The Christian's Duty to Reject Christmas by Thomas Mockett,C. Matthew McMahon Pdf

Mockett’s argument in this work is directed to well-meaning Christians who are defiling the Regulative Principle – that God alone determines the manner and time in which sinners are to approach him. Writing against the, “observation of Christ’s nativity,” Mockett shows the Christian how he is to reject, whole-heartily, adding Christ into Christmas as a religious or worship observance. Mr. Mockett is not going to deal with taking Christ out of Christmas. Instead, he is going to painstakingly demonstrate the ill-use of trying to reclaim Christ for Christmas as an unholy venture. He will show that it is a detestable, sinful practice to put Christ back into Christmas since men have no warrant from God to do so. Though they do this in pretense of honoring Christ in a day of worship, and do so with a sincere heart, as Mockett shows, “Good intentions and well meanings cannot justify any unwarrantable practice.” Mockett’s treatment of this issue is clear and well documented. The student of Scripture and historical theology cannot but come away with believing that reclaiming Christ in Christmas is truly a violation of God’s word, and a sinful practice which has harmed the church throughout its history.

The Christian's Duty to Reject Christmas by Thomas Mockett,C. Matthew McMahon Pdf

Thomas Mockett (or Mocket) (1602-1670), was a studious theologian, Reformed preacher of the Gospel, and scholarly puritan divine during the era of Westminster. Edmund Calamy describes him as, "a very pious, and humble man."Mockett's argument in this work is directed to well-meaning Christians who are defiling the Regulative Principle - that God alone determines the manner and time in which sinners are to approach him. A Jolly Folly? by Allan J. Macdonald Pdf

“Stop the war on Christmas!” This is a common Christian complaint directed toward those perceived to be secularizing the festive season. However, many Christians forget that the modern festive season was a secular invention and that the “war” on Christmas was initiated by their spiritual forefathers, upon whose shoulders today’s biblically sound churches stand. Should then the Christian endorse Christmas with joy or reject it as folly? If you hold to a Reformed theology, is “liberty of conscience” a credible principle to employ in the endorsement of Christmas in public worship? This book addresses these and other questions objectively, acknowledging the arguments on both sides. This thoughtfully illustrated book uses a historical framework to trace the evolution of Christmas from its ancient genesis into the modern era, identifying the contexts and motives that shaped opinion and practice in the Protestant Church, while also exposing as pure myth much that is often accepted as biblical fact. Abounding with intriguing detail, this book compels the reader to consider the negative effect Christmas has upon biblical doctrine and to contemplate the difficulties associated with the conclusion many arrive at, namely that Christmas meets with the approval of the Lord Jesus.

Christmas by C I Y Publishing,James a. Fowler Pdf

Throughout Christian history Christians have had diverse attitudes about the remembrance and celebration of the advent of Jesus. Even today some Christians find great joy in celebrating Christmas and its remembrance of Jesus' birth, while other Christians reject such celebration, reminding us that the Christians of the first three centuries did not do so. In Christmas: Its History and Meaning, Jim Fowler considers the historical background of Jesus' incarnation, the theological implications of "the Word became flesh," the cultural origins of modern Christmas celebrations, and the personal, spiritual intents of Jesus' birth and life.

Outline of Christian Ethics by Kwing Hung Pdf

Outline of Christian Ethics is a Q&A book on moral questions of today. The book includes a large number of topics discussed in ethics, including personal ethics––birth, death, sex, work, wealth, the supernatural––and social ethics––politics, society, human rights, family, international issues. Moral questions are analyzed from an evangelical Christian viewpoint. The emphasis is on explaining ethical principles from the Bible, but arguments on both sides of the questions are examined. Because the author is a statistician, positions taken by the book are frequently supported by actual data from recent statistical surveys. “Outline of Christian Ethics is a valuable guide for Christians to live a moral life. The book is a rich source of information––better than most books on ethics that we can find in bookstores” (Rev. Dr. Jason Yeung, principal, Canadian Chinese School of Theology at Ambrose Seminary [Calgary]). “Dr. Hung humbly called his book an ‘outline’; yet the extent of the book is broad and deep. Dr. Hung does not use purely rational and argumentative methods; he employs the method of lighthearted conversation with the reader. Every chapter is introduced with some stories to stir up the interest of the reader. Furthermore, statistical facts are added to strengthen the persuasive power of the points made. The wealth of information contained in this book will help busy pastors and Christians find the necessary information quickly” Rev. Dr. Peter Au, principal, Canadian Chinese School of Theology at Tyndale Seminary [Toronto]).

