The Goblins and the Gravedigger by Kenneth L. Chumbley,Tonya Clarkson McCain Pdf

Charles Dickens wrote four Christmas ghost stories, of which the first was "The Goblins Who Stole a Sexton" (ch. 29 in The Pickwick Papers). A Christmas Carol, the second, largely followed its outline. In Goblins, a surly, malicious sexton (gravedigger) is kidnapped by goblins on Christmas Eve. They take him to their underground cavern and through various scenes shown him, redeem him from his evil ways.Utilizing character names from other Dickens' stories, Kenneth Chumbley and Tonya Clarkson McCain used the outline of the original Goblins to create a 10,000 word novella, The Goblins and a Gravedigger. The drama involves child abuse (a classic Dickens' theme) and is a darker story than Carol. In writing fantasy, any mythical character can be used (elves, dwarfs, goblins, etc.), but the story must be real and human. This is exactly what authors tried to do in their adaptation.

The Gravedigger’s Son: A Charley Davidson Novella by Darynda Jones Pdf

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Darynda Jones comes a new story in her Charley Davidson series… The job should have been easy. Get in. Assess the situation. Get out. But for veteran tracker Quentin Rutherford, things get sticky when the girl he’s loved since puberty shows up, conducting her own investigation into the strange occurrences of the small, New Mexico town. He knew it would be a risk coming back to the area, but he had no idea Amber Kowalski had become a bona fide PI, investigating things that go bump in the night. He shouldn’t be surprised, however. She can see through the dead as clearly as he can. The real question is, can she see through him? But is anything that’s worth it ever easy? To say that Amber is shocked to see her childhood crush would be the understatement of her fragile second life. One look at him tells her everything she needs to know. He’s changed. So drastically she barely recognizes him. He is savage now, a hardened—in all the right places—demon hunter, and she is simply the awkward, lovestruck girl he left behind. But she doesn’t have time to dwell on the past. A supernatural entity has set up shop, and it’s up to them to stop it before it kills again. While thousands of questions burn inside her, she has to put her concern over him, over what he’s become, aside for now. Because he’s about to learn one, undeniable fact: she’s changed, too. **Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.** Reviews for The Gravedigger's Son: “This was exciting, out of this world, along with the right amount of chemistry and steam to keep the story exciting.” - Mari Loves Books Blog “The Charley Davidson series continues to be one that is near and dear to my heart, so getting more books with these amazing characters brings me an immense amount of joy.” - Nerdy Chic “The Gravedigger's Son is a wonderful addition to the world of Charley Davidson. I enjoyed the tension, action, suspense, and rekindling of a romance.” - Reviews by Saph

GOBLIN TALES OF LANCASHIRE - 26 illustrated tales about the goblins, fairies, elves, pixies, and ghosts of Lancashire by Anon E. Mouse Pdf

