The Quantum Theory of Light by Rodney Loudon Pdf

This third edition, like its two predecessors, provides a detailed account of the basic theory needed to understand the properties of light and its interactions with atoms, in particular the many nonclassical effects that have now been observed in quantum-optical experiments. The earlier chapters describe the quantum mechanics of various optical processes, leading from the classical representation of the electromagnetic field to the quantum theory of light. The later chapters develop the theoretical descriptions of some of the key experiments in quantum optics. Over half of the material in this third edition is new. It includes topics that have come into prominence over the last two decades, such as the beamsplitter theory, squeezed light, two-photon interference, balanced homodyne detection, travelling-wave attenuation and amplification, quantum jumps, and the ranges of nonlinear optical processes important in the generation of nonclassical light. The book is written as a textbook, with the treatment as a whole appropriate for graduate or postgraduate students, while earlier chapters are also suitable for final-year undergraduates. Over 100 problems help to intensify the understanding of the material presented.

The Electromagnetic Origin of Quantum Theory and Light by Dale Mills Grimes,Craig A. Grimes Pdf

This book resolves fundamental questions of quantum theory and offers arguably the strongest evidence yet in support of string theory. It is essential reading for everyone in physics, physical mathematics, and the philosophy of science. The authors model electrons as an ensemble of strings subject to the laws of classical statistical mechanics. This model shows the Schrodinger equation to be the low speed descriptor of equilibrium and near-equilibrium states but not of quantum jumps. Like other statistical systems, the electron ensemble passes through all possible intrinsic states. As a high energy eigenstate electron ensemble passes through an appropriate structure, it regeneratively produces an encompassing standing energy field. Regenerative field buildup enables the electron to be a radiative band pass filter: it is an efficient radiator at the buildup frequency and phase, but all other frequencies and phases are blocked. When a matching external field trigger is applied depending upon therelative phasings, the standing energy is either absorbed or emitted with full directivity.

Bell anchored the logic chain begun by Einstein, Rosen, and Podolsky and tested by Aspect et al., showing that entangled electrons are nonlocal. Feynman showed that free electrons are nonlocal in that they travel between any two points using all possible paths. The authors postulate nonlocality of eigenstate electrons and find quantum theory arises from classical electromagnetic field theory. Source fields for photons are detailed. This volume: • Successfully bridges electromagnetism and quantum theory, detailing their common origin, • Significantly reduces the postulatory base of quantum mechanics, • Is particularly useful for photonics scientists seeking to understand properties of light, and • Provides a complete electromagnetic description of photons and the Ritz photonic power-frequency rules. It is a valuable reference for all physics graduate students and professionals interested in the fundamentals of their science, and for all electrical engineering graduate students and professionals interested in antennas. Light And Vacuum: The Wave-particle Nature Of The Light And The Quantum Vacuum. Electromagnetic Theory And Quantum Electrodynamics Beyond The Standard Model (Second Edition) by Constantin Meis Pdf

Light and Vacuum presents a synthesis of selected fundamental topics of electromagnetic wave theory and quantum electrodynamics (QED) and analyzes the main theoretical difficulties encountered to ensure a coherent mathematical description of the simultaneous wave–particle nature of light, put in evidence by the experiments. The notion and the role of the quantum vacuum, strongly related to light, are extensively investigated. Classical electrodynamics issued from Maxwell's equations revealed the necessity of introducing the notion of volume for an electromagnetic wave to stand entailing precise values of cut-off wavelengths to account for the shape and dimensions of the surrounding space. Conversely, in QED, light is considered to be composed of point particles disregarding the conceptual question on how the frequency of oscillating electric and magnetic fields may be attributed to a point particle. To conciliate these concepts, the book provides a comprehensive overview of the author's work, including innovative contributions on the quantization of the vector potential amplitude at a single photon state, the non-local simultaneous wave–particle mathematical representation of the photon and finally the quantum vacuum. The purpose of the advanced elaborations is to raise questions, give hints and answers, and finally aspire for further theoretical and experimental studies in order to improve our knowledge and understanding on the real essence of Light and Vacuum. In this new edition, the bibliography has been widely enriched. Improvements have been made to the various chapters, taking into account the actual status of the knowledge in this field.

