The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century. ++++ The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. The Stations of the Cross by Catherine de Hueck Doherty Pdf

The Way of the Cross at Jerusalem, known as the Via Dolorosa or Via Crucis, marks Jesus' path to his crucifixion. Fourteen significant moments along the way are marked by a "station," and Saints throughout the ages confirm that meditating upon the stations is most fruitful, enabling you to make a pilgrimage to the moment of Jesus' Passion. One such Way of the Cross is located just outside Catherine Doherty's poustinia-her cabin, her desert. From the earliest days of her apostolic life, Catherine daily made this pilgrimage with Jesus Christ and his mother, walking with them, suffering with them, taking up the cross on the way to crucifixion and resurrection. Catherine's diaries, writings, and life brim with meditations, lessons, and insights gained from her spiritual pilgrimages to Golgotha. We offer to you some of these personal meditations from Catherine's heart during her pilgrimage along the Way, to guide you through your own pilgrimage to crucifixion and resurrection. This devotion begins with some of Catherine's meditations that you can pray to prepare your heart and focus your mind before you make your Way, or to deepen your resolve after making your Way. Each station includes Scripture reflections, a meditation and prayer from Catherine, and common public prayers-accompanied by the wood carvings of the Stations that appear in the Madonna House chapel in Combermere.

Praying the Stations of the Cross with St. Josemaria Escriva by Josemaria Escriva,Midwest Theological Forum Pdf

“My Lord and my God, under the loving eyes of our Mother, we are making ready to accompany you along this path of sorrow, which was the price for our redemption.” Praying the Stations of the Cross with St. Josemaria Escriva is an invitation and guide to praying and contemplating the traditional fourteen stations following the way of Jesus Christ’s passion and death. Like the original, this adaptation of St. Josemaria’s beloved devotion, The Way of Cross, seeks to help people to pray and, with God’s grace, to grow in a spirit of reparation and of gratitude to Our Lord, who has rescued us at the cost of his blood. St. Josemaria’s scriptural commentaries, fruit of his personal prayer, help us to enter into and become one more in each scene, so that as we strive to accompany Jesus more intimately and lovingly, we come to understand the redemptive meaning of his suffering and our own. *Includes Audio

Reflections on the Passion: A Modern Guide to the Stations of the Cross: A Modern Guide to the Stations of the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Frank Maduri Pdf

This book guides the reader through a series of reflections on the Stations of The Cross which recounts the final hours of the life of Jesus Christ. The book has three different versions of reflections based on the amount of time that the reader has to pray and reflect within this ancient Christian faith ritual. The Workday version is meant for those who have less time due to the obligations of their day. The Marian version is through the eyes of The Blessed Mother. The Traditional version features longer reflections and the traditional prayers after each Station. The book provides an additional reflection on The Risen Jesus and the powerful effect that has on each of us in a personal way through our own "Way of the Cross" in our daily lives. The work is accentuated by profoundly moving illustrations completed by a team of talented artists which will help the reader become immersed in a deeply personal reflection on the unbelievable love that Jesus displayed on His Way to the Cross. Each reflection is uniquely suited and customized to meet the increasingly busy lives that many of us lead. It can also serve as a way to slow down and take a prayer break from all of the chaos of the day. The author and the artists have agreed to donate all of the proceeds of the sales of this book to ACN (Aid to the Church In Need) to assist the persecuted Christians in the Nineveh Plains region of the Middle East. These believers have been brutally tortured, displaced from their homes, captured, and executed by ISIS over a period of several years. Please take a prayer reflection journey with Jesus and gain deeper meaning and understanding of the power and redemption of The Cross. In a world full of violence and unrest this is a great way to help others and offer prayers for peace in a fallen society. A brief history of the Stations of the Cross is included as well as some background from the author on the importance of this prayer devotion. An accompanying wooden art set will be sold separately which will allow the faithful to pray the Stations of the Cross along with the book in their homes as a family or with a family member or friend who is home bound or sick.

A Walk in Jerusalem by John Peterson Pdf

A thoughtful meditation on the Stations of the Cross for followers who want a deeper understanding of the Passion and the meaning of Easter. With a helpful map, illustrations. Every Friday in Jerusalem, Franciscan monks take groups of pilgrims down the Via Dolorosa, the road Christ may have walked on his way to the cross. Stopping at each of fourteen locations that mark events in the final days of Christ’s life, the pilgrims recall the Passion story and offer prayers for the world. In A Walk in Jerusalem, The Rev. Canon John L. Peterson, Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, brings new life to this centuries-old ritual known as the Stations of the Cross. Illustrated with a map, 14 black-and-white photographs, and 14 pen-and-ink drawings, this helpful guide provides the appropriate episode of the Passion story along with a meditation and brief liturgy that apply that story to today’s world. Designed for use on Good Friday or general devotions, A Walk in Jerusalem offers new insight into the Passion Narratives and encouragement to live as Christ taught. “A very moving presentation of the Way of the Cross.”―Religious Resources International

Stations of the Cross by 5395 Media Llc Pdf

The Stations of the Cross, as with many forms of devotional within the Catholic Church, has developed over the centuries. The practice of walking the Via Dolorosa began with pilgrims to the Holy Land in Jerusalem during the Crusades and was brought back to the local parish churches by those pilgrims and crusaders. St. Alphonsus Liguouri authored a standard form in the 1700's that continues to be used in parishes today. In this booklet, I have tried to preserve some of those traditional aspects, while also adding verses of scripture and meditations to aid in our reconciliation with our loving Father. This can be used as an individual or guided group devotional and is meant not just for the Lenten season but can be used anytime during the Church year.
