A Cat With a Fiddle by Lydia Adamson Pdf

Available Digitally for the First Time A holiday in rural Massachusetts seems like just the thing for talented actress turned cat-sitter Alice Nestleton—until a killer strikes a sour note… Alice Nestleton has recently died… at the box office, that is. Her latest play bombed, and the critics gleefully skewered her performance in the reviews. Instead of going to the dogs, Alice has returned to a kinder, gentler profession—cat-sitting. Her current assignment is to deliver an adorable Scottish-fold kitty named Lulu to her owner at a remote Massachusetts artists’ colony. To Alice’s relief, the woods are lovely, dark, and deep—too bad the visiting world-famous quartet isn’t as charming…especially when their handsome ladykiller of a pianist turns up murdered. Alice may have a tin ear, but she possesses a sharp eye for suspects and a nose for clues. Now, the paw prints are on the wall, and Alice has a good idea whodunit. But the local police won’t listen, and soon the intrepid cat-lady is baiting a dangerous mousetrap for a killer who’s not just pussy-footing around… Be sure to look for A Cat Tells Two Tales, available October 2012 in trade paperback from Obsidian.

Funky Nassau by Timothy Rommen Pdf

This book examines the role music has played in the formation of the political and national identity of the Bahamas. Timothy Rommen analyzes Bahamian musical life as it has been influenced and shaped by the islands’ location between the United States and the rest of the Caribbean; tourism; and Bahamian colonial and postcolonial history. Focusing on popular music in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, in particular rake-n-scrape and Junkanoo, Rommen finds a Bahamian music that has remained culturally rooted in the local even as it has undergone major transformations. Highlighting the ways entertainers have represented themselves to Bahamians and to tourists, Funky Nassau illustrates the shifting terrain that musicians navigated during the rapid growth of tourism and in the aftermath of independence.

Later Operetta 2 by Orly Leah Krasner Pdf

The most successful American-born composer of operetta at the end of the nineteenth century was Reginald de Koven. The work reprinted in this volume, The Highwayman, is arguably his best work, although he is better known for the earlier Robin Hoodwixh its evergreen wedding ballad "Oh Promise Me." (Robin Hood is available as a reprint in the 1990 volume American Opera and Music for the Stage, in the G.K. Hall series Three Centuries of American Music.) The editor of this volume, Orly Leah Krasner, is a leading scholar of de Koven’s music. She teaches at the City University of New York, and her Ph.D. dissertation, "Reginald de Koven (1859-1920) and American Comic Opera at the Turn of the Century," is also from that university. Her introduction places the work in the tenor of contemporary critical reaction, and lists the sources available for further study. The Highwayman is one of the few complete operettas of its era for which we are fortunate enough to have original performing materials in the composer’s own hand. As the penultimate volume (number 15) in this series, de Koven’s work of 1897 contrasts with two works of the previous year, Walter Damrosch’s opera The Scarlet Letter (volume 16) and John Philip Sousa’s operetta El Capitan (volume 14).

Mozlandia by Melissa Mora Hidalgo Pdf

Morrissey is a popular music icon. The former singer of the influential Manchester band The Smiths is arguably one of the most intriguing and popular, if not polarizing, iconic figures of popular culture. But this book is not about Morrissey. This book is about his fans, their creative expressions of fandom, and their contributions to Morrissey’s worldwide popularity. Specifically, this book is about the subculture of Moz fandom as a US-Mexican borderland phenomenon. Mozlandia—Morrissey fans from the Midlands to the Borderlands.
