Adsorption From Aqueous Solutions by P.H. Tewari Pdf

Adsorption from aqueous solutions is important in many tech nological areas, like water purification, mineral beneficiation, soil conservation, detergency, and many areas of biology. Recently, adsorption of radionuclides from aqueous solutions has become the focus of attention in assessing the movement of radionuclides through a geologic medium from underground radioactive waste repositor ies. This volume provides a multidisciplinary overview of current work in the area of adsorption from aqueous solutions, and reviews the progress that has been made in the theoretical models for assessing adsorption. Adsorption of heavy metal ions and the effect of complex formation is treated extensively, as are the effects of surface chemical properties of the adsorbent, solution pH, and thermodynamic parameters important in the adsorption process. Adsorption of pesticides and organic polymeric species on different adsorbents are included and implications of adsorption of ions on dental materials are discussed. Also included are studies of the adsorption of radionuclides by geologic media under environmental conditions. The study of the chemical nature of the adsorbed species at the surface by X-ray photoelectron spectro sc.opy which often provides mechanistic information for the adsorption process is included for adsorbed metal ions on clay and mineral surfaces.

Ion Exchange in Environmental Processes by Arup K. SenGupta Pdf

Provides a comprehensive introduction to ion exchange for beginners and in-depth coverage of the latest advances for those already in the field As environmental and energy related regulations have grown, ion exchange has assumed a dominant role in offering solutions to many concurrent problems both in the developed and the developing world. Written by an internationally acknowledged leader in ion exchange research and innovation, Ion Exchange: in Environmental Processes is both a comprehensive introduction to the science behind ion exchange and an expert assessment of the latest ion exchange technologies. Its purpose is to provide a valuable reference and learning tool for virtually anyone working in ion exchange or interested in becoming involved in that incredibly fertile field. Written for beginners as well as those already working the in the field, Dr. SenGupta provides stepwise coverage, advancing from ion exchange fundamentals to trace ion exchange through the emerging area of hybrid ion exchange nanotechnology (or polymeric/inorganic ion exchangers). Other topics covered include ion exchange kinetics, sorption and desorption of metals and ligands, solid-phase and gas-phase ion exchange, and more. Connects state-of-the-art innovations in such a way as to help researchers and process scientists get a clear picture of how ion exchange fundamentals can lead to new applications Covers the design of selective or smart ion exchangers for targeted applications—an area of increasing importance—including solid and gas phase ion exchange processes Provides in-depth discussion on intraparticle diffusion controlled kinetics for selective ion exchange Features a chapter devoted to exciting developments in the areas of hybrid ion exchange nanotechnology or polymeric/inorganic ion exchangers Written for those just entering the field of ion exchange as well as those involved in developing the “next big thing” in ion exchange systems, Ion Exchange in Environmental Processes is a valuable resource for students, process engineers, and chemists working in an array of industries, including mining, microelectronics, pharmaceuticals, energy, and wastewater treatment, to name just a few.

Process Technology by André B. de Haan Pdf

Process Technology provides a general overview about chemical and biochemical process technology. It focuses on the structure and development of production processes, main technological operations and the important aspects of process economics. The theoretical foundations in each chapter are supplemented by case studies and examples in a clear and instructive manner to illustrate the practical aspects. The author highlights operating principles, reasons for application and available industrial equipment of technological operations. Aim is to facilitate those without a process technology background in multi-disciplinary cooperation with (bio-) chemical engineers by providing an overview of this exciting field. The textbook is organized into seven distinct parts: Structure of the chemical industry and (bio-) chemical processes (Bio-) Chemical reaction engineering Molecular separations (distillation, extraction, absorption, adsorption) Mechanical separations (filtration, sedimentation, membranes) Particle and final product manufacturing Development, scale-up, design and safety of processes Major industrial process descriptions
