Inorganic Reactions and Methods, The Formation of Bonds to Group VIB (O, S, Se, Te, Po) Elements (Part 1) by A. P. Hagen Pdf

For the first time the discipline of modern inorganic chemistry has been systematized according to a plan constructed by a council of editorial advisors and consultants, among them three Nobel laureates (E.O. Fischer, H. Taube and G. Wilkinson). Rather than producing a collection of unrelated review articles, the series creates a framework which reflects the creative potential of this scientific discipline. Thus, it stimulates future development by identifying areas which are fruitful for further research. The work is indexed in a unique way by a structured system which maximizes its usefulness to the reader. It augments the organization of the work by providing additional routes of access for specific compounds, reactions and other topics.

Chemical Bonds in Solids by Academician N. N. Sirota Pdf

The present four volumes, published under the collective title of "Chemical Bonds in Solids," are the translation of the two Russian books "Chemical Bonds in Crystals" and "Chemical Bonds in Semiconductors." These contain the papers presented at the Conference on Chemical Bonds held in Minsk between May 28 and June 3, 1967, together with a few other papers (denoted by an asterisk) which have been specially incorporated. Earlier collections (also published by the Nauka i Tekhnika Press of the Belorussian Academy of Sciences) were entitled "Chemical Bonds in Semiconductors and Solids" (1965) and "Chemical Bonds in Semiconductors and Thermody namics" (1966) and are available in English editions from Consultants Bureau, New York (pub lished in 1967 and 1968, respectively). The subject of chemical bonds in crystals, including semiconductors, has recently become highly topical and has attracted the interest of a wide circle of physicists, chemists, and engineers. Until recently, the most successful description of the properties of solids (including semi conductors) has been provided by the band theory, which still dominates the physics of solids. Nevertheless, it is clear that the most universal approach is that based on the general theory of chemical bonds in crystals, in which details of the electron distributions between atoms and of the wave functions appear quite explicitly.

Fundamental QSARs for Metal Ions by John D. Walker,Michael C. Newman,Monica Enache Pdf

Fundamental QSARs for Metal Ions describes the basic and essential applications of quantitative structure–activity relationships (QSARs) for regulatory or industrial scientists who need to predict metal ion bioactivity. It includes 194 QSARs that have been used to predict metal ion toxicity and 86 QSARs that have been used to predict metal ion bioconcentration, biosorption, and binding. It is an excellent sourcebook for academic, industrial, and government scientists and policy makers, and provides a wealth of information on the biological and chemical activities of metal ions as they impact health and the environment. Fundamental QSARs for Metal Ions was designed for regulatory and regulated organizations that need to use QSARs to predict metal ion bioactivity, as they now do for organic chemicals. It has the potential to eliminate resources to test the toxicity of metal ions or to promulgate regulations that require toxicity testing of metal ions because the book illustrates how to construct QSARs to predict metal ion toxicity. In addition, the book: Provides a historical perspective and introduction to developing QSARs for metal ions Explains the electronic structures and atomic parameters of metals essential to understanding differences in chemical properties that influence cation toxicity, bioconcentration, biosorption, and binding Describes the chemical properties of metals that are used to develop QSARs for metal ions Illustrates the descriptors needed to develop metal ion-ligand binding QSARs Discusses 280 QSARs for metal ions Explains the differences between QSARs for metal ions and Biotic Ligand Models Lists the regulatory limits of metals and provides examples of regulatory applications Illustrates how to construct QSARs for metal ions Dr. John D. Walker is the winner of the 2013 SETAC Government Service Award.

Chalcogenide Glasses for Infrared Optics by A. Ray Hilton Pdf

Cutting-edge techniques for yielding high-quality chalcogenide glasses This pioneering work describes the technology, developed over a 50-year period, to utilize chalcogenide glasses as infrared optical materials. Methods for qualitatively identifying chalcogenide glass compositions and producing high-purity homogeneous glass are discussed. Chalcogenide Glasses for Infrared Optics includes unique production techniques developed through the author's work at both Texas Instruments (TI) and Amorphous Materials, Inc. (AMI). The production of vacuum float zoned silicon, gallium arsenide, and cadmium telluride, all useful in infrared technology, is explained. The book highlights examples of how glass composition can be changed to enhance a particular property. Coverage includes: Transmission of light by solids Physical properties of chalcogenide glasses Glass production Careful characterization of glass properties Conventional lens fabrication--spherical surfaces Molding of unconventional aspheric lenses with diffractive surfaces Glass processes for other applications IR imaging bundles made from chalcogenide glass fibers Production of infrared crystalline materials at AMI Development of an automatic ellipsometer system at TI
