The Captive Prince by A. C. Fox Pdf

Save the land, or follow his heart? Time has run out for Lord Domlen. The Fortress of Rain has been cursed by the enemy Boa Visk, his people trapped as phantoms within its walls, and the rain ever falling across his lands. If he does not break the curse soon, the trapped spirits will become revenir, ghosts that feed upon the life force of the living. He needs a miracle. And he gets one. He learns of a ritual that can break the curse and free his people. But nothing comes without a price, and the price is one Lord Domlen cannot bring himself to pay: the ritual demands blood—royal blood. Desperate, he abducts Prince Falken of Teirlan to be his blood sacrifice on the night of the red moon and forces all gentle emotion far, far away. He must save his people, even at the cost of an innocent life. But as the time of the ritual draws near, how will he find the strength to kill an innocent man? Especially one who reignites all the emotions he believed he'd buried so deeply away? Prince Falken, sorcerer from Teirlan, needs his magic to escape the Fortress of Rain, but the shackles on his wrists have cut him off from his power. When he discovers the servants around him are actually spirits, he understands the stronghold is bound by dark forces—a curse that somehow revolves around his grim, noble captor. There is dark magic here, but how can he help the strong, enigmatic Domlen while he's trapped, his powers bound? There is greater magic than that of the curse, and Falken has resources beyond Domlen's ken. But when the ritual goes horribly wrong, how will Falken make his enemy trust him? And how will he save the man he's coming to love? Reader note: contains gay fantasy romance, enemies to lovers, male male love, and a happily ever after

A Bridge of Doom by Kurt Paul Hotelling Pdf

THREE PATHS CONVERGE PRELUDE: THE HOSTAGE PRINCE-The bonds are tight, his sword broken, the possibility of rescue hopeless; heir to the throne of the western kingdom, Prince Kajor will be sacrificed on the reptilian Grems' primitive altar of blood and revenge. And yet, he fears neither his enemies, nor the endless torture, nor death, but the eventual ruin of his people under their hateful claws. Doubtful of her charged task, a young woman, Royal Messenger under guidance from the only Master Enchanter undertakes an impossible mission, seeking help from a mythical and almost forgotten demigod. AGENTS OF THE DARK ONE-A final heartbeat, demons at the door, an appeal for help, a chance bridge across the void of the Unknown. Violations of metaphysical law during the rescue of Prince Kajor have brought the inescapable wrath and cold justice of Spectres; a singular, violent death stalks Royal Messenger Marie. Back home, bereft of any trace of his adventure, Paul is heartbroken amidst questions about his own sanity. Rothson can only hope his final expenditure of Power will reach demigod and enchanter before disaster befalls and all that they have achieved is overturned. ENCHANTER'S LOT-A faint breath of shadow whispers past Maximillian amidst his private ritual of black magic, bidding him find someone; Paul helps Marie adjust to existence in his complicated world, unaware of the dark forces seeking them out; Enchanter Gaiwan's manhunt for a renegade sorcerer turns sour, bringing upon him the wrath of dragons, and a nearly impossible errand. Relentlessly, all are drawn to meet across A BRIDGE OF DOOM. This is the first of a series of classical fantasy that combines otherworld elements with this everyday world in a believable manner. The fundamentals of Magic and Power, intrinsic to the story, both psychic and mystic, are described and explained in detail (as opposed to an assumptive glossing over.) The editors at DAW Books cited this book and its sequel "An enjoyable epic. The characters, villains, and creatures are nicely done." This first book begins with Prelude: The Hostage Prince. The heir to the throne of the western lands awakens from a nightmare to find himself still bound and tied to a rough hewn stake, prisoner of his enemies, the Grems, a race of walking, yet primitive, reptilians, "lizards," that have warred unceasingly with the unwanted settlers of their territory. Staunching refusing to negotiate peace of co-existence, the Grems fight a losing battle. In a last, desperate effort, the lizards capture Prince Kajor and hold him hostage far from any aid or rescue, then prepare to perform a murderous blood sacrifice of the Prince on the battlefield before their enemies. Meanwhile, Marie, a royal messenger, has been charged by Master Enchanter Rothson to carry a plea for help through a mystic gateway to a nearly forgotten demigod. Though herself doubtful, especially of mages and enchanters, Marie remains loyal to her future king. Armed with only her wits, her steed, she is given a silver talisman that is to be her protector and key to the gateway. The fact of this being a medieval world other than ancient Earth is revealed when mention is made of the first and second sunrises. Riding at the stroke of first dawn and, under protection of an enchantment cast by her master, Marie avoids capture by Grems along the way and breaches the mystic gateway. Arriving on the far side-a place the reader will recognize as present-day Earth, she is to a college student named Paul asleep in his dormitory room. Unbeknownst to any of them, mysterious entities, metaphysical guardians from her home world, have followed her across the mystic bridge, seeking to restore balance of power, either by escorting her back home alone and reversing events, or by destroying her immediately. The story continues in the second part titled: Agents of the Dark One and the main third part, Enchanter's Lot.