Photons by Klaus Hentschel Pdf

This book focuses on the gradual formation of the concept of ‘light quanta’ or ‘photons’, as they have usually been called in English since 1926. The great number of synonyms that have been used by physicists to denote this concept indicates that there are many different mental models of what ‘light quanta’ are: simply finite, ‘quantized packages of energy’ or ‘bullets of light’? ‘Atoms of light’ or ‘molecules of light’? ‘Light corpuscles’ or ‘quantized waves’? Singularities of the field or spatially extended structures able to interfere? ‘Photons’ in G.N. Lewis’s sense, or as defined by QED, i.e. virtual exchange particles transmitting the electromagnetic force? The term ‘light quantum’ made its first appearance in Albert Einstein’s 1905 paper on a “heuristic point of view” to cope with the photoelectric effect and other forms of interaction of light and matter, but the mental model associated with it has a rich history both before and after 1905. Some of its semantic layers go as far back as Newton and Kepler, some are only fully expressed several decades later, while others initially increased in importance then diminished and finally vanished. In conjunction with these various terms, several mental models of light quanta were developed—six of them are explored more closely in this book. It discusses two historiographic approaches to the problem of concept formation: (a) the author’s own model of conceptual development as a series of semantic accretions and (b) Mark Turner’s model of ‘conceptual blending’. Both of these models are shown to be useful and should be explored further. This is the first historiographically sophisticated history of the fully fledged concept and all of its twelve semantic layers. It systematically combines the history of science with the history of terms and a philosophically inspired history of ideas in conjunction with insights from cognitive science.

Quantum Puzzle, The: Critique Of Quantum Theory And Electrodynamics by Clarke Barry R Pdf

In 1861, James Clerk–Maxwell published Part II of his four-part series "On physical lines of force". In it, he attempted to construct a vortex model of the magnetic field but after much effort neither he, nor other late nineteenth century physicists who followed him, managed to produce a workable theory. What survived from these attempts were Maxwell's four equations of electrodynamics together with the Lorentz force law, formulae that made no attempt to describe an underlying reality but stood only as a mathematical description of the observed phenomena. When the quantum of action was introduced by Planck in 1900 the difficulties that had faced Maxwell's generation were still unresolved. Since then theories of increasing mathematical complexity have been constructed to attempt to bring the totality of phenomena into order with little success. This work examines the problems that had been abandoned long before quantum mechanics was formulated in 1925 and argues that these issues need to be revisited before real progress in the quantum theory of the electromagnetic field can be made. Key Features:The main mathematical ambiguities of the quantum electrodynamics formalism are clearly put in evidence, such as: derivation of the Hamiltonian without respecting Heisenberg's commutation relations, lack of an interaction Hamiltonian between the vacuum state and the electrons, singularities … etc.The basic aspect of Quantum Electrodynamics related to the quantization of the vector potential amplitude of the electromagnetic field to a single photon state α0k (ωk) = ξωk, which derives directly from Maxwell's equations, is uniquely described in this manuscriptA coherent mathematical coupling of the electromagnetic wave theory and quantum electrodynamics is fully provided resulting in a unique simultaneous wave particle formalism for the photon, in agreement with the experimental evidenceThe quantum vacuum issues arise naturally from the vector potential quantization procedure and corresponds to a very low energy density, compatible with recent astrophysical observations. Furthermore, it is explicitly expressed as a function of creation and annihilation operators permitting direct interactions with the electronsKeywords:Light;Electromagnetic Field;Second Quantization;Photons;Electrons;Quantum Vacuum

