The Journey Continues: from Groaning to Dancing by Richard Jones Pdf

It is a pure pleasure for me to be writing again. Fourteen years of being involved in teaching and school administration have claimed most of my hours and focus. My desire to write turned into thoughts of “someday...” or “next year I’m gonna...”. With departure from the business of the classroom, I once again have the freedom to commit myself to putting pen to paper (or I should say, “fingers to keyboard”). William Faulkner wrote, “It is the writer’s privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart.” That is my desire, and I appreciate your allowing me to be a small part of the “heart-lifting” process in your life. Since my last project, I have had several requests to write a sequel, a second prayer devotional. A discussion with my late father ended with a commitment to do so. It is with pleasure that I honor that commitment. Much of what I write is never seen by anyone but the Lord and me, but written words can live on as long as there are readers to see them. Michael Straczynski called it “immortality by proxy.”

Journey of Song by Clare A. Ignatowski Pdf

During the long dry season, Tupuri men and women in northern Cameroon gather in gurna camps outside their villages to learn the songs that will be performed at widely attended celebrations to honor the year's dead. The gurna provides a space for them to join together in solidarity to care for their cattle, fatten their bodies, and share local stories. But why does the gurna remain meaningful in the modern nation-state of Cameroon? In Journey of Song, Clare A. Ignatowski explores the vitality of gurna ritual in the context of village life and urban neighborhoods. She shows how Tupuri songs borrow from political discourse on democracy in Cameroon and make light of human foibles, publicize scandals, promote the prestige of dancers, and provide an arena for powerful social commentary on the challenges of modern life. In the context of broad social change in Africa, Ignatowski explores the creative and communal process by which local livelihoods and identities are validated in dance and song.

The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes Pdf

BOOKER PRIZE WINNER • NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A novel that follows a middle-aged man as he contends with a past he never much thought about—until his closest childhood friends return with a vengeance: one of them from the grave, another maddeningly present. A novel so compelling that it begs to be read in a single setting, The Sense of an Ending has the psychological and emotional depth and sophistication of Henry James at his best, and is a stunning achievement in Julian Barnes's oeuvre. Tony Webster thought he left his past behind as he built a life for himself, and his career has provided him with a secure retirement and an amicable relationship with his ex-wife and daughter, who now has a family of her own. But when he is presented with a mysterious legacy, he is forced to revise his estimation of his own nature and place in the world.

Our Time to Dance, A Mother's Journey to Joy by Eva Doherty Gremmert Pdf

Eva Doherty Gremmert has written a loving, poignant book about the deep joys and profound challenges of raising a son with complex physical and mental disabilities. She recounts with great suspense her struggles with skeptical doctors, stubborn educators and her own raw emotions as she strives to give her son the chance to live his best possible life. Our Time To Dance is a gentle, readable and inspiring story of faith, perseverance and fierce love." DeAnna Murphy, CEO of People Acuity, Author, Keynote Speaker, Top 100 Global Coaching Leader "Eva Doherty Gremmert's emotional and poignant story about her son's journey with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) was written from her heart and soul. Caring for a loved one with LGS, and recalling the countless seizures and hospital visits, is not an easy thing to do. But Eva's passion for her son is apparent through her writing. This book, Our Time To Dance, is highly recommended for any parent or caregiver who feels alone in their LGS journey." Christina SanInocencio, Executive Director LGS Foundation (Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome) "A triumphant memoir! With unflinching candor and poignant acumen Gremmert potently captures and conveys the joy and sorrow of mothering a child with a disability. The achievement of the memoir is its refusal to sentimentalize the mother's very real struggles in raising her son, while simultaneously challenging normative assumptions that position disability as a burden. Our Time to Dance is not only a journey to joy but a maternal rendering of the hero's quest. A book for all mothers to read and rejoice in!" Long Life by Mary Oliver Pdf

Poets must read and study, but also they must learn to tilt and whisper, shout, or dance, each in his or her own way, or we might just as well copy the old books. But, no, that would never do, for always the new self swimming around in the old world feels itself uniquely verbal. And that is just the point: how the world, moist and bountiful, calls to each of us to make a new and serious response. That's the big question, the one the world throws at you every morning. 'Here you are, alive. Would you like to make a comment?' This book is my comment.--from the Foreword.

She Just Wanted to Dance Again by Cheryl Jenkins Pdf

When becoming a parent's caregiver, who can't be qualified! Whether through consanguinity or because of compassion for another human being, morally it's the right thing to do. She Just Wanted to Dance Again provides a look into the author's resolve, with a touch of humor, to become her mother's caregiver. Recommendations, many of which have been praised by the medical professionals providing support and care, are provided for others contemplating this journey. It's important to recognize the need to learn from each other and pass on a legacy of the knowledge, skills, and compassion to our children so that when it is their turn to step up to the plate and take care of older generations, they will have a better idea where to start. There's a saying in poker, "Scared money doesn't win." This book demonstrates how the author applied that concept to confront adversities that had to be overcome when faced with the reality of parenting a parent. At the end of the day, if one aspires to this challenge, it will also become a passage of healing and everyone will become a better person as a result of whatever level of change transpires.
