The Fallopian Tubes by Ronald H.F. Hunter Pdf

This monograph has been written in the hope that it will prove of value to medical students and clinicians, to Honours undergradu ates in appropriate branches of the natural sciences, and to repro ductive biologists in general. It would be pleasing if the text also caught the attention of veterinary undergraduates, since there is much information bearing on reproduction in domestic animals. First and foremost, however, the intended audience is a medical one, for scientific studies of human reproduction have been cata lyzed by the intense interest in procedures of fertilization in vitro. Some would judge that this very activity has narrowed our view of physiological events occurring within the Fallopian tubes. The pre sent work may therefore serve as a useful counterbalance to the overwhelming series of publications on procedures of in vitro fer tilization, and offer opportunities to those in the clinical field for extending their knowledge of the scientific background to much of the current work.

The Fallopian Tube by Jurgis G. Grudzinskas,Michael G. Chapman,Timothy Chard,Ovrang Djahanbakhch Pdf

The examination of the human fallopian tubes was, until recently, restricted to observations on gross anatomical disposition and tubal patency. These studies, for decades, were the domain of doctors and physiologists whose primary interest was population control and family planning, funded largely by organisations and agencies seek ing alternatives to steroidal contraceptives. For a "worrying" but short period after the birth of Louise Brown in 1978 as the conse quence of successful in-vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer, the fallopian tube was considered to be "dispensable" given that the metabolic milieu in which human fertilisation takes place could be effortlessly reproduced in a Petri dish, in in-vitro fertilisation procedures. However, a number of factors have acted together to renew in terest in the fallopian tube, namely new techniques in cell biology, microinstrument developments (in particular in imaging), an inter disciplinary transfer of skills from interventional radiology and car diology to gynaecology, the surgeon's wish to improve surgical tech niques, and better techniques to monitor early pregnancy. These factors have led surgeons to develop the new diagnostic and ther apeutic strategies and techniques listed here. This volume contains contributions from the majority of keynote speakers at a conference held in London in April 1992 from which its title is derived. Better diagnostic procedures should lead to the implementation of rational effective treatments.

The Fallopian Tube in Infertility and IVF Practice by William L. Ledger,Seang Lin Tan,Adil O. S. Bahathiq Pdf

The Fallopian tube has until recently been a neglected structure, bypassed by IVF and seen only as a tube that transports the egg to the uterus. More recently, its central role as the site of fertilization and early embryogenesis has been recognized, along with the major effects of tubal disease, such as chlamydia trachomatis, on fertility. Tubal surgery is an option for those women who avoid IVF because of anxiety about medication side-effects or for religious reasons. The tube is also the site for female sterilization and its reversal. This definitive guide to the Fallopian tube and its disorders collates all these topics, with authoritative text covering the spectrum of clinically relevant topics in a digestible fashion. It will be of interest to gynecologists, specialists in reproductive medicine and infertility and family planning, and others with interest in this fascinating and underestimated organ of reproduction.

The Fallopian Tube by Gautam Allahbadia,Ertan Saridogan,Ovrang Djahanbakhch Pdf

The Fallopian Tube honors perhaps, the most intricately structured, yet, one of the most functionally significant and competent organs of the reproductive apparatus. Serving as a bridge between the ovary and the uterus, it is structurally and functionally equipped to carry out the sequential cascade of events from egg pick-up, its peristaltic transport to the site of fertilization (the ampulla), providing the right microenvironment for fertilization - the most promising feature of human reproduction - and transport of the embryo to the uterus for implantation. Nevertheless, the Fallopian tubes are highly susceptible to infectious/inflammatory insults such as sexually transmitted diseases, infection after childbirth, miscarriage, termination of pregnancy (MTP) or IUD (intrauterine device) insertion, post-operative pelvic infection, tuberculosis, and severe endometriosis that may culminate in tubal damage and ultimately infertility. Tubal abnormalities account for between 25 percent and 50 percent of female infertility. The methodically organized sections of the book unravel every aspect of the Fallopian tube in detail from its anatomy, physiology, hormonal control, clinical methods of assessment, to the causes of tubal disease, the management and treatment of tubal and non-tubal infertility, ART options and eventually fertility control and the recent advances. The judiciously framed chapters, contributed by pioneers and authorities in the field of gynecology and infertility, surface some of the most commonly experienced dilemmas and problems while helping the clinician re-evaluate his own clinical practice with an evidence-based perspective. This comprehensive compilation reflects the remarkable scientific intellect, efforts and experience of the editors Dr. Gautam N Allahbadia, Dr. Ertan Saridogan and Prof. Ovrang Djahanbakhch and would serve as an indispensable, updated practical guide for clinicians, researchers and patients groping for the right knowledge in the field.

Pathology of the Female Genital Tract by A. Blaustein Pdf

The response to the First Edition of this text confirmed our belief that there was a need for a book of this kind. The multi-authored approach has been retained, ensuring that authoritative, current information is incorporated into each chapter and that references are up-to-date. The section on diseases of the vagina has been enhanced by a greater emphasis on the clinical aspects. The chapter on DES induced lesions has been updated with the data of the DeSAD study and the section on adenocar cinoma of the cervix has been enlarged by the description of the undifferenti ated lesions including "glassy cell and signet cell" carcinoma. A departure from the traditional chapter approach has been made in the discussion of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma in order to present a conceptual view of these diseases. A similar presentation of diseases of the myometrium has been made. The subjects of lymphomas and mesenchymal tumors of the ovary have been enlarged upon and presented in a separate chapter. Fine needle aspiration in the diagnosis of ovarian tumors and of non malignant disorders of the ovary has become an increasingly useful technique. Two new chapters have been added to cover this subject. Many of the changes made in the second edition were in response to reviewers of the First Edition. It is hoped that their constructive suggestions have been addressed. Ancel Blaustein, M.D.

Atlas of Intraoperative Frozen Section Diagnosis in Gynecologic Pathology by Pei Hui,Natalia Buza Pdf

This atlas is dedicated specifically to gynecologic frozen section diagnosis and addresses professional practice gaps such as high diagnostic error rate, slow turnaround time, and inefficient communication between surgeons and pathologists at the time of intraoperative frozen section consultation of gynecologic specimens. The format of the volume is a combination of concise text and high quality gross and frozen section microscopic images, meticulously selected from the superb collection of pathology specimens of gynecologic tumors provided at Yale-New Haven Hospital in the past decades. Frequent entities with diagnostic pitfalls are balanced with less common lesions. Strategies to recognize their diagnostic features are emphasized, in addition to the impact on optimal surgical treatment of patients with gynecologic cancer. The indications, limitations, morphologic diagnostic criteria and pitfalls of frozen section consultation in gynecologic pathology are thoroughly reviewed with an ultimate goal of avoiding patient mismanagement in real-time. High quality frozen section microscopic illustrations aid the recognition of morphologic patterns and serve as quick reference during intraoperative consultation. Written by experts in the field, Atlas of Intraoperative Frozen Section Diagnosis in Gynecologic Pathology is a valuable resource for pathologists at all career/expertise levels who are involved in intraoperative consultation in their daily clinical practice.