Beyond Superstrings by Wim Vegt Pdf

The world beyond Superstrings describes a world with dimensions smaller than Planck length (1.616229 x 10-35 [m] ). Since 1971 Superstrings within the dimensions of the Planck length have been considered the building elements for elementary particles . The question rises: What are Superstrings made of? What is the building material for Superstrings. What are the 10 dimensions? This book offers an attempt to find new answers beyond unknown borders. To find the new unknown boundaries we have to go back in time. Because when we start with the same mathematical equations, the same knowledge, the same procedures, we will always find the same outcome, the same answers. And soon we will believe that there is only one outcome. The only outcome within the Standard Model where we will find the same elementary particles grounded on the same Superstring Theory. To escape from the vicious circle in Quantum Mechanics, we have to leave the path of well known physics. We have to leave behind the founders of Quantum Physics. Great scientists like Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg. We have to leave behind the safe path of well- known physics. We even have to leave behind the founders of classical physics. We have to leave behind a very special scientist like James Clerk Maxwell, the founder of Classical Electrodynamics. And when we walk all alone in darkness, wondering where to go, we have to remember the first beginning of the discovery of light. How a man, half a monk, half a scientist, like Isaac Newton discovered the first principles of the light when he saw the first secrets of light being revealed. When the pure white light was broken through a prism and separated in the colors of the rainbow. Isaac Newton was touched by the beauty of the light as well as in his religious way as well as in his scientific way. And that is the secret that the world has forgotten. Everything will be revealed to us, when we step down from our towers of power and kneel humble for the beauty of that what has been given to us. Because there is wisdom in beauty. There is knowledge in prayer. And the most powerful wisdom will be given to us out of love. Do not claim wisdom but receive it humble and enjoy the beauty of it. There is nothing more “non-scientific” in the world than to claim that we have found the “God’s particle”. There is nothing more arrogant in the world than to claim that we have found the theory of everything and that we have framed God into a quantum mechanical box. But when we make ourselves humble and kneel for the beauty of the world. When we open our heart for the love that is carried by the beauty, wisdom will come to us and answers will be given for free. Doors will be opened. And we will discover the secrets to open the hidden doors to the unknown worlds. When we go back in time, back to 1672 when Isaac Newton just had discovered the beauty of light, showing all its hidden colors. And we ask the “hidden world showing the beauty of light”: how can we build a world? We will simply find the answers. And knowledge will be given to us for free. Knowledge beyond Superstrings. Knowledge beyond 10-dimensional spaces. Because the world is always in balance. Newton’s second law of motions simply expresses the balance in nature. And balance will be our answer. To build a world, we have to build a world in balance. And that is the only knowledge that has been used to build a new theory beyond Superstrings and beyond 10-dimensional spaces. The discovery journey to this new theory beyond Superstrings will be lonely and dark. Because there will be no guidance from well known physics. Equations have to be reinvented. And the road will lead straight through faith and believe, through manipulation of truth, through political intrigues, through the darkness of the world. But there is always the hope that at the end of the tunnel of darkness, there will be light.

Particle Wave Mass Unification by Wim Vegt Pdf

The presented theory in this book has been grounded on a fundamental mathematical mistake in Classical Electromagnetic Field Theory with Impact on General Relativity, Quantum Physics and the boundaries of our Universe. In this new Unification Theory, the 100 year old concept in Quantum Physics of the Particle-Wave duality has been be replaced by a Unification in which Particles , Waves and Mass are the 3 aspects of the same Origin. The Origin of Matter, The Origin of this world, the Origin of this Universe. In the classical Wave-Particle duality, the mass of an elementary particle has been divided by a “De Broglie Wave” (probability wave, material wave), which is a solution of the Schrödinger Wave Equation. The mass of an electron in a spherical orbit in the Hydrogen Atom is dived by a spherical probability corresponding to the mathematical solution of the wave equation. In this new Unification Theory the Particle, the Wave and the Mass become the 3 aspects of the same origin. A concept in which probability does not exist anymore. The Origin of Matter. the Origin of our World. The Origin of our Universe.

Galileo Unbound by David D. Nolte Pdf

Galileo Unbound traces the journey that brought us from Galileo's law of free fall to today's geneticists measuring evolutionary drift, entangled quantum particles moving among many worlds, and our lives as trajectories traversing a health space with thousands of dimensions. Remarkably, common themes persist that predict the evolution of species as readily as the orbits of planets or the collapse of stars into black holes. This book tells the history of spaces of expanding dimension and increasing abstraction and how they continue today to give new insight into the physics of complex systems. Galileo published the first modern law of motion, the Law of Fall, that was ideal and simple, laying the foundation upon which Newton built the first theory of dynamics. Early in the twentieth century, geometry became the cause of motion rather than the result when Einstein envisioned the fabric of space-time warped by mass and energy, forcing light rays to bend past the Sun. Possibly more radical was Feynman's dilemma of quantum particles taking all paths at once — setting the stage for the modern fields of quantum field theory and quantum computing. Yet as concepts of motion have evolved, one thing has remained constant, the need to track ever more complex changes and to capture their essence, to find patterns in the chaos as we try to predict and control our world.

