The Heart-Soul Axis in the Jesus Prayer and the Integral Yoga Sadhana by Marta Rubinart Rufach Pdf

The Jesus Prayer is a form of prayer that for centuries has been preserved and practiced by the Hesychasm, the eremitic tradition that is the direct inheritor of the Desert Fathers of early Christianity. Such prayer is deeply similar to the Integral Yoga spiritual practice or sadhana. Both traditions have a comparable understanding of the human being and both bestow a special role to the heart as the place for integration and purification of the psyche as well as of gnosis and union with the Divine. This dissertation proposes the term heart-soul axis to study the structural, functional, and phenomenological aspects of the heart. The main methodological tools are hermeneutics and the geometrical model or topological invariant of Panikkar to stablish homeomorphic equivalences enabling a valid integration of both traditions. In addition, the dissertation offers an autoethnographical narrative in which the heuristic process leading to a creative visual synthesis is disclosed.

Self Knowledge by Swami Sivananda Pdf

In this age of scepticism and materialism few people care to know their real Self, which is Divine and immortal. But the knowledge of the true Self has always been the principal theme of the philosophy and religion of Vedanta. Even in its most ancient writings, the Upanishads, which form portions of the Vedic Scriptures, we find how earnestly Self knowledge or Atma jnana was sought after and extolled.

Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda Pdf

The autobiography of Paramahansa Yogananda (1893 - 1952) details his search for a guru, during which he encountered many spiritual leaders and world-renowned scientists. When it was published in 1946 it was the first introduction of many westerners to yoga and meditation. The famous opera singer Amelita Galli-Curci said about the book: "Amazing, true stories of saints and masters of India, blended with priceless superphysical information-much needed to balance the Western material efficiency with Eastern spiritual efficiency-come from the vigorous pen of Paramhansa Yogananda, whose teachings my husband and myself have had the pleasure of studying for twenty years."

The Essential Aurobindo by Sri Aurobindo Pdf

Who wrote the Gospel of John? The author identifies himself only as "the disciple whom Jesus loved," and Christian tradition tells us that this disciple was the apostle John. However, during the past century, scholars have increasingly come to doubt that attribution. In 1902, Rudolf Steiner wrote that the author of the Gospel of John was in fact Lazarus. Steiner's position stemmed from his insight that Lazarus's encounter with death involved far more than people realized--an initiation into higher spiritual realities that uniquely qualified him to write this gospel. Edward Smith takes up this argument and shows that subsequent research has tended to favor Lazarus for reasons grounded in John's Gospel itself. More important, Smith shows that subsequent discoveries at Nag Hammadi and Mar Saba corroborate Steiner's reasoning about the nature of the raising of Lazarus, pointing to Lazarus as "the rich young ruler" of Mark's Gospel.

Yoga Meditation by Gregor Maehle Pdf

This book will not only give a precise step-by-step description of the meditation technique at the heart of yoga but also put it into context with all other yogic techniques and how they contribute to the breakthrough to spiritual freedom. Yogic meditation derives its power from the fact that it systematically suspends the entire processing capacity of the subconscious mind and diverts it towards meditation. The processing power of the subconscious mind is a multiple of that of the conscious mind. Simply watching breath or watching awareness involves only your conscious mind. For quick and effective concentration the entire power of the subconscious mind has to be harnessed. This is the secret of yogic meditation. You will also find information on the importance of Kundalini as support for meditation and the factors that make it rise, such as chakra and Sushumna visualization, mantra and breath. The text then explains how the chakras represent evolutionary stages of brain and mind development. Chakra meditation, if done in a sophisticated, high-powered way, will propel the evolution of the brain and mind of the practitioner and the awakening of higher intelligence.

Yoga by Mircea Eliade Pdf

In this landmark book the renowned scholar of religion Mircea Eliade lays the groundwork for a Western understanding of Yoga, exploring how its guiding principle, that of freedom, involves remaining in the world without letting oneself be exhausted by such "conditionings" as time and history. Drawing on years of study and experience in India, Eliade provides a comprehensive survey of Yoga in theory and practice from its earliest foreshadowings in the Vedas through the twentieth century. The subjects discussed include Patañjali, author of the Yoga-sutras; yogic techniques, such as concentration "on a Single Point," postures, and respiratory discipline; and Yoga in relation to Brahmanism, Buddhism, Tantrism, Oriental alchemy, mystical erotism, and shamanism.