More Than a Prophet by Emir Fethi Caner,Ergun Mehmet Caner Pdf

For the world's one billion Muslims, Jesus is a prophet. A highly respected prophet, but one of many throughout history. For Christians, Jesus is more than a prophet. He alone is God incarnate, Lord and Savior. And therein lies the most profound difference between the two faiths. Based upon the authors' extensive dialogues and debates with skeptical, angry, and interested Muslims, liberal Christians, and mainstream journalists, More Than a Prophet answers nearly 150 questions about Islamic and Christian faith. Sympathetic to Muslim concerns yet uncompromising in its portrayal of historic Christian truth, More Than a Prophet is an indispensable handbook for Christians who want to share their faith with sensitivity and intellectual honesty. It is also a helpful introductory resource for those seeking to understand Jesus. - Back cover.

Struggling with Evangelicalism by Dan Stringer Pdf

When evangelicals make a mess, who cleans it up? Many today are discarding the evangelical label, even if they still hold to the historic tenets of evangelicalism. But evangelicalism is a space, not just a brand, and living in that space is complicated. As a lifelong evangelical who happens to be a biracial Asian/White millennial, Dan Stringer has felt both included and alienated by the evangelical community and has wrestled with whether to stay or go. He sits as an uneasy evangelical insider with ties to many of evangelicalism's historic organizations and institutions. Neither "everything's fine" nor "burn it all down," Stringer offers a thoughtful appreciation of evangelicalism's history, identity, and strengths, but also lament for its blind spots, toxic brokenness, and complicity with injustice. From this complicated space, we can move forward with informed vision rather than resignation and with hope for our future together.

REAL STORY OF XMAS by W. Cleon Skousen Pdf

Has the real meaning of Christmas become lost? How do you bring the true meaning of the holiday back to the season? In an era when Christmas has become little more than a frenzy of exhausting and expensive consumerism, many Christians are searching for a way to reclaim the deeper meaning of the celebration for their children and family. New York Times best-selling author W. Cleon Skousen's The Real Story of Christmas reconnects the reader with what Christmas is supposed to be: peace, goodwill, and the story of Jesus Christ. Skousen provides historical context and a clear explanation of the events, the places, and the people involved in the birth of Jesus--Mary and Joseph, Zacharias and Elizabeth, Simeon and Anna, the three wise men, and the Roman occupying army. Those seeking the Christ Child, for both good and evil, are brought to life with historical context and description. It's the real story of Christmas, the one that has lived for 2,000 years to change the hearts of billions toward fostering true peace on earth and good will toward men. At the end of the book are the verses from Luke 2 that give the original biblical account of Jesus's birth, a perfect passage for family reading on Christmas Eve. The Real Story of Christmas begins in a humble little village, long besieged by warriors, with little hope of escape--until one night in early spring when there was born a babe in a manger whose life and mission would literally change everything

Who were the Magi? In, "In Defense of Christmas," Steve Lagoon makes the case that the Christmas holiday is in keeping with the joyful tone of the Gospel accounts of Christ's birth. He responds to common objections to the celebration of Christmas, while showing that Christians have celebrated the birth of Christ from apostolic times to the present. The reader will be inspired by the section on the customs of Christmas around the world including fascinating facts about Saint Nicholas and Christmas Trees! This book will be a Christmas blessing for years to come!Christmas is a beloved holiday for millions around the world. Yet, some Christians have objections to the celebration of Christmas. In this book Steve Lagoon will respond to the critics of Christmas, showing that Christmas is in the true spirit of the gospel narratives and the joy they express concerning the birth of Jesus Christ. This book is a biblical, theological, and historical examination of the Christmas holiday. Steve Lagoon shows that the claim that the Christmas Holiday was an innovation borrowed from paganism to be false. Indeed, the fact is that Christians have celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ since apostolic times. In the first section of the book, Steve reviews the gospel nativity narratives including in depths discussions of the virgin birth, Luke's census, the Magi, and the star of Bethlehem, and more. In section two, Steve examines the chronology of Christ's birth, exploring the timing of Christ's birth, including the possibility that our Lord was actually born in the winter, even on 25 December. In section three, Steve shows how the Christmas celebration began, growing out of the earlier Epiphany Holiday. In section four, Steve refutes that common allegation that the early church borrowed the Christmas holiday by "Christianizing" earlier pagan holidays like the Sol Invictus and the Saturnalia. Section five is an A to Z guide to the customs of Christmas including in-depth discussions concerning the origin and biblical basis for Christmas trees, Saint Nicholas, and the Star Boys. In the final section, Steve shares some of the beautiful and inspirational Christmas customs and music around the world. This book will build your appreciation of the Christmas holiday and be a blessing to your whole family. And of course, it makes a great Christmas gift!!
