The First Half Second by Haluk O gmen,Bruno G. Breitmeyer Pdf
Empirical and theoretical foundations for the study of the temporal dynamics of mechanisms contributing to unconscious and conscious processing of visual information; from computational, psychological, neuropsychological, and neurophysiological perspectives.
Geoffrey Gore, educator and inventor, was brought up in an English country schoolhouse in the early years of the twentieth century. His childhood was overshadowed by tension in his parents' marriage. William Gore, a widower, had married a woman twenty years his junior. When they lost their first child, Constance became over-protective of her surviving son Geoffrey and made him her partner in lifelong conflict with her husband. Both parents possessed considerable strength of character. William, born in 1853, remained very much a man of the nineteenth century. Constance was already married when Queen Victoria died, but she was entirely at home in the twentieth. Her experiences as a Red Cross VAD nurse during the First World War set the seal on her emancipation. The first forty of Geoffrey Gore's eighty years ended with his service in the Second World War. When he came to write this memoir for his descendants, he chose to close it at that point.

Mexico's "Golden Age" : THE FIRST HALF CENTURY by William H. Katra Pdf
A Franciscan monk-Mexico's first historian--characterized the four decades following the Aztecs' 1521 overthrow as Mexico's "Golden Age." His intention was to praise the benign, bi-racial society that was then coming into existence. The first of three pillars for this short-lasting society featured an enlightened governing team led by ex-conquistador Hernán Cortés; the country's first bishop, Friar Juan de Zumárraga; respected lawyer and founder of missions, Vasco de Quiroga; and the first two viceroys, Antonio de Mendoza and Luis de Velazco. The second pillar were the Franciscan friars who headed up perhaps the most important religious campaign of the sixteenth century: the decades-long evangelization campaign that would be staffed by nearly a thousand mendicant monks who dedicated their lives to baptize millions of willing Mexicans. Included in this group was the champion of Indian baptism, Friar Toribio Benavente "Motolinía," as well as the leader for Indian education, Friar Pedro de Gante. The third pillar for this emerging society were the native chieftains (this work focuses on those from Cuernavaca) who partnered with the Spanish in governing and uplifting their respective communities. The recent publication of important, heretofore unknown, historical documents justifies the need for a re-examination of events and society during this important period of Mexican history.

The Story of Algebraic Numbers in the First Half of the 20th Century by Władysław Narkiewicz Pdf
The book is aimed at people working in number theory or at least interested in this part of mathematics. It presents the development of the theory of algebraic numbers up to the year 1950 and contains a rather complete bibliography of that period. The reader will get information about results obtained before 1950. It is hoped that this may be helpful in preventing rediscoveries of old results, and might also inspire the reader to look at the work done earlier, which may hide some ideas which could be applied in contemporary research.

The First Half of the Age of Oil by Charles A. S. Hall,Carlos A. Ramírez-Pascualli Pdf
According to the conventional wisdom, we live in a post-industrial information age. This book, however, paints a different picture: We live in the age of oil. Petroleum fuels and feedstocks are responsible for much of what we take for granted in modern society, from chemical products such as fertilizer and plastics, to the energy that moves people and goods in a global economy. Oil is a nearly perfect fuel: Energy dense, safe to store, easy to transport, and mostly environmentally benign. Most importantly, oil has been cheap and abundant during the past 150 years. In 1998, two respected geologists, Colin Campbell and Jean Laherrère, published a detailed article announcing that the “end of cheap oil” would happen before 2010, which meant that the world would face a peak, or at least a plateau, in global daily oil production in the first decade of the new millennium. Today, two billion people under the age of 14 have lived the majority of their lives past the point when this century-long growth in oil supplies came to an end, which also marks the end of the first half of the age of oil. This transition has ushered in a new reality of high oil prices, stagnating oil supplies, and sluggish economies. In this book, a leading authority on energy explores the contributions and continuing legacy of Colin Campbell and Jean Laherrère, the two geologists who modified the terms of the debate about oil. The book provides a unique perspective and state-of-the-art overview of today’s energy reality and its enormous economic and social implications. - Covers a topic that eclipses climate change as the most important but least understood challenge for contemporary society - Explores the works of Colin Campbell and Jean Laherrère, the leading authorities in the field of Peak Oil, authors of “The End of Cheap Oil” (Scientific American, 1998), and founding members of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas - Addresses a broad audience of scientists, engineers, and economists in a format that is accessible to the general public - Provides a complete overview of the basic geological, chemical, physical, economic and historical concepts that every oil consumer should understand - Presents the latest information on oil production, reserves, discoveries, prices, and fields in easy-to-understand graphs and plots
Statutes and Their Interpretation in the First Half of the Fourteenth Century by Theodore F. T. Plucknett Pdf
Originally published in 1922, this book examines legal statutes and their interpretation in English courts during the reigns of Edward I, Edward II and Edward III. Distinguished legal historian Theodore Plucknett presents problems such as mistranslations, ignorance among lawyers and, in some instances, outright refusal by the courts to enforce certain statutes, and how these errors in enforcement changed the role of the government in lawmaking and legal practice. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in British legal history.