Hostage by Robert Crais Pdf

The bestselling author of Demolition Angel and L.A. Requiem returns with his most intense and intricate thriller yet. As the Los Angeles Times said, Robert Crais is “a crime writer operating at the top of his game.” His complex heroes and heroines, his mastery of noir atmosphere, and his brilliant, taut plots have catapulted him into the front rank of a new breed of thriller writers. Hostage proves his earlier success was no fluke. It’s an unstoppable read. An ex-con with delusions of grandeur and his tagalong brother unwittingly team up with a psychopath one wrong word away from meltdown. When their late afternoon joyride turns into a random act of violence, they take a family hostage in the affluent bedroom community of Bristo Camino. Enter Chief of Police Jeff Talley, a stressed-out former LAPD SWAT negotiator who is hiding from his past. Plunged back into the high-pressure world that he desperately wants to forget, Talley soon learns that his nightmare has only begun. The hostages are not who they seem, and the home contains secrets that even L.A.’s most lethal and volatile crime lord, Sonny Benza, fears. As Talley tries to hold himself together and save the people inside, the full weight of Benza’s wrath descends on him, putting the police chief and his own family at risk. Soon, all involved are held hostage by the exigencies of fate and the only one capable of diffusing the standoff is the least stable of them all. Hostage is a blistering stand-alone thriller with superb characters in crisis, multistranded plotting, and pitch-perfect Southern California sensibility.

Letter to a Hostage by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Pdf

Letter to a Hostage is a book by the author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Saint-Exupéry initially wrote this piece as a preface for his best friend, Léon Werth’s novel: Trente-trois jours (Thirty Three Days). Werth had been forced to take refuge in the Jura region of France during the autumn of 1940 because of his Jewish origins. His book, however, could not be published, and so the author significantly revised his preface, removing any direct references to his friend and making him anonymous within the text and a symbol for France as the hostage of the occupying forces. This version was published independently in June 1943. The work is comprised of six short chapters which reflect upon recent aspects of the author’s life (travelling to Portugal, impressions of the Sahara, living in the USA...), and combines references to his friendship with Werth and to his love for his country.

The Winter Prince by Elizabeth Wein Pdf

Brave Medraut is a fitting heir to the throne—but he can never be king—in this fantasy retelling of the legend of Mordred from the author of Code Name Verity. Medraut is the eldest son of High King Artos, and would-be heir to the British throne—if not for an unfortunate circumstance of birth. Instead, his weak and unskilled half-brother, Lleu, is chosen as successor. Medraut cannot bear the thought of being ruled by the boy who has taken what he believes is rightfully his. Consumed by jealousy, he turns to Morgause, the high king’s treacherous sister, who exploits Medraut’s shame and plots to take over the throne. But when Medraut discovers Lleu’s inner strength and goodness, he finds his battle is not just with the kingdom, but with the demons inside himself. Now he must choose where his allegiances truly lie. Perfect for readers of Robin McKinley and Jane Yolen, The Winter Prince is an “engrossing” novel that “fantasy lovers and devotees of Arthurian legends will enjoy,” from an author who has won honors ranging from the Carnegie Medal to the Edgar Award (Booklist).
