Charles Edwin Bennett (April 6, 1858 - May 2, 1921) was a classical scholar and the Goldwin Smith Professor of Latin at Cornell University. He is best remembered for his book New Latin Grammar, first published in 1895 and still in print today. This is his excellent introduction to Latin, one which stands on a par with D'Ooge's classic Latin for Beginners and Collar's The Beginner's Latin Book. Bennett was a pioneer in the statistical study of the Latin language and this is revealed by the clarity and accuracy of his explanations of grammatical points. This excellent resource for the self taught has a full vocabulary and additional passages for sight reading.
