Animal Gospel by Andrew Linzey Pdf

Our treatment of animals is a gospel issue, Andrew Linzey contends, because those individuals and institutions that could have become the voice of God's most vulnerable creatures have instead justified cruelty and oppression. He offers an inspiring personal account of the gospel truths that have sustained his commitment to the cause of animals for more than twenty-five years.

A Faith Embracing All Creatures by Tripp York,Andy Alexis-Baker Pdf

What is the purpose of animals? Didn't God give humans dominion over other creatures? Didn't Jesus eat lamb? These are the kinds of questions that Christians who advocate compassion toward other animals regularly face. Yet Christians who have a faith-based commitment to care for other animals through what they eat, what they wear, and how they live with other creatures are often unsure how to address these biblically and theologically based challenges. In A Faith Embracing All Creatures, authors from various denominational, national, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds wrestle with the text, theology, and tradition to explain the roots of their desire to live peaceably with their nonhuman kin. Together, they show that there are no easy answers on "what the Bible says about animals." Instead, there are nuances and complexities, which even those asking these questions may be unaware of. Editors Andy Alexis-Baker and Tripp York have gathered a collection of essays that wrestle with these nuances and tensions in Scripture around nonhuman animals. In so doing, they expand the discussion of nonviolence, peacemaking, and reconciliation to include the oft-forgotten other members of God's good creation.

Animals of the Bible for Young Children by Marie-Helene Delval Pdf

The bible s stories abound with animals Jonah s whale, the ram sacrificed in Isaac s place, the serpent who tempted Eve. Some fill minor roles, while some are central to their stories. But God watched over all of them, delighted in their creation, and used them for great purposes and important lessons. All of them bear witness to God s wisdom and love. This colorful book, with text that is brief and simple enough for young readers, presents a survey of the menagerie of creatures that populates the pages of the bible. These diverse creatures offer an excellent way to help children discover God s world and its profound messages.

The Gospel According to Sam by William Miller Pdf

The Gospel According to Sam is a collection of thirty "animal stories for the soul," written by William Miller, a priest who's considered to be one of the best preachers in the Episcopal Church. The "Sam" in the title is Miller's Airedale, a lovable, "wounded healer" of a dog who survived a house fire that burned off his ears but couldn't extinguish his spirit. Sam becomes a vehicle for healing, humor, adventure, spiritual growth, and prayer for Miller and his parishioners. Sam isn't a typical warm-fuzzy, feel-good animal stories book, however. Miller writes with an earthy sense of humor and a Southern voice that has the reader laughing out loud--think of Molly Ivins, but with the voice of faith and prayer added in for good measure, and a low tolerance for sickly sweet theology. But then he slips in the zinger that cuts through the laughter and goes for the soul. His meditations aren't limited to Sam or even just dogs; birds, pigs, squirrels, rabbits, fish, bugs, and even yaks feature in his stories. An honest awareness and appreciation of the depth and breath of life are hallmarks of these real life adventures and thought provoking reflections.

Sheep Tales by Ken Davis Pdf

Meet Galya, one of the nicest sheep you could hope to know. Far too nice to be hanging out with a crusty, bitter bird like Edgar the raven. Yet, who but someone as kind and wise as Galya could see past Edgar's nastiness to his deepest need and care about him enough to tell him the Sheep Tales? In Sheep Tales, the animals have their say. Here is the Bible story as you and your children have never experienced it, seen through the eyes of Galya, Edgar, Arvid the platypus, Dandy the lion, Glubber the whale, and other furry, feathery, and creepy-crawly creatures made and loved by God. This devotional storybook will touch and delight your children--and you. With tenderness, humor, and creativity, author Ken Davis takes your imagination to the very heart of the gospel: God's love, displayed from the Creation to the Resurrection. It's big enough to weave the animals children love into God's awesome plan of redemption. And it's wonderful enough and strong enough to heal anything--even a broken and angry heart like Edgar's.

Jesus' Love for Animals by Antonia Katharina Tessnow Pdf

Jesus Christ did not only teach us love for our humanly brothers and sisters, but also for our loyal, loving and tenderhearted companions, the animals. The excerpts from the Gospel of the Holy Twelve, also known as the Gospel of the Nazarenes allow deep insights into the commands of our Savior, that is to confront our brothers and sisters, the animals, with love and treat them with full compassion. To everyone, who hopes to find orientation and to step safely through life: it is absolutely worth to align your being based on the teachings and commands of Jesus Christ, for he is and has always been the way. Furthermore, a short attachment gives some understanding about the philosophy of other religions and writers, who also clearly confess their love of animals. English-language version by Rev. Do Animals Believe In God? by Carl Solomon Sr. Pdf

