Despite the entrenched tradition of the Jerusalem temple mount¿s identification, ancient descriptions of it do not correspond with the 36-acre area we see today. Instead, they suggest a temple site squarely in the City of David, on Mount Zion¿the southeastern hill¿600 feet south of the presently held site.
