The Healer-prophet by C. Douglas Weaver Pdf

This study of William Marrion Branham's ministry reveals much about the healing methodology of deliverance evangelists. Branham's theology of healing highlights the widely accepted role of evangelists as mediators between God and the afflicted. The dynamic growth of Pentecostalism in the twentieth century is a major feature of the modern religious scene. Branham is acknowledged as a leader of the healing revival movement. Although little known outside of the Pentecostal movement, his work had tremendous influence on today's televangelists and the whole of Pentecostalism itself.

The Healer-Prophet in Afro-Christian Churches by Gerhardus C. Oosthuizen Pdf

Apart from the mainline, Pentecostal, and Zionist churches, there are different types of African Independent/Indigenous Churches (AIC). The greater part of the more than four thousand denominations and eight million adherents came into the AIC during the past three decades, mainly from the traditional African religious background. The important role of the diviner in the traditional society has been replaced by the prophet in the AIC; the prophet understands the worldview of his/her people, especially the cultural diseases. In some churches the office of prophet cum diviner is represented by one person. The AIC movement is the most dynamic church movement in many parts of Africa, especially Southern Africa. The consistent growth of these churches can largely be accounted for by the healing procedures they use, which ar highlighted in this study. Dr. Oosthuizen approaches healing from various angles, as sickness is not only determined by physical and psychological factors, but also by disturbed human relationships and socio-political and economic tensions.

Who are the men who follow the men who grub for the gold? Doctor Max Fifer and his assistant Ah Chung, having departed San Francisco for a new life in the wilds of British North America, having set up a medical practice and a drug dispensary in Yale in 1858, at the height of the Fraser River gold rush, even before colonial status is proclaimed. Fifer survives the treacherous Ned McGowan's attempt to instigate an American takeover and weathers the colony's lukewarm welcome for non-British subjects. Although an American citizen, a veteran of the Mexican war, Fifer is elected Mayor of his bustling community at the head of navigation on the Fraser River. However, his good fortune is short-lived. The popular healer cannot save himself from the depression of the economic slumps nor from the demented threats of a former patient. Told through the grieving eyes of Ah Chung, over the twenty-four hours while the town awaits the hanging of the murderer of their beloved Dr. Fifer, Prophet, Healer, Fool is a surprising glimpse into the private and professional lives and the politics of forgotten pioneers of the fledgling colony of British Columbia.

The Non-Western Jesus by M. E. Brinkman,Henry Jansen,Lucy Jansen Pdf

The centre of gravity of contemporary Christianity has shifted to the southern hemisphere where, with the exception of Latin America, almost all Christians are minorities in their home countries. Christians in Asia live amongst Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Shamanist or Taoist majorities and this context shapes the local Christian theology. The same is true in Africa where traditional religions and beliefs influence African Christians. Central to this change in both Africa and Asia is the creation of a new Jesus, one who accretes local beliefs and concerns and who, in that process, is transformed. 'The Non-Western Jesus' reveals how a new theology - with its own images and concepts - is coming into being. A wide range of embodiments of Jesus is examined: Jesus as 'Avatara' and 'Guru' in the Indian context; as 'Bodhisattva' in the Buddhist context; and Jesus within Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, African and Indonesian religious contexts.

Company of Prophets presents a wide variety of practices, philosophies, and techniques from African Americans who were born with or developed their psychic and spiritual awareness. Author Joyce Elaine Noll traveled thousands of miles and spent years collecting interviews and researching related documentation--the result is an extraordinary compilation of unforgettable vignettes exploring African American history, the preservation of a culture, codes of behavior concerning the use of spiritual and psychic abilities, and suggestions on enhancing extrasensory perception from members of African American families where psychic abilities have persisted through generations.