MATTER AND LIGHT The New Physics By LOUIS DE BROGLIE. Originally published in 1937. TRANSLATORS NOTE: THE Author has in certain places modified the original French text for the English translation, for the sake of greater cohesion, and has also revised some passages, in order to bring them into accord with the results of later research. Occasional Translators Notes are shown in square brackets. The chapter on The Undulatory Aspects of the Electron has the special historical interest of having been delivered as a Lecture on the occasion of the Authors receipt of the Nobel Award, while that on Wave Mechanics and its Interpretations was given as an Address at the Glasgow meeting of the British Association in 1928. I am indebted to Dr. J. E. Turner, of the University of Liver pool, for assistance with the translation and the proofs, and to Dr. C. Strachan, of the same University, I am indebted for valuable assistance in dealing with the equations and the more technical passages, as well as for reading the proofs. W. H. J. PREFACE: THE amiable insistence of my friend Andr George has induced me to collect in the present Volume a number of Studies on con temporary Physics written from both the general and the more metaphysical point of view. Each of these Studies forms an inde pendent whole, and can be read by itself. A slight degree of repeti tion which the reader is asked to overlook has been the inevi table result for on more than one occasion I have been compelled to duplicate a summary of the great fundamental stages of con temporary Physics, such as the classification of simple substances, the investigation of the photo-electric effect and the origin of the Theory of Light Quanta and of Wave Mechanics the subjects are somewhat technical, and I cannot well assume that they are common knowledge. But though the same subject is outlined in several of these Studies, I have tried to take up a different point of view in each, and have endeavoured to throw light on different aspects of the essential problems of Quantum Physics in order to facilitate a grasp of their importance. On comparing the different chapters the reader will observe that, while overlapping, they also complement one another and he will feel the fascination and greatness inherent in the vast structure of modern Physics. And while admiring the vast number and the extreme delicacy of experimental facts which laboratory physicists have succeeded in revealing, and the strange and brilliant concepts devised by theorists to explain them, he will appreciate to what a degree the methods and ideas of physicists have grown in subtlety during recent years, and how great has been the progress from the somewhat ingenuous Realism and the over-simplified Mechanics of earlier thinkers. The more deeply we descend into the minutest structures of Matter, the more clearly we see that the concepts evolved by the mind in the course of everyday experience especially those of Time and Space must fail us in an endeavour to describe the new worlds which we are entering. One feels tempted to say that the outlines of our concepts must undergo a progressive blurring, in order that they may retain some semblance of relevance to the realities of the subatomic scales. Time and Space, in other words, are too loose a dress for the elementary entities individuality becomes attenuated in the mysterious pro cesses of interaction, and even Determinism, the darling of an older generation of physicists, is forced to yield...

Light is the Bridge between God, Relativity and Quantum Physics by Wim Vegt Pdf

The presented theory in this book has been grounded on a fundamental mathematical mistake in the famous George Maxwell’s Classical Electromagnetic Field Theory with an Impact on General Relativity, Quantum Physics and the boundaries of our Universe. In this new theory the old concept in Quantum Physics of a mystic relationship between particles, waves and mass will be replaced by a New Unification Theory in which Particles , Waves and Mass are the 3 aspects of the same Origin. The Historical Development of Quantum Theory by Jagdish Mehra,Helmut Rechenberg Pdf

Quantum Theory, together with the principles of special and general relativity, constitute a scientific revolution that has profoundly influenced the way in which we think about the universe and the fundamental forces that govern it. The Historical Development of Quantum Theory is a definitive historical study of that scientific work and the human struggles that accompanied it from the beginning. Drawing upon such materials as the resources of the Archives for the History of Quantum Physics, the Niels Bohr Archives, and the archives and scientific correspondence of the principal quantum physicists, as well as Jagdish Mehra's personal discussions over many years with most of the architects of quantum theory, the authors have written a rigorous scientific history of quantum theory in a deeply human context. This multivolume work presents a rich account of an intellectual triumph: a unique analysis of the creative scientific process. The Historical Development of Quantum Theory is science, history, and biography, all wrapped in the story of a great human enterprise. Its lessons will be an aid to those working in the sciences and humanities alike.
