The Art of Happy Moving by Ali Wenzke Pdf

A comprehensive, upbeat guide to help you survive the moving process from start to finish, filled with fresh strategies and checklists for timing and supplies, choosing which items to toss and which to keep, determining the best place to live, saying farewell and looking forward to hello. Moving is a major life change—time consuming, expensive, often overwhelming, and sometimes scary. But it doesn’t have to be! Instead of looking at it as a burdensome chore, consider it a new adventure. Ali Wenzke and her husband moved ten times in eleven years, living in seven states across the U.S. She created her popular blog, The Art of Happy Moving, to help others build a happier life before, during, and after a move. Infused with her infectious optimistic spirit, The Art of Happy Moving builds on her blog, offering step-by-step guidance, much-needed comfort, practical information, and welcome advice on every step of the process, including: How to stage your home for prospective buyers How to choose your next neighborhood How to discard your belongings and organize your packing How to say goodbye to your friends How to make the transition easier for your kids How to decorate your new home How to build a new community And so much more. Ali shares invaluable personal anecdotes from her many moves, and packs each chapter with a wealth of information and ingenious tips (Did you know that if you have an extra-large welcome mat at the entrance of your home, it’s more likely to sell?). Ali also includes checklists for packing and staging, and agendas for the big moving day. Whether you’re a relocating professional, newly married, a family with kids and pets, or a retiree looking to downsize, The Art of Happy Moving will help you discover ways to help make your transition an easier one—and be even happier than you were before.

Are the Kids All Right? by B. J. Epstein Pdf

"The first extensive survey of English-language children's literature that features lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or otherwise queer characters. Written in an accessible style, it uses queer theory, literary studies, and sociology to explore how LGBTQ characters are portrayed and what this says about contemporary society. Epstein passionately demonstrates that the information children get from literature matters, and that supposedly difficult or taboo topics can be communicated in entertaining and informative ways"--P. The Kids Are All Right by Diana Welch,Liz Welch,Amanda Welch,Dan Welch Pdf

A blisteringly funny, heart-scorching tale of remarkable kids shattered by tragedy and finally brought back together by love."—People Somehow, between their father’s mysterious death, their glamorous soap-opera-star mother’s cancer diagnosis, and a phalanx of lawyers intent on bankruptcy proceedings, the four Welch siblings managed to handle each new heartbreaking misfortune together. All that changed with the death of their mother. While nineteen-year-old Amanda was legally on her own, the three younger siblings–Liz, sixteen; Dan, fourteen; and Diana, eight–were each dispatched to a different set of family friends. Quick-witted and sharp-tongued, Amanda headed for college in New York City and immersed herself in an ’80s world of alternative music and drugs. Liz, living with the couple for whom she babysat, followed in Amanda’s footsteps until high school graduation when she took a job in Norway as a nanny. Mischievous, rebellious Dan, bounced from guardian to boarding school and back again, getting deeper into trouble and drugs. And Diana, the red-haired baby of the family, was given a new life and identity and told to forget her past. But Diana’s siblings refused to forget her--or let her go. Told in the alternating voices of the four siblings, their poignant, harrowing story of unbreakable bonds unfolds with ferocious emotion. Despite the Welch children’s wrenching loss and subsequent separation, they retained the resilience and humor that both their mother and father endowed them with--growing up as lost souls, taking disastrous turns along the way, but eventually coming out right side up. The kids are not only all right; they’re back together.

The Kids Will Be Fine by Daisy Waugh Pdf

A bracing, hilarious manifesto for motherhood as it ought to be: spontaneous, loving, and just a little bit selfish Pre-chewing toddler food. Flash cards for two-year-olds. Endless hours of school gatherings to sit through in smiling silence. How did motherhood—which even under the best circumstances comes with a million small costs and compromises—become a venue for female martyrdom, verging on a sort of socially approved mass masochism? How did the great natural force of maternal love get channeled into a simpering, slavish adherence to an inflexible social norm, a repressive sentimentality festooned with hideous pastel baby accessories? How did the bar to good motherhood get set so high that it's impossible for modern mothers not to feel like they're failing? It doesn't have to be this way—and Daisy Waugh is here to tell us how to opt out of the masochism cycle. Part feminist manifesto, part hilarious rant, The Kids Will Be Fine asks modern mothers to stop confusing love with subjugation. This is a book for moms everywhere who are fed up with the constant stream of unsolicited, impractical, guilt-inducing advice directed their way; for moms who have always secretly suspected that children would turn out okay even without handmade organic snacks or protective toddler headgear. With biting wit and lancing observations, Waugh gives women permission to slough off the judgments, order in some pizza, and remember that motherhood is also about the mother.

Fishwives by Sally Bellerose Pdf

Eighty-nine-year-old Regina and ninety-year-old Jackie met in 1955, an era when women were rounded up and jailed simply for dancing together or dressing like a man. On a cold winter day they manage to get themselves out of the house with the help of TJ and Ramon, two young men from their working-class neighborhood in Western Massachusetts. They tie their long-dead Christmas tree to the top of their car and, using a screwdriver in place of a broken gearshift, slowly make the drive to the dump. This is also the day when everything changes. During the course of their adventure, memories are triggered. Their history as a passionate and devoted, but troubled couple at the intersection of historic cultural and political change unfolds via scenes from the past—including their first meeting during a police raid on a bar and Regina's epiphany that she could truly love another woman. In the early years, they often live apart as they flee landlords who discover their secret. As their journey leads them to seek jobs and a sustainable life, they are sometimes separated—but always find their way back to each other. Combining the pathos and social significance of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café and the humor of The Golden with a cast of diverse characters worthy of the musical Rent, Fishwives chronicles a lifetime through the eyes of two old women behaving badly.

The Milky Galaxy by Barbara G Louise Pdf

The Milky (nurturing) Galaxy is a combination of two related novellas set in the same small, unregarded corner of the multiverse. In the first novella, in the 24th century, the Earth is ruined. Bio-diversity is gone. What is left is foul air, poisoned soil, filthy water, and a greatly reduced population of Humans struggling to survive in the dystopian environment. The wondrous beauty of a living globe more than four billion years old perfectly suited to support millions of diverse species is no more. Only the Rich live comfortably in geodesic domes five miles high which selfishly preserve some of the former glorious wonder, the clean air, water, and healthy food of the now collapsing Earthly biosphere. In the fragmented slums between the Domes, descendents of the former Working Class — whose livelihoods were usurped by robots mid-21st century — cling to a precarious secret existence in old buildings sealed against the raw, polluted, unfiltered air and water of ruined Earth. Living in peace with the ultra-privileged Dome dwellers, except as slaves whose lives would be worth nothing, is clearly impossible. Large, green, ameboid Aliens come to Earth and take away members of the former Working Class to settle them on healthy planets elsewhere in the Galaxy. The Aliens accidently leave an Alien child behind. Zee (the ameboid Aliens have only one gender) struggles to survive outside the Domes and find a way to Reproduce, to save hir memories for the future of hir species. In the second novella, a wastrel young man belonging to a Rich Dome family is sent against his will by his authoritarian father out into space to find a suitable, un-ruined planet where the Rich Families of Earth can transfer their “civilization:” their food animals, their enslaved women, and their capitalist economy. Past the worm-hole in the alpha Centauri star-system, the young man finds a thriving Anarkhist society of Human beings — living with green, ameboid aliens and others — inhabiting a star system with three suns. To his surprise, he falls in love with a free-Human female; and yet he still intends to conquer the planet and bring to it the “blessings” of Capitalism, because it will make him a Rich Earthman. Disaster ensues.