Herein are 26 illustrated tales about the goblins, fairies, elves, pixies, and ghosts of Lancashire for children. As you can see this book is not only about goblins but rather about the many beings which inhabit the lands of the Fairy Kingdom. Herein you will find stories like: * The White Dobbie * The Skriker, or Shrieker * The Unbidden Guest * The Fairy's Spade * The King Of The Fairies * The Captured Fairies * The Pillion Lady * The Fairy Funeral * The Silver Token * The Rescue Of Moonbeam; plus many, many more. But are goblins really as bad as they’ve been made out to be? Over the years, we have been told to think of Goblins as the most undesirable members of the Fairy kingdom. Well, if all the stories we read are only about the bad, or evil, Goblins, then that is likely to sway our opinion. It reminds me of the old adage, “The victorious in battle, get to write the world’s history.” In times well past, it is easy to understand how the unlettered peasant could people desolate areas with beings of another world; either the bleak fells, the deep and gloomy gorges, the wild cloughs, the desolate moorland wastes; or the salt marshes where the breeze-bent and mysterious-looking trees waved their spectral boughs in the wind; the dark pools fringed with reeds, amid which the 'Peg-o'-Lantron' flickered and danced, and over which came the hollow cry of the bittern and the child-like plaint of the plover; and the dreary glens, dark lakes, and long stretches of sand of the north and west. To them the forest was a place of solemn, Rembrandt-esque gloom, where Druids erst heard victims groan, the lonely fir-crowned pikes, and the mist-shrouded mountains, would seem fitting homes for the dread shapes whose spite ended itself in the misfortunes and misery of humanity. Pregnant with mystery to such a mind would be the huge fells, with their shifting 'neetcaps' of cloud, the towering bluffs, the swampy moors, and trackless morasses, across which the setting sun cast floods of blood-red light; and irresistible would be the influence of such scenery upon the imagination of lonely traveler riding, or walking, between villages and towns at night, with a feeling that he was surrounded by the supernatural. So sit back with a steamy beverage and be prepared to be entertained for many-an-hour. 10% of the net sale will be donated to charities by the publisher. ============== KEYWORDS/TAGS: Goblins of Lancashire, fairy tales, folklore, myths, legends, children’s stories, childrens stories, bygone era, fairydom, ethereal, fairy land, classic stories, children’s bedtime stories, happy place, happiness, elf, elves, pixie, piskie, supernatural, Skriker, Unbidden, Guest, Fairy's Spade, King Of The Fairies, Mother And Child, Spectral Cat, Captured Fairies, Pillion Lady, Fairy Funeral, Chivalrous Devil, Enchanted Fisherman, Sands Of Cocker, Silver Token, Headless Woman, Rescue Of Moonbeam, sun, moon, White Dobbie, Little Man's Gift, Satan's Supper, Earthenware Goose, Phantom Of The Fell, Allhallow's Night, Christmas-Eve Vigil, Crier Of Claife, Demon Of The Oak, Black Cock, Invisible Burden

Were They Wise Men Or Kings? by Joseph J. Walsh Pdf

Christmas is a time of celebration, rich with ritual and detail. But more than just a season for angels and wrapping paper, Christmas has its own heritage which intersects in fascinating ways with human history and human beliefs, behaviors, and experiences. In this book of fifty Christmas questions, Joseph Walsh gives us the details behind Christmas traditions, such as Santa's origin and appearance, the story of Rudolph, holiday decorations and greenery, the nativity, Christmas tales, celebrations and rituals, gift-giving, and card-sending. He links contemporary practices and historical tradition, explaining why, for instance, we kiss under the mistletoe, and describing the time when Christmas was responsible for a truce in World War I. In this illustrated book, readers will find answers to questions they've often asked and some they've never thought about.

Theology, Horror and Fiction by Jonathan Greenaway Pdf

Longlisted for the 2022 International Gothic Association's Allan Lloyd Smith Prize Surpassing scholarly discourse surrounding the emergent secularism of the 19th century, Theology, Horror and Fiction argues that the Victorian Gothic is a genre fascinated with the immaterial. Through close readings of popular Gothic novels across the 19th century – Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, Dracula and The Picture of Dorian Gray, among others – Jonathan Greenaway demonstrates that to understand and read Gothic novels is to be drawn into the discourses of theology. Despite the differences in time, place and context that informed the writers of these stories, the Gothic novel is irreducibly fascinated with religious and theological ideas, and this angle has been often overlooked in broader scholarly investigations into the intersections between literature and religion. Combining historical theological awareness with interventions into contemporary theology, particularly around imaginative apologetics and theology and the arts, Jonathan Greenaway offers the beginnings of a modern theology of the Gothic.

Horror and Science Fiction Films IV by Donald C. Willis Pdf

This fourth title in a unique series that combines reference and analytical qualities in chronicling the horror and science fiction genres, Horror and Science Fiction Films IV brings the earlier three volumes in the series up to date, concentrating on the period from 1984-1994, as well as updating entries from the previous volumes and adding newly-discovered titles from 1900-1983. Entries in the main list include credits, cast, synopsis, and annotation. The introduction lists 1995 releases in the genres and 1996 releases through the summer, cites the more memorable films in the genres for both the current period and 1900-1984, and serves as an index to key titles in the main list, including long-lost titles such as the -obscure silent Were Tiger and the 1931 The Phantom. Willis includes many films from around the world that are not found in any other English-language film reference work. One appendix provides thumbnail descriptions of problem and peripheral films; another updates entries in the first three books with alternate titles; and a third appendix serves as an index to the approximately 7,000 films listed in the first three volumes in the series as well as in the current volume, thus bringing the total number of films covered in this series to roughly 11,000 titles.
