The Heart: His Words + My Thoughts by Tanya Swygert Pdf

The scriptures remind us to diligently guard our hearts, and the Bible helps us see why it is so critical to do so. In Genesis 6:5, the scriptures record that God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the Earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. This wickedness continues today, and with all these maladies, it is no wonder the Word exhorts us to guard our hearts! In The Heart: His Words + My Thoughts, author and minister Tanya Swygert reflects on the important reminder in Proverbs to guard our hearts, and she offers sixteen thought-provoking devotionals about the heart. Sharing her heartfelt messages in a conversational, down-to-earth way, Tanya hopes fellow believers will be inspired to examine their own hearts according to Gods words. Whether it is protecting our hearts from evil and pain or opening up and softening our hearts to love, repair, and joy, God has provided in his Word a way for us to master the task. If our hearts are obstinate, pained, proud, fearful, rebellious, foolish, or blind, we can by Gods grace and mercy learn how to instead guard them and have hearts that are clean, fixed, and pure. We can also have the assurance that Christ will dwell in our hearts by faith, helping us know that the course of life we take will be pleasing in Gods sight.

My Thoughts Are Clouds by Georgia Heard Pdf

A poetry collection that both illustrates what mindfulness is and encourages young, growing minds to be present, from poet and educator Georgia Heard, with art by Isabel Roxas. Poets have long observed the world in a mindful way. They point out beauty we might have missed, draw our attention to our inner thoughts, and call us to see our society in new ways. But as daily life become more and more chaotic, children grow distracted. According to the CDC, 9.4% of children have ADHD and 7% have anxiety/depression. And these numbers continue to climb. As treatment doctors recommend healthy eating, physical activity, plenty of sleep, and mindfulness techniques. Georgia Heard is a poet and educator—and she has long had her own meditation practice. In My Thoughts Are Clouds, she uses poetry to demonstrate what mindfulness is and gives kids—and their parents and teachers—accessible ways to learn mindfulness tools.

Fire of Mercy, Heart of the Word by Erasmo Leiva-Merikakis Pdf

To the unstudied eye, St. Matthew's Gospel can seem a terse narrative, almost a historical document and not the tremendously spiritual (and doctrinal) storehouse that it is. In his fourth and final volume of meditations on Matthew (chapters 26–28), Father Simeon, formerly Erasmo Leiva-Merikakis, continues to show Matthew's prose to be not so much terse as economical—astoundingly so given its depth. The lay reader can derive great profit from reading this book. Each short meditation comments on a verse or two, pointing to some facet of the text not immediately apparent, but rich with meaning. Father Simeon's work is scholarly but eminently approachable by the lay reader. The tone is very much of "taste and see how good the Lord is" and an invitation of "friend, come up higher!" The goal of the book is to help the reader experience the heat of the divine Heart and the light of the divine Word. The author addresses both the objective and subjective levels of the Word of God—both what it is in itself and what impact it ought to have in our lives. Father Simeon comments on the Greek text, demonstrating nuances in the text that defy translation. He uses numerous quotes from the Fathers and the Liturgy of the Church to demonstrate the way the Tradition has lived and read the Word of God. His theological reflection vivifies doctrine by seeking its roots in the words and actions of Jesus. He shows that ultimately the text of the Gospel serves only one purpose: to make possible a living encounter with the person of Jesus Christ, an encounter that is wholly life transforming. Every effort, therefore, has been made throughout the commentary to show how the presence of Christ in the world has changed the very nature of both history and human experience.