Prayer of the Heart by Carol Ruth Knox Pdf

"What astonishing work and far ahead of its time, even though it is based on an ancient prayer practice..." Deborah Heartwood, MA, Sr. Prayer Chaplin, Unity Churches Unity Reverend Carol Ruth Knox shared her encounters with the Divine and the lessons she learned from them. Her messages were an anomaly for New Thought ministers. Instead of using the Divine to manifest health, houses, or relationships, she taught that God is everywhere - in every situation, even the most difficult ones. Sometimes life is hard. "But you are never alone," Carol Ruth would say, "God is here in this hard time, too! I'm not here to make your life easier," she cautioned, "I'm here to help you grow deeper." In this Book, Prayer of the Heart, Rev. Knox explains how she survived some of the darkest times of her life - her 'Dark Night of the Soul'. She shares, "I felt barren and bitter and experienced an overwhelming feeling of bondage. Do you? Are you bored and bicker a lot? Do you feel as if you are inside a gray cave and you don't know how to get out? Do you feel your relationships have not treated you right, your living situations don't work, and your general way of being is like a low-grade headache? Are you married to the 'perfect person', have a wonderful job, sleep for ten yours but you are not at all renewed and have no zest? Right. I tried to think correctly and did 15 different workshops, and even experienced spiritual 'openings' only to have them close down again and I returned to the same 'drone of consciousness' and did not'break out of the cave' Then I began the Prayer of the Heart work and entered a whole new level of spirituality."

Kriya Yoga Unlocked by Triloki Nath Pdf

This is a Kriya Yoga book intended to be read and practised by everyone, with/without initiation. Every word uttered by a Yogi has a special meaning that is totally unintelligible to even the highly intellectual people. This book is written in such a way that everyone can follow it up while trading the path of Kriya. People think that they are very intelligent, but if they try to understand very seriously, they realize perfectly that nothing is happening according to their intellect. Only those whose breath is not blowing in the left or right nostril are intelligent in this world. When breathing is faster, then in one day and one night respiration can flow up to 113,680 times. Normally during the same time, the figure is 21,600 times. During a day and night, if respiration is faster than usual, the breath can flow in and out 113,680 times. Normally, in the course of a day and night, there are 21,600 breaths. This figure is reduced by Kriya practice to 2,000 times. So, breathing 1,000 times in the day and 1,000 times in the night, in a normal course, provides greater Tranquility to a Yogi. One of his breaths takes about 44 seconds. Such a Yogi is matured in Kriya practice. Thoughts are inseparably related to breathing. So, when the number of breaths is reduced, thoughts are reduced proportionately. Eventually, with the tranquilization of breath, thoughts are dissolved. Thereby, the seeker can attain the After-effect-poise of Kriya, or eternal Tranquility, which is Amrita, nectar proper.

Jnana Sankalini Tantra by Prajñānānanda (Paramahaṃsa) Pdf

India is a civilisation of many images a culture of many visual feasts a tradition where th visible and the palpable are as important as the oral and the occurrent, where our highest truths are embodied in our kathas and gathas our songs and stories, where our temples are not only places of worship but equally a gallery of beautiful forms and figures where myth is as important as doctrine, where ancient memories are full of cherished narratives where mythic beings are real in many different ways and we enrich our lives by festivals which celebrate events from the lives of our mythic gods and goddesses and where knowledge is gained as much from itinerant performers as it is from learned discourses and where when the wind blows thorugh the Pipal tree is as if we hear the hymns of the Vedas.

Searching for Vedic India by Devamrita Swami Pdf

Deep in lost history, did high civilizations and advanced knowledge thrive? The ancient Vedic literatures of India describe a worldwide civilization that flourished at a time when modern historians insist that humans like us existed simply as hunter-gatherers. This Vedic civilization, centered in India, employed technologies based on a scientific understanding of the physical elements and forces we know today, as well as more subtle conscious elements. Devamrita Swami, who has spent a lifetime in his own search for Vedic India, takes us on a journey of intellectual discovery through the history of the remarkable Vedic civilization and its knowledge, locked in the ancient literatures of India. His wit and wisdom combine to make our search for Vedic India not only illuminating but entertaining. He tells us not only the truths of Vedic India, but how they are again coming to be. Searching for Vedic India thus takes us not only into the past, but into the future.
