The Collection of Short Stories for Children and Young Adults by Joseph Pagan Pdf

I originally began creating childrens stories when I was a child myself. After I had grown up and was on a camping trip with three young children, they asked me to tell them a story. That gave rise to this book. The first five stories in this collection were written for children and with the interaction and help of children. The children suggested characters, places, and other elements that added to the completion of these stories. It is my hope that a lot of sleepyheads will enjoy them. The other six stories were written later. They are targeted for young adults and are, for the most part, adaptations of my unpublished screenplays. These I wrote while studying filmmaking in college. All the stories in this book were meant to be enjoyed and, maybe, give the readers a chuckle or two, some fun and exciting reading!

The Collected Short Stories of Roald Dahl by Roald Dahl Pdf

(Book Jacket Status: Jacketed) The only hardcover edition of Roald Dahl's stories for adults, the "Collected Stories" amply showcases his singular gifts as a fabulist and a born storyteller. Later known for his immortal children's books, including "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, "and "The BFG, "Dahl""also had a genius for adult short fiction, which he wrote throughout his life. Whether fictionalizing his dramatic exploits as a Royal Air Force pilot during World War II or concocting the ingeniously plotted fables that were dramatized on television as "Tales of the Unexpected," Dahl was brilliant at provoking in his readers the overwhelming desire to know what happens next--and at satisfying that desire in ways that feel both surprising and inevitable. Filled with devilish plot twists, his tales display a tantalizing blend of macabre humor and the absurdly grotesque. From "The Landlady," about an unusual boardinghouse that features a small but very permanent clientele, to "Pig," a brutally funny look at vegetarianism, to "Man from the South," in which a fanatical gambler does his betting with hammer, nails, and a butcher's knife, Dahl's creations amuse and shock us in equal measure, gleefully reminding us of what might lurk beneath the surface of the ordinary.

Something to Hang on to by Beverley Brenna Pdf

In Something to Hang On To award-winning author Beverley Brenna constructs a diverse cast of quirky and honest young teens in tough times. In varied settings characters battle through adversity: a fear of heights, family violence, the physical cage of Down syndrome, ossifying muscular dystrophy, the artistic world of autism, and even a toe caught in the vacuum. In these positive fictions, teens find ways to overcome their obstacles by capturing lasting resolutions from within. In "Foil Butterflies" a creative boy with a rare form of autism escapes to his tree house to write poetry and personify gum wrappers. Set in pre-colonial Canada, "Gift of the Old Wives" is a story about a young Cree girl with a unique gift, which allows her to predict an impending Blackfoot attack on her tribe. In "Finding Your Voice" an exceptional and unconditional friendship is made between an insular foster child and a girl immobilized by muscular dystrophy. In "One of the Guys" Brenna employs rare writing mechanics in a first person narration of a boogey boarding teen boy who finds solace in ocean waves. By using effective problem solving to overcome the seemingly impossible, these characters become encouraging examples for all teens to look within for resolve and to reach out to others in need. The twelve stories that comprise Something to Hang On To vary in time, place, and voice offering pathos as well as zany humour, creating maximum appeal for their reading audience.

However, it's a fact that when a person - adult or child - is morally strong, they will do good even in the worst of circumstances. Yet, a person will only be morally strong if they have been taught morals in their childhood. So, it's important to train our children to have a strong character and to be able to live in this corrupt world without having to compromise their values. This book is equipped with some of the good values that children need to be aware of and practice in their daily life or they might turn into nasty people in the future. We don't want that do we?
