Citadel of Fire by Marc Summerlott,Bob Bledsaw Pdf

We, too, share your desire to rid the world of the arrogance of the Pureblood wizards. But you are too late. The wizards have obtained the relic they long have sought. With it they will have power unimaginable to the fools who stride about in the shadow of their tower. We will send aid, but we expect payment. Do not think to challenge us. You know not what you deal with. Our messengers will contact you. Ensure that they are not delayed in their return... Just outside the rough-hewn timber hamlet of Aztlan lies the ancient and mysterious Citadel of Fire: an embodiment of evil and destruction since its stones were first laid. Inside the town of Aztlan, itself a nest of intrigue and danger, there lies an evil temple dedicated to an ancient god to which the masters of the Citadel pay homage. Together the denizens of the Temple and Citadel have made plans to overthrow their rival powers and subjugate the innocents of the land. Meanwhile, just outside of town, sits a not-so-quiet graveyard with a sinister and deadly secret. Are you brave enough to explore the secrets of Aztlan and put an end to the evil that is The Citadel of Fire?

Culturgeschichtliche Novellen by W. H. Riehl Pdf

Excerpt from Culturgeschichtliche Novellen It is as in some sort an introduction to such a study of German as I have endeavoured to indicate, so far as this is possible under the limitations of a commentary on a given text, that the present volume has been prepared. The notes are numerous and copious, but I trust they will commend themselves as not of the kind that paralyse the student's own mental activity by superseding the necessity for it; but rather as stimulating it by presenting suitable material in a workable form, and furnishing guidance in such a way as to lead to future independence. The material has of course been supplied in the first place by the text itself. This has been to a small extent supplemented, but chiefly elucidated and illustrated, by matter drawn from sources many of them inaccessible to the English reader. A not inconsiderable element may lay some claim to origi nality, and perhaps this will be the most valuable part of the book to the real student, because treating from the objective standpoint of the foreigner, specially of the Englishman, matters of idiomatic difficulty upon which only scattered hints are to be found in sources English or German. I may refer particularly to the notes on the particles, on the exact force, as felt in the original, of words like erst, z'ibrzlgms, vol lends, &c., and of certain familiar but peculiar modes of con ception and expression which are too completely ingrained in the consciousness of a native for him easily to make them the objects of analysis or of explanation to others. Greek Prose Composition (Classic Reprint) by Henry Carr Pearson Pdf

Excerpt from Greek Prose Composition Part I contains, in graded lessons, the principal points of Greek syntax, the unusual and non-essential being purposely omitted. These lessons are designed for use at the beginning of the second year's study of Greek, thereby serving as a partial review of the first year's work and as an introduction to the composition work in connection with the reading of Xenophon's Anabasis. Part II contains short, simple English sentences, based on Books I - IV of the Anabasis. These should be used daily in connection with the reading of the text. Part III contains connected English prose, based on Books I - IV of the Anabasis. This is carefully graded, so that the stu dent who performs faithfully the work outlined here will be able to pass the entrance examination of any of the American colleges. The method of writing Greek at sight used in this book needs a word of explanation. It is the outgrowth of the author's personal experience in the classroom, and his belief that the best results can be obtained only by systematic practice in connection with the regular work. A Book of Cambridge Verse (Classic Reprint) by Ernest Edward Kellett Pdf

Excerpt from A Book of Cambridge Verse Nevertheless, after all deductions have been made, how much true poetry is yet left! He must be hard to please who cannot find intense enjoyment in the Eclogues of Phineas Fletcher, in Cowley's epitaph on Harvey, in the Miltonic stanzas of Gray's Installation Ode, in a score of other pieces, grave, quaint, or classical in their allusive ness of phrasing. Especially grateful must we be to the number of poets, of exquisite feeling and easy mastery of form, who during the last fifty or sixty years have enriched the language with delicate and elegant verse, from which it has been only too difficult to choose because its quantity is so great and its merit so even. Of this we trust we have given a tolerably adequate selection but it would have been easy to multiply it fourfold. The Citadel of Thought (Classic Reprint) by Mary Eveline Parkhurst Pdf

Excerpt from The Citadel of Thought The beautiful town of Le Claire, sheltered by the hills and washed by the waves of the Mississippi river was my birthplace. The yard surrounding our home was made a restful retreat by choice fruit trees, Shrubbery and flowers of my mother's planting. Walking alone in this garden of beauty, watching the unfolding fruit and flowers, or sitting on the steps leading from the garden wall to the river, watching the fleeting clouds or bright stars reflected from the water; I would talk to my Creator and then I would talk to the trees, flowers and river; I would say, Some day I will write a book and tell the beautiful thoughts whispered to me. Every breeze that sighed thru the trees or every wave that kissed the rocky shore was a voice speaking to me. Every sunbeam playing in the orchard or every silvery tread of a moonbeam was melody to me, and my heart was filled with gladness and joy as I walked alone dreaming and hopeful of that some day when I might write a book. The Road to Frontenac (Classic Reprint) by Samuel Merwin Pdf

Excerpt from The Road to Frontenac Capturing a hunting party by treachery and shipping them off to the King's galleys was a bold stroke, - too bold, perhaps. Governor Frontenac would never have done this; he knew the Iroquois temper too well. Governor la Barre, for all his bluster, would not have dared. It was certain that this new governor, Denonville, was not a coward; but as Menard reflected, going back over his own fifteen years of frontier life, he knew that this policy of brute force would be sorely tested by the tact and intrigue of the Five Nations. His own part in the capture little disturbed him. He had obeyed orders. He had brought the band to the citadel at Quebec without losing a man (saving the poor devil who had strangled him self with his own thongs at La Gallette). Doctors in Fiction by Borys Surawicz,Beverly Jacobson Pdf

Medical practitioners are key actors in many well-known works of fiction and literature, presenting a vital insight into the social, medical, scientific and ethical concerns of their authors and readers. However, medical professionals are often left little time to explore such cultural perceptions of their profession, and by extension themselves, despite the extent to which the views of their patients and society have been - and still are - shaped by them. Doctors in Fiction explores and analyzes representations of medical practitioners in fiction, encompassing classic and contemporary literature, popular fiction, and authors from many nations and traditions. These include among others: Albert Camus A* Anton Checkhov A* Robertson Davies A* Graham Greene A* George Eliot A* Ian McEwan A* F. Scott Fitzgerald A* Jaroroslav Hasek A* Henrik Ibsen A* John Irving A* Patrick O'Brien A* Boris Pasternak A* Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn This book will be of interest to those with an interest in the medical humanities, and to students of cultural history and literature. It will also be of particular interest to medical practitioners of all kinds who enjoy literature and wish to understand and reflect upon wider perceptions of their profession.