Do Animals Believe In God? is a story of what some of the creatures of the earth might say if they could speak if asked, "Do you believe in God?" This book is filled with beautiful illustrations of Daniel's journey. Daniel decides to go on a journey to ask the creatures he meets whether they believe in God. Each of the creatures has their own special story to tell Daniel about why they believe in God. As Daniel ventures across different terrains""from his backyard, to a farm, through a forest, into a jungle, across a garden, along a river, and along the shore of the ocean""he meets creatures big and small that share their story with Daniel. It surprises Daniel to learn that each creature has its own unique story to tell about God, which reflects on their own way they experienced God, and they share their story in a way that is easily understood by Daniel. Some of the answers to Daniel's question will surprise you or humor you. As the story comes to a close, Daniel finds himself returning home after a day filled with exploration, adventure, and answers. His final question about God is to his mom and dad, who confirms what Daniel had learned on his journey: God is the Creator of all living creatures on the earth, under the earth, in the oceans and seas, and in the air. This easy-to-read and colorful book allows a child's imagination to wander and think what a creature would say if they could understand and respond to a question asked by a little boy named Daniel. Its message is timeless and eternal. Each page brings a different message than the last page read, so your child will, in anticipation, want to see what is next.

The Gospel of Kindness by Janet M. Davis Pdf

When we consider modern American animal advocacy, we often think of veganism, no-kill shelters, Internet campaigns against trophy hunting, or celebrities declaring that they would "rather go naked" than wear fur. Contemporary critics readily dismiss animal protectionism as a modern secular movement that privileges animals over people. Yet the movement's roots are deeply tied to the nation's history of religious revivalism and social reform. In The Gospel of Kindness, Janet M. Davis explores the broad cultural and social influence of the American animal welfare movement at home and overseas from the Second Great Awakening to the Second World War. Dedicated primarily to laboring animals at its inception in an animal-powered world, the movement eventually included virtually all areas of human and animal interaction. Embracing animals as brethren through biblical concepts of stewardship, a diverse coalition of temperance groups, teachers, Protestant missionaries, religious leaders, civil rights activists, policy makers, and anti-imperialists forged an expansive transnational "gospel of kindness," which defined animal mercy as a signature American value. Their interpretation of this "gospel" extended beyond the New Testament to preach kindness as a secular and spiritual truth. As a cultural product of antebellum revivalism, reform, and the rights revolution of the Civil War era, animal kindness became a barometer of free moral agency, higher civilization, and assimilation. Yet given the cultural, economic, racial, and ethnic diversity of the United States, its empire, and other countries of contact, standards of kindness and cruelty were culturally contingent and potentially controversial. Diverse constituents defended specific animal practices, such as cockfighting, bullfighting, songbird consumption, and kosher slaughter, as inviolate cultural traditions that reinforced their right to self-determination. Ultimately, American animal advocacy became a powerful humanitarian ideal, a touchstone of inclusion and national belonging at home and abroad that endures to this day.

If They Could Talk by Susan J. Bruce Pdf

In If They Could Talk, the authors ask the question: what if the animals of biblical times could talk? What would be the whale's take on swallowing Jonah? How would the scapegoat who carried away Israel's sins feel? Would the prodigal's fatted calf resent his role or be happily oblivious to it, or both? What did Balaam's donkey really think of his master? And how did the she-bears in the story of Elisha view God's provision of a feast of forty-two children? This is not a collection of sweet tales for young children. Not all of the animals (or people) in the biblical stories fared well. Many of the accounts are fun but others are serious and even confronting. One or two are bittersweet. All try to capture the essence of the biblical narrative from different animal perspectives. ""Sometimes quirky and amusing, sometimes sober and reflective, If They Could Talk is a collection of engaging stories that will help the reader take another perspective of some well-known Bible tales."" --Merideth Resce, President of Omega Writers and author of the Heart of Green Valley series ""What a fascinating idea! I've often encouraged students to approach the biblical text from the perspective of the different human characters, but never the animals. This book will open readers' eyes to engaging with the biblical text in a brand new light."" --Dr Aaron Chalmers, Lecturer in biblical studies and Head of Ministry and Theology, Tabor College Susan J Bruce is a qualified Veterinary Surgeon. She also holds a Master of Arts in Creative Writing and is well known for including an animal in almost every story and poem - even when she tries not to. Susan is the author of the e-book, Ruthless the Killer, and has had work published in several anthologies. Literati is a group of writers who live in and around Adelaide, South Australia. They have been meeting together for fifteen years. This present anthology was inspired by a plan for a book of short stories by Inklings C S Lewis and Charles Williams that unfortunately never materialized. The members of Literati thought they would take up the challenge.
