Inf'ty Vols: A Sketch of Its Marches, Battles and Campaigns, From 1861 to 1865; With a Complete Regimental and Company Roster, and a Few Portraits and Sketches of Its Officers and Commanders Our uniforms were immediately issued us, gray pants, jacket, and cap, with black trimmings, state but tons, and Sept. 14th the companies then mustered were furnished with guns and accoutrements, (harper' Ferry muskets, 1848 model, 69 cali bra) and 40 rounds of cartridges, bal and three buckshot. The days until Oct. 11th were spent in squad, company and battal ion drill and practice firing over nea Mendota, where the experimenta. Farm now is. We were at first quartered in bar racks along the south and east side of the camp, and took our meals in large dining hall near the north en trance, but on the evening of Sept 2ith, some of the boys a 310 wen tired of rye coffee and mop soup.
