The Geology of the English Channel by R. J. O. Hamblin Pdf

The sea area discussed in this report is delimited to the north by the south coast of England and to the south by the median line separating French from UK waters. The area featured in pioneering offshore geological exploration but less work has been carried out by the oil industry in this area than in the adjacent North Sea and South Western Approaches. However, surveys related to both aggregate studies and the Channel Tunnel have been important sources of data, and the area has been the subject of much academic research. This report concentrates on UK waters, but mention is made of the geology of both French waters and the coastal areas on either side of the English Channel.

The Geology of England and Wales by P. J. Brenchley,Peter Franklin Rawson Pdf

This second edition of 'The Geology of England and Wales' is considerably expanded from its predecessor, reflecting the increase in our knowledge of the region, and particularly of the offshore areas. Forty specialists have contributed to 18 chapters, which cover a time range from 700 million years ago to 200 million years into the future. A new format places all the chapters in approximately temporal order. Both offshore and economic geology now form an integral part of appropriate chapters.

Engineering Geology of the Channel Tunnel by Colin S. Harris Pdf

The Channel Tunnel has been called the greatest engineering project of the century, overcoming a unique set of financial, political and engineering challenges. This book provides a comprehensive insight into the events which culminated in the first dry link between Britain and France. It describes the relationship between the site investigation, data interpretation and construction of the works. It examines areas such as the difficulties inherent in predicting geology from a relatively small number of boreholes and revealing how the use of modern geophysical techniques.

The Geology of the Western English Channel and Its Western Approaches by C. D. R. Evans Pdf

This area forms part of a wide continental shelf and extends eastwards to a line from Start Point to the Cotentin Peninsula in the western English Channel, northwards to 51 degrees N, and southwestwards to the upper continental slope. It is the site of pioneering work in marine geology, and the structures and sequences recognized in early, largely geophysical, investigations have generated commercial interest. This search for hydrocarbons in the deep sedimentary basins of the area has produced new information, much of which is included with the BGS results, Deep Sea Drilling Project data and details from a wide variety of papers.

Micropalaeontology, Sedimentary Environments and Stratigraphy by J. E. Whittaker,M. B. Hart Pdf

Dennis Curry was a remarkable polymath and philanthropist, leading a double-life as one of the UK's most gifted amateur geologists, whilst at the same time being an extremely successful businessman (as Managing Director of Currys Ltd). This Festschrift, authored by friends and specialists from Britain and France, pays tribute to his often seminal research as well as exhibiting the wide range of his geological interest. It contains 12 chapters and covers several differing aspects of micropalaeontology (pteropods, diatoms and especially foraminifera), Strontium Isotope Stratigraphy, Hampshire Basin stratigraphy and palaeogeography, as well as major contributions on English Channel sedimentology and the great faunal turnover affecting mammals at the Eocene-Oligocene boundary. A scientific appreciation of Dennis Curry, "the professional amateur", with recollections of former colleagues at University College, London (where he was Visiting Professor), together with an assessment of the valuable collections he established and donated to The Natural History Museum, are also included. Copiously illustrated, this book is a must for all geologists.

The Geology of Continental Margins by C.A. Burk,C.L. Drake Pdf

The continental margins of the world constitute the most impressive and largest physiographic feature of the earth's surface, and one of fundamentally great geological significance. Continental margins have been the subject of increasing attention in recent years, an interest focused by a body of new data that has provided new insights into their character. This interest was further stimulated by the realization that, in addition to the abundant living resources, continental margins contain petroleum and mineral resources that are accessible with existing technology. This realization, along with their basic geological importance, has provoked further research into the nature of continental margins throughout the world. A summary of these findings, as related to both recent and ancient continental margins, is the subject of this book. At various times in the past we had been approached individually to prepare a basic reference to continental margins; we then proposed to do such a volume jointly. However, the stimulus for the present volume eventually arose from a Penrose Conference arranged through the Geological Society of America. This conference was attended by specialists of numerous disciplines and from throughout the world, many of whom insisted that such a volume would be both timely and useful. Consequently, we agreed to undertake the task of assembling this book, with the objectives of making it available as soon and as inexpensively as possible.
