How the Dead Speak by Val McDermid Pdf

Unmarked graves are found on the grounds of an old orphanage in this “riveting” British crime thriller by an Edgar Award finalist (Publishers Weekly, starred review). With profiler Tony Hill behind bars and Carol Jordan no longer with the police, he’s finding unexpected outlets for his talents in jail and she’s joined forces with a group of lawyers and forensics experts looking into suspected miscarriages of justice. But they’re doing it without each other; being in the same room at visiting hour is too painful to contemplate. Meanwhile, construction is suddenly halted on the redevelopment of an orphanage after dozens of skeletons are found buried at the site. Forensic examination reveals they date from between twenty and forty years ago, when the nuns were running their repressive regime. But then a different set of skeletons is discovered in a far corner—young men from as recent as ten years ago. When newly promoted DI Paula McIntyre discovers that one of the male skeletons is that of a killer who is supposedly alive and behind bars—and the subject of one of Carol’s miscarriage investigations—it brings Tony and Carol irresistibly into each other’s orbit once again in this masterfully plotted novel by “the queen of psychological thrillers” (Irish Independent).

I Speak to Dead People, Can You? by Lisa Williams Pdf

This book is designed for those who wish to develop their natural gifts or to understand more about the afterlife and see the signs that their loved ones are around them. Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Lisa Williams, and I have been working as a psychic medium for over twenty years. I never planned to work as a medium. I mean, think about it: in the '80s, having a career as a medium was never heard of. If I had gone to my teachers and said, "I want to speak to dead people for a career," I would have been carted off to the nearest mental institute. In fact, there were times that my mother would joke about the men in white coats coming to get me. I thought she was serious, and I grew up thinking that I was a little weird and hiding my ability. I was lucky to have a friend who thought my weirdness was cool. She was always asking questions about it, so I started to feel more comfortable; but as friends do, we drifted apart, and I had a new circle of friends, so I went back into the closet. I still had a growing intuition, but I curbed it and didn't say anything. I just found that I "knew" things, and I couldn't really explain it. I was actually quite shy growing up, and I found that I conformed with society about what I believed I should be like. It was easy. I fit the mold, and I didn't say anything...many people would call that being a sheep and following the crowd. Does this sound familiar to your story? It probably does. Well let me tell you: you are normal. Just because you have this gift doesn't mean that you have to hide it. For years I hid from it. I even hid it from my own parents for a while. For most of my life, my father has been a huge skeptic, and I remember the time when I had been working as a psychic medium for a while and he asked me when I was going to get a "proper job." He was an atheist and couldn't wrap his head around the concept that our soul continues to live on when our body dies. When I finally decided to come out as a medium, it was accepted and most people had a fascination about it. It was "cool" to have this gift. I grew up in the United Kingdom and so we never showed emotions, never went to therapy, and we never said we loved each other. It was a very different world to what we live in now. Going to a psychic or a medium was better than going to a therapist in the United Kingdom. When you went to the therapist you were admitting that you had a problem, it was a sign of weakness. Now it's considered a gift to be aware of your challenges, and it's actually character building. I finally surrendered to my gift after my friend helped me see that I wasn't crazy and that I actually could help others. The rest is history. What I would have benefited from, though, in those early years was some structure, discipline, and understanding. Even though my grandmother worked as a medium she died before I started, and so I didn't have anyone really to talk too. The only thing that she said to me was: "Always trust your gut instincts. It will never let you down." That is something I live by, and I will suggest that you do, too. Through my work, I have been guided by Spirit, which has shown me the way forward to work with my gift. I have built my gift on discipline and respect, which is something that I will enforce within you. I have developed the skill of delivering a message, as well as enhancing and fine-tuning my gift. These are things that I will help you with. Throughout this book you will come to understand the history of Mediumship, how to develop your gift, and how to see signs from your loved ones. You will be given daily exercises to enhance your gift and to help you connect to your own loved ones and those of other people.

Passage by Connie Willis Pdf

One of those rare, unforgettable novels that are as chilling as they are insightful, as thought-provoking as they are terrifying, award-winning author Connie Willis's Passage is an astonishing blend of relentless suspense and cutting-edge science unlike anything you've ever read before. It is the electrifying story of a psychologist who has devoted her life to tracking death. But when she volunteers for a research project that simulates the near-death experience, she will either solve life's greatest mystery -- or fall victim to its greatest terror. At Mercy General Hospital, Dr. Joanna Lander will soon be paged -- not to save a life, but to interview a patient just back from the dead. A psychologist specializing in near-death experiences, Joanna has spent two years recording the experiences of those who have been declared clinically dead and lived to tell about it. It's research on the fringes of ordinary science, but Joanna is about to get a boost from an unexpected quarter. A new doctor has arrived at Mercy General, one with the power to give Joanna the chance to get as close to death as anyone can. A brilliant young neurologist, Dr. Richard Wright has come up with a way to manufacture the near-death experience using a psychoactive drug. Dr. Wright is convinced that the NDE is a survival mechanism and that if only doctors understood how it worked, they could someday delay the dying process, or maybe even reverse it. He can use the expertise of a psychologist of Joanna Lander's standing to lend credibility to his study. But he soon needs Joanna for more than just her reputation. When his key volunteer suddenly drops out of the study, Joanna finds herself offering to become Richard's next subject. After all, who better than she, a trained psychologist, to document the experience? Her first NDE is as fascinating as she imagined it would be -- so astounding that she knows she must go back, if only to find out why this place is so hauntingly familiar. But each time Joanna goes under, her sense of dread begins to grow, because part of her already knows why the experience is so familiar, and why she has every reason to be afraid.... And just when you think you know where she is going, Willis throws in the biggest surprise of all -- a shattering scenario that will keep you feverishly reading until the final climactic page is turned.

The Dead Don't Speak: Lt. Joseph Marcus #2 by Fletcher Flora Pdf

"Wildside Press is proud to present the second of Fletcher Flora’s series featuring police detective Lt. Joseph Marcus, as part of our ongoing effort to make Flora’s collected work available again to the public. We plan to release the entire series. While Flora had a long career writing much crime, mystery, and detective fiction, Marcus seems to be his only attempt to create a series character. Marcus, as a character, is marked by his dogged rationality, as he attempts to solve various “inexplicable” murders and crimes, much to the annoyance of his compatriot Bobo Fuller. We have been able to identify nine stories featuring the character—although as always we ask fans and aficionados to inform us of any we have missed. Note: while many online sources list the Fletcher Flora story “The Capsule” (from Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine, December 1964) as being part of the Marcus series, it does not actually feature the character. “The Capsule” can be read in Wildside Press’s The Second Fletcher Flora Mystery MEGAPACK®. We hope you enjoy this classic 1964 detective story."
