The Canadian Medical Review, Vol. 1 by W. H. B. Aikins Pdf

Excerpt from The Canadian Medical Review, Vol. 1: January 1, 1895 I have modified the canula and attachment of the Potain aspirator bv enlarging the lumen to permit the easy passage of No. 3 drainage tubing. I have had the tube of the canula constructed of platinum. It may thus be used with the positive pole and I have added a second stop-cock, which renders it independent of the reservoir. As the use of chemical solutions corrodes metal parts, I employ for injection a second bottle, with tubes of glass leading to and from it. I have also furnished it with a third tube to facilitate the introduction of the solution. Provision is also made for emptying the sac after treatment without polluting the contents of reservoir. Excerpt from The Canadian Medical Review, Vol. 4: July, 1896 The patient's surroundings should be clean to a nicety, and the room selected for accouchement should be large, cheerful and well ventilated. The doctor dwelt at length on the absolute necessity of the physician's hands and nails being thoroughly aseptic, and deplored the habit of careless washing of the hands, which should be well washed in hot water and soap first, and then held for some minutes in the antiseptic solution. He said that as few vaginal examinations should be made as possible. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Population Health in Canada by Ivy Lynn Bourgeault,Ronald Labonté,Corinne Packer,Vivien Runnels Pdf

Drawing on the latest research and statistics, Population Health in Canada presents critical analyses of the most pressing population health equity issues in Canada. Comprising research papers and briefs written by some of the top scholars in the field, this edited collection illustrates fundamental concepts of population health, including social inclusion and exclusion, health as a public good, and the social determinants of health. The editors’ careful selection of the framework and contents has been designed to encourage a social justice lens to address health inequities that are systemic, socially produced, and unfair. Sections on methodological tools, population health equity, community action, and current issues introduce students to the components needed to understand population health in Canada. With an emphasis on theory, methods, interventions, policy, and knowledge translation, this timely volume is well suited to a variety of courses on population health in social science and health studies programs.
