The False Prophets of Peace by Tikva Honig-Parnass Pdf

This book refutes the long held view of the Israeli left as adhering to a humanistic, democratic and even socialist tradition, attributed to the historic Zionist Labor movement. Through a critical analysis of the prevailing discourse of Zionist intellectuals and activists on the Jewish-democratic state, it uncovers the Zionist left’s central role in laying the foundation of the colonial settler state of Israel, in articulating its hegemonic ideology and in legitimizing, whether explicitly or implicitly, the apartheid treatment of Palestinians both inside Israel and in the 1967 occupied territories. Their determined support of a Jewish-only state underlies the failure of the “peace process,” initiated by the Zionist Left, to reach a just peace based on recognition of the national rights of the entire Palestinian people.

It does so because God is our peace so that not only our relationship is with one another, but also our relations to God's creation as well as to God, are reconstituted peaceably through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ".--Stanley Hauerwas, Duke University.

Israel in the New Testament by David Pawson Pdf

Now including a new chapter: Israel in Galatians'. Over 80% of the promises and prophecies of the Old Testament have been literally fulfilled. It is a simple matter of faith in God's faithfulness to believe that he means what he says, and will do what he says he will do. This study reveals that both the people and the place called 'Israel' have a significant role in God's future plans for world redemption.

Ysengrimus by Nivardus Pdf

The "Ysengrimus" is the first fully-fledged medieval beast-epic, and the poem in which Reynard the Fox makes his first appearance on the stage of world literature. It thus occupies a key position in the long and fertile tradition of medieval beast-literature, but it also claims attention as a masterpiece in its own right, the work of one of the most daring and original satirists of the Middle Ages. Despite its importance, the "Ysengrimus" has been comparatively neglected because of its linguistic difficulties. Jill Mann eases these difficulties by presenting an English translation alongside the Latin text, and accompanying it with a detailed commentary. A full- length introduction offers an original account of the poem which shows how literary structure and historical dimensions are fused into an original satiric vision of compelling power. This book will not only interest medieval Latin specialists, but will make this major text accessible to those working on the related vernacular traditions. Its analysis of the poem's allusions to contemporary persons and events will also be of considerable interest to historians of twelfth-century Flanders.

Byang Kato by Aiah Dorkuh Foday-Khabenje Pdf

In this in-depth study of the legacy of Byang Kato, Dr. Foday-Khabenje traces his extraordinary life from a boyhood immersed in African traditional religion to his conversion to Christianity as a young man, his education in Nigeria and abroad, his global leadership within the evangelical church, his tragic, untimely death, and the long-lasting impact of his prophetic voice. In the realm of African theology, Kato is often remembered for the oppositional stance he took towards many of his contemporaries, arguing passionately for the dangers of universalism and syncretism and urging the church to place the Bible at the heart of African Christianity. Foday-Khabenje engages these debates while demonstrating that Kato’s contributions to the African church cannot be reduced to polemics. His biblical hermeneutics, perspectives on African Christian identity, and tireless work for the expansion of theological education in Africa are each explored and celebrated, along with their implications for the contemporary church in Africa and beyond. While nearly fifty years have passed since Kato’s death, his legacy is still as relevant as ever for a church facing the challenges of secularism and pluralism in the twenty-first century. In an age that seeks to de-emphasize the uniqueness of Christ, Kato’s testimony of the radical transformation offered by authentic biblical Christianity is good news for us all.

A Zionist Among Palestinians by Hillel Bardin Pdf

A Zionist among Palestinians offers the perspective of an ordinary Israeli citizen who became concerned about the Israeli military's treatment of Palestinians and was moved to work for peace. Hillel Bardin, a confirmed Zionist, was a reservist in the Israeli army during the first intifada when he met Palestinians arrested by his unit. He learned that they supported peace with Israel and the then-taboo proposal for a two-state solution, and that they understood the intifada as a struggle to achieve these goals. Bardin began to organize dialogues between Arabs and Israelis in West Bank villages, towns, and refugee camps. In 1988, he was jailed for meeting with Palestinians while on active duty in Ramallah. Over the next two decades, he participated in a variety of peace organizations and actions, from arranging for Israelis to visit Palestinian communities and homes, to the joint jogging group "Runners for Peace," to marches, political organizing, and demonstrations supporting peace, security, and freedom. In this very personal account, Bardin tries to come to grips with the conflict in a way that takes account of both Israeli-Zionist and Palestinian aims.

Explorations in African Biblical Studies by David T. Adamo Pdf

Finally I have managed to read the Manuscript of your book, Exploration in African Biblical Studies. I read it with much and personal interest. You have taken up a set of very interesting and important issues, which relate directly to the theological tasks of the Church in Africa. I appreciate the contributions you are making in this area - informative, challenging and stimulating. They show a good grasp of Biblical knowledge, so that you speak with a good measure of authority. As the book is a collection of essays, each would need to be judged on its own merit. There is no clear flowing link between them, so as to form a unit. I liked especially your treatment of African Cultural Hermeneutics. This area has not received much attention and your essay would be instrumental in opening the way in that direction. I do not feel so comfortable about the essay dealing with African-American Hermeneutics. My general feeling is that this is an area for African Americans to handle, just as areas dealing directly with Africa should be left to us to tackle. The essay on Cush-Africa in the Old Testament is fascinating and informative. You have made a very good case, which, among other things, demolishes the Anti-Africa attitude of many Western scholars. What you have demonstrated here should be said a hundred times over, and be said in the great centres of Biblical study the world over. Professor J. S. Mbiti, Germany
