The Day He Came Back by Penelope Ward Pdf

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel. It was the summer of my life. I’d met the guy of my dreams. Unfortunately, he was the son of my uppity employer—and very much off-limits. But Gavin was a rebel. He knew his mother would disown him if she found out about us; in his eyes, we just had to be careful. He never treated me as his mother did—like hired help. Instead, Gavin put me on a pedestal and loved me harder than I’d ever been loved in my life. What a summer it was. Until it all ended—badly. I was never supposed to see Gavin again. That didn’t stop me from thinking about him every day for ten years. I knew little about his life now, just that he was an entrepreneur living an ocean away. When a twist of fate had me working again in the very place our love affair started a decade earlier, I knew it was only a matter of time before I might see him again. But I wasn’t prepared. What if he hated me? What if he loved someone else now? I wasn’t prepared for all the unknowns. And most of all, I wasn’t prepared for today to be the day he came back.

The Day He Came Home by Elana Johnson Pdf

A wounded Marine returns to Hawthorne Harbor years after the woman he was married to for exactly one week before she got an annulment...and then a baby nine months later. Can Hunter and Alice make a family out of past heartache? Hunter Magleby hasn't been back to Hawthorne Harbor in nine years. His parents have moved from the small beach town, but Hunter feels called to return to his roots after a career-ending injury overseas. He limps, literally, back into town, some unfinished business between him and the wife he left all those years ago. Alice Kopp got an annulment only a week into the marriage, and she hasn't heard from Hunter since. She sees him almost every day though, when she looks into her son's eyes, so much like his father's. Yes, Westin is a spitting image of Hunter, and Alice dreads the day she'll have to introduce the two of them, because Hunter will be furious with her. When Hunter goes to the hospital for his physical therapy appointment, he runs into Alice, who works as a nurse in the NICU. She's eating lunch with her son, and when her mother shows up to pick up the boy so Alice can go back to work, it becomes a jolly good family reunion. Hunter just didn't realize he was part of the family. He's furious with Alice but also desperate to get to know the son he didn't know he had. As he battles his war injury, his depression, and his anger with Alice, only two things calms him: his therapy dog and his son. The more time he spends with Westin, the more he has to see Alice too, and the old flame that was there almost a decade ago is still burning brightly. Will the day he came home open a new door for Hunter and Alice to find a way to forgive one another and build a family with their son? Continue this sweet/clean contemporary beach romance series with THE DAY HE CAME HOME - a military, second chance romance by USA Today bestselling author Elana Johnson.

Death and the Textile Industry in Nigeria by Elisha P Renne Pdf

This book draws upon thinking about the work of the dead in the context of deindustrialization—specifically, the decline of the textile industry in Kaduna, Nigeria—and its consequences for deceased workers’ families. The author shows how the dead work in various ways for Christians and Muslims who worked in KTL mill in Kaduna, not only for their families who still hope to receive termination remittances, but also as connections to extended family members in other parts of Nigeria and as claims to land and houses in Kaduna. Building upon their actions as a way of thinking about the ways that the dead work for the living, the author focuses on three major themes. The first considers the growth of the city of Kaduna as a colonial construct which, as the capital of the Protectorate of Northern Nigeria, was organized by neighborhoods, by public cemeteries, and by industrial areas. The second theme examines the establishment of textile mills in the industrial area and new ways of thinking about work and labor organization, time regimens, and health, particularly occupational ailments documented in mill clinic records. The third theme discusses the consequences of KTL mill workers’ deaths for the lives of their widows and children. This book will be of interest to scholars of African studies, development studies, anthropology of work, and the history of industrialization. The Day The War Ended by Jacky Hyams Pdf

Tuesday, 8 May 1945: Victory in Europe Day. A day of joyous celebration, as the end of a conflict which had engulfed the world came within touching distance. Millions of people celebrated in the streets throughout Britain. Yet not all was right in the world. Struggles remained ahead - war still raged on between the Allies and Japan. Agreements and treaties were yet to be forged. Lives continued to be lost around the world. Meanwhile in Britain, although the pressure of supporting active military campaigns was reduced, lives were irrevocably changed in other ways. Bonds forged by the momentum of struggle, by hardship, unity and common purpose would begin to fade, and give way to the wounds of sorrow, upheaval and trauma that six years of conflict had riven. What was it really like to be living in Britain as the war drew to a close, giving way to a new era of hope, but also of deep uncertainty? In The Day the War Ended, bestselling author Jacky Hyams delivers a sweeping story, weaving together illuminating untold stories with contemporary records and photographs. The result is a moving, personal insight into hearts and minds across the home front right through the momentous year of 1945, as war ended and 'everything after' took root, shaping the world we know today.

The Stars We Know by Timothy P. McCleary Pdf

This fascinating ethnography explores how the Crow Indians have blended scientific observation with religious symbolism to develop traditions that are a cornerstone of their culture. For centuries, the Crow people have kept a careful watch on the heavens above themparticularly the cycles and movements of the stars, the sun, the moon, and certain planets. Their interpretations of these cosmic phenomena have shaped the principles by which the Crow live, providing a sense of right and wrong and an attendant set of values and ethics. The Crow speak of this celestial wisdom as ihk alwahkuua, the stars we know. In this illustrated volume, McCleary provides description and background but lets the Crow star knowledge unfold through the words of contemporary tribal elders, whose narratives describe the origins and organization of the universe and the history of constellations that have special religious interpretation and history. The Stars We Know, Second Edition is a valuable contribution to the study of Native American theology as well as an important record of Crow oral traditions.
