History of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Canada (Classic Reprint) by Thomas Webster Pdf

Excerpt from History of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Canada I have made as few notes as possible, and have not given the names of all the authorities whom I have consulted, in the body of the work, as it would have very much enlarged the volume and added to its price. I have consulted and am indebted to the following authors, pamphlets, and papers for much valuable information on Methodism. I am also indebted to many parties who have given me much reliable information that I could not derive from books. The History of Methodism in Canada by George Frederick Playter Pdf

Excerpt from The History of Methodism in Canada: With an Account of the Rise and Progress of the Work of God Among the Canadian Indian Tribes, and Occasional Notices of the Civil Affairs of the Province To accommodate the emigrants, the Government resolved to open up the western part of Canada, now a dreary wilderness, and almost uninhabited. A few settlers were along the St. Lawrence from Cornwall to Brockville, 011 the Bay of Quinte from Kingston to Bath, and some French near Detroit. All else was a wilderness, in which dwelt the wild animals and feathery tribes, and in which roamed tribes of savage Indians. The necessary work of surveying the new land, along the St. Lawrence and Bay of Quinte, and dividing it into townships, and then into concessions and lots, was pursued with dili gence. The townships were first numbered, but not named, until several years after and the practice of calling the town ships by the number is still retained by many old inhabitants. Canadian Methodism by Egerton Ryerson Pdf

Excerpt from Canadian Methodism: Its Epochs and Characteristics By a sad necessity it falls to the lot of the present writer, as Editor of the periodical in which these essays first appeared, to prepare a preface to the volume in which they are now collected. From frequent and intimate intercourse with their lamented Author we can affirm that controversy was not the object with which they were written. Being invited thereto by the formal request of the London, Toronto, and Montreal Conferences, Dr. Ryerson desired to place on record certain documentary evidence of which he was in possession, as to the eventful history of Methodism in what is now known as Old Canada. Of those stirring events, in which he played so prominent a part, it is more than probable that the honoured writer of these essays could speak with greater fullness of information than any other man. He wrote, not to revive dead issues or buried animosities, but rather, by a calm appeal to reason and to historic facts, to allay them forever. Methodism in Canada by Alexander Sutherland Pdf

Excerpt from Methodism in Canada: Its Work and Its Story; Being the Thirty-Third Fernley Lecture, Delivered in Penzance, 31st July 1903 For more than a hundred years the Methodist Church in Canada has been so busy making history that no one has had leisure to write it. In fact, the time for such an undertaking had not fully come. The period was too short, the events too recent. They might be recorded separately in private or public annals, but could scarcely be combined into history. Within the past few years, however, there has been a growing conviction that Canadian Methodism had reached a stage in its development when the story of its first hundred years should be written; and just at the very time when this conviction began to voice itself, accompanied by some gentle hints as to who ought to undertake the task, the Board of the Fernley Lectureship saw fit to honour me with an invitation to deliver the lecture for 1903, and accompanied that invitation with a request that the theme of the lecture should be the work of the Methodist Church in Canada.
