The Higher Life Doctrine of Sanctification by Henry A. Boardman Pdf
Excerpt from The "Higher Life" Doctrine of Sanctification: Tried by the Word of God God - the more so, as the latest expositions oi the system with which we have been favored disclose that insidious tendency toward a widen ing departure from the faith once delivered t( the saints, which is the inborn bias of all serious error. It was from no seeking of my own that this service was devolved upon me. So far from it, I have conscientiously sought to escape from it, in the face of manifold appeals urgently press ed, for the past three years: for it seemed a very ungracious office, to become the censor of a com pany of devout people who are honestly striving to bring their fellow-christians up to a higher standard of piety. But Providence at length interposed in a manner which seemed to annul all personal considerations, and to shut me up to the performance of a very unwelcome duty. No alternative was left me, but to attempt to bring the theology of this active and growing school, to the test of the law and the testimony. Of the manner in which the examination has been conducted, it is for others to judge. Two features of this inquiry require a word of notice. No Quick Fix by Andrew David Naselli Pdf
Every Christian struggles with sin and wants to be victorious in the fight. There is no quick fix. Every Christian struggles with sin and wants to be victorious in the fight. Higher life theology -- also known as Keswick theology -- offers a quick fix for this struggle. It teaches that there are two categories of Christians: those who are merely saved and those who have really surrendered to Christ -- or those who have Jesus as their Savior alone and those who have him as their Master as well. If Christians can simply "let go and let God" they can be free of struggling with sin and brought to that higher level of spiritual life. What could be wrong with that? A lot, it turns out. In No Quick Fix, a shorter and more accessible version of his book Let Go and Let God?, Andy Naselli critiques higher life theology from a biblical perspective. He shows that it leads not to freedom, but to frustration, because it promises something it has no power to deliver. Along the way, he tells the story of where higher life theology came from, describes its characteristics, and compares it to what the Bible really says about how we overcome sin and become more like Christ. - Publisher.

Five Views on Sanctification by Melvin E. Dieter,Anthony A. Hoekema,Stanley M. Horton,J. Robertson McQuilkin,John F. Walvoord Pdf
Christians generally recognize the need to live a holy, or sanctified, life. But they differ on what sanctification is and how it is achieved. How does one achieve sanctification in this life? How much success in sanctification is possible? Is a crisis experience following one's conversion normal--or necessary? If so, what kind of experience, and how is it verified? Five Views on Sanctification--part of the Counterpoints series--brings together in one easy-to-understand volume five major Protestant views on sanctification: Wesleyan View – represented by Melvin E. Dieter Reformed View – represented by Anthony A. Hoekema Pentecostal View – represented by Stanley M. Horton Keswick View – represented by J. Robertson McQuilkin Augustinian-Dispensationalism View – represented by John F. Walvoord Writing from a solid evangelical stance, each author describes and defends his own understanding of the doctrine sanctification and then responds to the views of the other authors. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

"The blessings of Sanctification and Justification walk hand in hand; and never were, never will be, never can be parted. No more than the delicious scent can be separated from the beautiful bloom of the rose or carnation: let the flower be expanded, and the fragrance transpires. Try if you can separate gravity from the stone or heat from the fire. If these bodies and their essential properties, if these causes and their necessary effects, are indissolubly connected, so are our justification and our sanctification"
