enthusiasm and industry has accomplished much, not only in doing original work of importance in several lines of Zoology and Palaeontology, but in constantly encouraging and assisting others with whom he came in contact, to take Up and enjoy, with him his favourite studies. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1889, Vol. 21 This list is presented as a slight contribution to our knowledge of the geographical distribution of the North American Hemiptera. As our litera ture of this order is by no means overburdened with ifaunal lists, I trust that the present will find sufficient excuse for its appearance in the matter it contains. I have made every effort to have the list as accurate and com plete as possible, under the circumstances. The material was accumulated during a brief collecting tour in the Muskoka Lake District of Canada, in the interval from July 25th to August 3rd, 1888. The particular localities being in the vicinity of Bracebridge, along the Muskoka River to the Lake, and some of the adjoining islands, and along the road from Bracebridge to South F ails.
